I don't actually know of any for certain, but the "Texas Toast", "Debris Field", and "Ravine Remnants" Daytonas come to mind as likely candidates...

Actually those names on the doors along with a vintage paint scheme would be great as a drag car.

Dave - This one is not a re-body - A lot of people stepped-up and worked hard to save this car and I saw it a few weeks ago - The window plug is back in and it is back to being a finished original shell once again!

On this old post I refered to a guy I was familar with who had a daytona Gary Sage of NY .I ran across a daytona parts ad of his online .Turns out to be the auction daytona that had the vin plate and parts .That was stopped.Still wonder what became of the wingcar parts from this Nov 2009 auction

Early 80's there was a large warehouse / storage bldg fire destroyed many rare muscle and classic cars, Dan Jennings F6 green daytona was one of the lost

Then a Transmission turned up .That went with no remaining Hemi daytona from FL club reported as stolen

Seeing I'm in the business of cloning wingcars, and producing the parts required,....I've had a good share of customers building cars; Birds and Tona's, either rebodies, or "envelope" cars,......A clean bird/tona ID in an envelope can fetch between $6-$10K....from what I'm "told" :icon_smile_wink: I can't recall how many Emails or telephone calls, or in person solicitations I get to purchase rebody canidates, or "envelope" cars from here in the US and Canada

As long as there's money to be made, or those obsessed with the "numbers matching" thing, there will be those peddling rebodied cars or envelope deals,....this was not the norm back in the day when Mopars were just a hobby, sure cars were rebodied or clipped, that was done to rebuild a rust bucket or wreck,...but today there's just too much money dummies are willing to unload for "pedigree" or numbers status wether it's a wingcar or other type of desirable collectors car......there's a few so-called all original, numbers matching, Galen certified wingcars out there that aren't what they claim,...I know :scratchchin:

Mike, you are right and you are in a position to know.

When I think of Road Runners, I think of all the 383 cars that had 440's swapped into them and are now again matching 383 cars again, some are probably recognized by an expert or two as being perfect.

A simple reading of the "Legal Files" in Sports Car Market Magazine (SCM) will show that many folks know that there are "envelope cars" as you call them around. To me the current obsession with not looking with one's eyes at what is in front of you has gotten more than a few folks to buy a car that was obviously not as described. SCM has also written up the results of people finding out the car they bought had swapped #'s on a different body and the lawsuit that followed tracing back to the "swapper". To me David Patik was way ahead of the curve when he said in the early '90's  "What is irreplaceably lost should not require fraud to compensate for fate".

Very interestig thread. I am friends with Dan who lost his car in a fire and was there to see the remains of the hulk. I walked up to the car and it was surreal. The wing was there and the quarter panel and bumper. The rest was burnt and melted. If I have shots I will post. I did a video back then but it was so many years ago. Dan has a black Daytona now 4spd with white interior and power windows.

Here the first of many. Just learned how to post pics :drool5:

Anyone know where this is?

I have some more I will post later have to go pay the bills. I found pictures of Dans car in one piece and others. Can you believe the green car has a tree growing out of it! I have seen so many wing cars neglected bad not sure why didnt people know that they were something special?

The pictures are not real clear sorry I took a digital picture of 4x6 pictures. I can probabally get them better quality by taking and putting them on a disk which I will with my others and post them. Should I stay on this post or start a different one? Just want to keep in topic.

The topic is Daytona re-body. I figured that meant Daytonas that have been rebodied.  The cars I am posting are Daytonas that are rough cars and could have been rebodied cars right? The green Daytona was the one that was in the Detroit fire before it happened. If you feel this is off topic then no worries I wont post pictures. I figured people would enjoy cars that they may possibly have never seen.

Very interesting topic, thanks for posting.  :popcrn:

Also thanks for the nice comments on my C500.

