I would like to replace my stock steering wheel on my 1971 Charger with the "Tuff Wheel" reproduction one on ebay
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120027856607
I have never change one before. Whar is involved? Do I need any special tools? Thanks
just a regular steering wheel puller beside the right socket ( as far I remember, 7/8"... or it was 3/4" ? ) to remove your regular one
That wheel itsefl is attached with just 3 7/16" nuts on to adaptor down the horn button SOOOOOO you need to find THE tuff wheel/rimblow wheel adaptor to shaft. Won't simply fit if you had a regular three spokes wheel.
The adaptor carries the horn button wire too.
If you have the rimblow wheel, won't need anymore than just a 7/16" wrench or socket
Where do you find the "tuff wheel/rimblow wheel adaptor to shaft"?
Thansk
ebay... some that could have it NOS ( I sold one about 2 years ago ), junkyards...
Practically All Mopars with tuff wheel used the same adaptor, from 70 to 79/80 I think.
Only doubts abou E bodies. It does exist this adaptor, but I think this was used to the 2 spokes sporty wheel:

It works also to B bodies but is a little bit longer I think. B bodies ones are plain ( not wrinckle ) and shorter. Aspens/Volares with tuff wheel use the same B bodies ones as far I know.
this was the sportier two spokes E bodies wheel that I'm sure usedwrinckle adapter

Same as this sportier three spokes kind used as far I know just on 70 and 71 E bodies.

this is a lates 70s Mopar wheel... adapter is attached and is the same used on earliers. These wheels were colored, not just black as earliers... rubber was different desing too, with simulated seam design different ( baseball seam kind ).
Horn button is similar to 71/72 SE kind with chromed section

this is also a lates 70s kind, with baseball seam design and earliers SE horn button kind, but black. It does have the adapter too:

This is the earliers tuff wheel kind, with the inner simulated seam 90 degrees kind, same as the one reproduced, not baseball seam kind like laters

Since my car is not a show car I went cheap and purchased a Grant 860 from Summit with install kit and they now have a Mopar center cap that looks allright. Thanks for all the great infol
It looks you got scared about prices LOL...
tuff wheel adapter is not that expensive. I think could be found on around $50. I know recently some member paid around that on ebay.
Here is the Grant 860 installed on my 1971. Total cost was $32 for the wheel, $15 for the Grant install kit and $13 for the Grant Mopar horn button.