I noticed in this picture that my old 69 Coronet R/T 440/4speed car was sitting next to the F6 Daytona. I didn't own it then, I too have a different picture of the two cars together at the same show. I also have a picture of Danny's black Daytona and the Hemi C500. I think this picture was taken at the late great Colonial Chrysler Plymouth/Fox Hills dealership on Plymouth, MI. I actually worked there for a few years back in the mid 80's. Despite a good customer rating and decent sales, they were still axed during the dealer downsizing mode. :brickwall:

Hi Steve. You have been around thats for sure I was a young guy at that show. I think I had my Lime Green Superbird at the time. I still have the trophy from the show. I remember I was kinda nervous when they wanted me to say a few words LOL. I never see Dan wonder whats up with him.

Hi Mark, glad to see you on the forum, it's a great place to be. Yeah, we were both alot youger back then weren't we? I remember your Bird well, that was an awesome machine. I would love to see your Generals sometime, especially since you are only about 7 miles away.

I saw Danny last year at Woodward, he stopped by where we were parked for the cruise and ended up hanging out with us for a few years. He still has his cars but don't take them out too much. He was driving an unrestored 70 Charger R/T that he has had for awhile.

Take care,

Love the Forum. I cant believe I never knew about it. I have been on movie car forums because I went a little crazy with them :brickwall: I was always into Barris cars and its cool that I got to know him. I tried to buy my Superbird from Mike Shenks dad years back but they never called and now I heard it was sold a few years back for 100k? Not sure if thats true but  believe it or not I still remember the serial number by heart after all these years.

I cant believe you saw Danny on Woodward. Its so big you can sure miss people. I heard he was selling his Daytona? Was that his red RT he owned forever? I decided I have to buy another aero car. I got the fever again LOL. It will have to be a 500. The ones with the wings are to costly. It can need work but I want matching #s. Love youre car but I have so many and money tied up. Really dont want to let anything go at the moment. You are welcome anytime I have one GL stored right now in Livonia and the other should be back in my garage in a few weeks.

i got my WB general lee right after filming was done in Baton rouge in early 2005. it came with a title. it was the only car to ever do 3 jumps, and was featured in hot rod. it went to volo, then to a museum in Idaho or Utah, and was featured in hot rod again with the rest of the guys collection and was auctioned off again at less than i sold it for in 2005 lol.

here is a pic 2 days before i owned it. i had no idea at the time i would end up owning this car. this was taken right after the 3rd jump which i got to watch  :)

Here is one for you. You will never believe this one. It was a few hours from me back in 1982. This is a Daytona 4spd car. I had a Lime green Superbird at the time and this car came up for sale. WB actually left my car's title signed off by the guy that owned it before they bought it. They then wrote up legal paperwork from WB and Hazzardous productions with the title to sell the car to me. So it of course, also has no restrictions on it

I was wondering about that title because when I bought my car from Warner Brothers the title reads Warner Brothers feature films and I was told that this is the first time in history that they ever sold a car with title and I can do whatever I want with the car they will back it up anytime. Do you still have the car? What number is it?

Well the Daytona is an oarnge 4spd car and I went to look at it in 1982. The guy who owned it was nuts he told me he was in the crazy home for a while. I had no idea what he was talking about but he told me he used to make tennis shoes like the ones I was wearing there. He had like 6 cars in the basement of this house and I couldnt figure out how he got them there. Turns out there was an elevator that could fit a car. My buddy didnt have a winged car and I did so I called him. Really wish I would have bought it because I would have restored it and had it today :-\. I ended up selling my Superbird because I wanted a 4spd winged car but as soon as I did they started going up in price. I looked at several but never could get the right deal. I will be back in action soon I am getting wing car fever. I decided to sell some cars and I will have another before to long.

He wants to keep it quiet until he gets it done so I am respecting that. As soon as its done I will share

He does still own the car. I tell him all the time to get it done but it does no good. Man that picture Is cool. I think I have a pic of that car with the front end. I know the nose was sitting next to the car. I will post it. It could very well be the same car. Do you know where the picture was taken?

This Hemi Daytona wasn't re-bodied per-se, but I'm thinking it had a SERIOUS sheetmetal recovering after it was rolled AT SPEED (100 + mph)!

In an earlier post I didnt notice the link to the red Charger 500. I looked at it and it has to be the same car I have pictured. It hit something real hard probabally a highway crash. Thanks for the information that was neat but sad :brickwall:
