Great thanks to my buddy lonnie (moparhound) found a C-500 on craigs list
Had a 426 max wedge in it but not anymore . I got it less motor and trans . No fender tag , no build sheet .
Lived in california most of it's life. Really beat up racing but not really rusty like all my other midwest cars. Some rust but floor pans and frame rails very solid .
4 pictures, and no details???
:popcrn:
hold your horses
no seats but chrome shifter knob and chrom dress up pedals
no fender tag but it must be a R4 red car, then it was painted dark blue , now primer over the top of it . Fenders , doors and hood are not original
Wow! Congratulations man, that is a cool find.
:popcrn:
:popcrn: both quarters are beat up but not rusted all away the right rear lower quarter has some rust holes
:drool5:
:drool5: 68 left fender and 68 power doors
:popcrn: was raced most of it's early life 40k miles then been sitting for 25 years bottom lip of the plug has some rust like most charger rear windows but very fixable
:popcrn: the third picture is the back glass for the 500 under an ebody cuda. I think he took cars apart and hid all the parts in and under and around different cars so no one could steal and get a complete car. He was very eccentric !!!
You da man !!! :2thumbs:
:drool5:
Know any details about it's racing years?
no it was in california this guy bought it 25 years ago then moved to missouri and brought it here about 7 years ago . Just word of mouth from the seller , so hope his info is correct .
He claimes it got stolen and stripped of it's sheet metal that why he was able to buy it .
:drool5: I took the previous pictures last sunday , today we went up and got the car . More pictures and crazy stories of our adventure tomorrow
I do have the car and title in my possesion .

Congrats on the find (anyone hear an echo). JK.
Car looks a better than I was thinking the other day. I think I told you this the other day, but finding one without all of the paperwork and tag is my ideal C500. That means I could put it back together any which way i wanted to, and no one can chime in with any other input.
Once again Congrats Stu, if ya need any help let me know.

thanks everyone and yes i'm sure i will need tons of help danny , so danny is this a new # for your list or did you already have info on it ???????
:drool5: he has several out builds and countless car? not sure i saw but 3/4 of them , These picture taken october 18th saturday , We came to get the car!
for you danny NO NO written on the top of the left tail lamp
:popcrn: check out the brady bunch woody wagon and the 500's back glass in front of it I was taping it up for transport, then i wrapped it in packing and stored it in the car .
he gave me the 70 rear seat as a core to recover, but no buckets came with the car , I was trying to get the head rest style bucket out the of 69 coronet but no dice .
:popcrn:
:drool5: So here is where the story and adventure gets alittle crazy. I Have been talking to this guy off and on for 3 weeks . Went up there last sunday and looked at the car for 3 hours.
We then talk all this last week and strike a deal. Anyway we do strike a deal and I make extensive arrangement to get my buddy to move his cars around and store this one in his barnin nowhere ville kansas. So I also get wayne to take me up there with his roll back and get the car .I call the owner and tell him we can come get the car saturday morning. He says the sooner the better and that he will have all the parts gathered and the max wedge motor and trans out of it ready for us to pick up. LOL Well that all didn't happen.
Time to take out a loan and buy the rest of the cars in that shed! :Twocents:
:popcrn: So he had the motor all unbolted but not out , You guessed it wayne and I had to help him pull the motor and trans before we could pick up the car. We had to first move it out of it's storage place by jacking up the front , and then the rear and over again .
Congrats Stuart! :cheers: Glad to see the deal went through!

:drool5: We left olathe kansas at 8:30 am showed up at his place at 10:00 am . We had a long day ahead of us already so we hoped to load it up fast and get on the road . NOT
2 hours later we had the motor and trans pulled and the car loaded. I guess just an hour and a 1/2 later then we wanted to leave his place but that sure made for a longer day . We had an HPAC cruise to go to that night our local mopar club . I also has my 11 year olds 8 pm football game and they are undefeated .

yeah well he couldnot find the left power 68 door panel, or the two full sets of seat belts he promised , also the front turn signals, a tranny he promied me and several other odds and ends . None of them great losses but annoying that we had to do all this work and not have all the stuff he promised. But there was no way in hell i was leaving without that car !!!!!
He is very sickly and weak so i dont know if it was that or if he thought i was not coming,or maybe he changed his mine on selling?
All in all I'm glad he didnt call me and call it off. It was just a little annoyance and we were back in buisness.

does anyone repop the piece in the bottom picture on the right fender top. This piece goes around the grill at each end flush with the fender , to reduce air flow i think.

Thanks for all the pics too, thats quite a stash you got to be around in both shops.

it's a max wedge motor and he was keepin it from the beginning , no big deal it was all non- matching #'s trans and rear end also thanks guys i'm still on cloud 9
Congrats for about the 10th time here Stuart.
Car looks pretty darn solid. Thanks for the pictures of Wayne's car too, as I've been asking him for a while if I can come and look at it. If I'm not mistaken I thought he had 2 500's, but he might have parted with one of them when he picked up the last daytona.
The piece your missing on the grille area is reproduced by Dayclona that I know of for sure, and they make a reproduction rubber piece that goes on the edges of it as well. Although the original rubbers don't look anything like the repro's.
Thanks for taking us along for the ride. Congrats on the score, hard to believe, but they're still out there.
Quick question on your buddy's white 500, is that original paint?
Doesn't appear to be original paint on Wayne's car. Just basing that one the rear tail stripe, and a few other area's that are missing black overspray on them.
Wow Stuart, you made a hell of a find. You are off to a nice collection buddy :2thumbs:
Sorry I didn't answer this one earlier Stuart. But the VIN for your new car was not one of the known VIN's. It was in a batch of known cars, but that particular VIN wasn't one that I knew of. I think I mentioned the ones around it on the phone the other day.
Great score.Scroll down for charger 500 grille pcs.

Stu made it a point to point out the reflector in the stripe is why I thought maybe it was original paint, why else would he have brought it up? :shruggy:
Which brought the radiator support into question.

no wayne just has one 500 and yes it appears to have been repainted long ago , I was just figuring the reproduced it the was it had been . But i guess you never assume .
wayne has all 5 real aercars his real bird is in minnesota being restored , yes its a great collection of nascar history !!
Happy for you.

I had to bribe my wife to get another car :eek2:. She got a new 3rd kitten but i got to name it . Guess what it's name is charger 500 . :smilielol: Now she will never let me live this new car down .
Do you need that 68 fender??? I could use it.
he says he will trade you a rust free 69 for it.
You named a cat Charger 500? Must be one heck of a cat with a lot of upside/potential. :yesnod:
I can't blame you I named my dog "six pac", because if I thought she was going to be a great dog when she grew up she would have been named "HEMI". Then again the other 2 dogs I had were named "R/T" and "Shelby".

I was going to ask the same thing about the window, and I was going to follow it up and ask you what the date code is on the rear glass. I'm figuring that it is a 98G for the rear window.

Congrats, Stu! Quite a find, and I'm glad you have it all tucked away. One of the hardest parts of an Aerocar restoration is finding and buying the car. Got it Stu thanks :thumbs:
what are you gonna do for a motor and nice find :2thumbs:
If you wanted to know what day I figure it would have been built on I'd say B20. Based on all of the cars around it. And that would mean that if it did have a fender tag it should read XX not XS as they switched to XX sometime on B14.

I'm not familiar with B20 or B14 term ? explain please ! thanks is that nov 14 or nov 20 ?
Yes that would be correct. B20 is November 20th of 1968, in this case anyways.

"B" is for November.
1 = Jan
2 = Feb
3 = Mar
4 = Apr
5 = May
6 = Jun
7 = Jul
8 = Aug
9 = Sep
A = Oct
B = Nov
C = Dec
thanks now i understand
Nothing wrong with that. Just a side note though there aren't any A__ built Charger 500's though. For some reason they built them in August, September, November, and December. But none that I know of in October.
i gotta look at my 440 motors stash . i believe i have a 68 hp 440 with no vin #'s on it . but i think you'll want a 69 hp motor .

Depends on how many you call plenty. 15 VIN's between your car Paul and the one Stuart picked up. 13 of which are 440 cars, 2 are HEMI's.
I'd say thats plenty no? :scratchchin:

You're in your teens right? Let me tell you a little story. I was in my teens and my Dads Mint condition roadrunner that he has had since i was born was sitting in storage and i was itching to get it out and get the engine pulled for a rebuild all in time for my Junior Prom. So after months of begging we pull the roadrunner into the shop and pulled the engine and tore it down and sent it off to the engine shop. Months went by, then it was getting close to Prom and no roadrunner engine. Prom came and went, but i though, no problem, i'll get it ready for homecoming dance. That came and went, then it was Prom my Senior year and no roadrunner. We finally got the engine back in the car and running when i was 19 and off to college. Now, do you think it was just a tough time getting that car back together for me to drive, or might there have been a reason my Dad didnt have that engine back earlier? Do you follow? :icon_smile_big:

How many of those 257 are still in existence?

Of the one's I have information on there is honestly only a handful that I know for sure that aren't around any more. I'd put the number that are still around about the 225-235 range. I know for sure of 12 that have been scrapped/junked and no chance of being fixed as they went the way of the crusher. Although for 2 of those cars the tags are still out there floating around.
Thank you Danny For the new info on the 500s :2thumbs: Jay.

After the long day i was not crawling back there to make wayne show me his tail lamp top !!!
Danny wayne have been doing more work on his 500, he called me yesterday and it just has one "No" on the top of the left tail lamp ? What does this mean again . ? So i can tell him ?
I know you said it had soming to do with the light group ? Why did mine have "No" Twice ??
Wayne just called again and he is having the same guy who did the restoration on my birdible put floor pans and quarters and repair his plug and paint his 500. This guy is good and quick he should have it back by january !!!! If i can get pictures of the project as it goes I will post them .
It is all an assumption on my part, but I believe the "NO" to mean that the car wasn't to get the trunk light relocated after the window plug was installed by creative. I am basing this solely on the fact that I have seen very few cars with the wording "YES" on them, and the only thing in the trunk that all of those cars have in common is the A01 trunk light package. And being that once the plug was installed by Creative, they had to cut then reweld the tab for the light on the new trunk lip.

Any idea's on the second "NO" in my car ? Are there other cars with " NO " twice ? Lots of cars with Yes and No ?
I think the count was something like 12 cars with "NO" and 4 cars with a "YES". Of the ones with "NO", I have seen them with as many as 3 "NO"s. One car I looked at had "NO" on top of two of the tail lights, as well as "NO" on the lip of the tail panel.
I believe that both Allen's 500 said "YES" and that Paul's 500 said "NO". Can't think of any one else's from the board that had writting on it. Oh, Jerry's HEMI 500 said "NO". Asked him about it at St. Louis this last year, and we checked and sure enough still said "NO" in yellow grease pencil. I might be wrong on Allen's car though, I know there was a picture somewhere in his thread on his car's restoration. Honestly I haven't taken the time to go through that thread and save all the pictures he posted yet. One of these days I need to get around to doing that.

I did spend the money for the a -piilars moldings and wayne gave me two standard charger rear back glass moldings to modify. I should have another set of back glass molding off the dayclona project when the vega hatch gets installed . But that blew the budget for the 500 this year . moparstuart, is that truck stop on I70 between the 55 and 75 mile marker on the north side of the highway?? In the GREAT STATE OF MISSOURI of course...........
i'm from the Blackburn/Marshall area (HWY 65 and 20) i've seen that sign somewhere there, haven't been home in years though, i miss it..............
anyway, if it is where i think it is, if you can look around some more, back in the late 90's there was a yellow Superbird parked there several times a week.........................
truck stop was many pages and days ago, hope you understand what i mean................
truck stop is on 29 between kc and st joe , My salvage yard is 30 minutes from marshall we deliver to marshall a couple time s a week .
on the west side of marshall there is a farm with quite a few old cars out in the trees but he wont sell to anybody, hard to see whats there in the trees, their all sinking into the ground
sorry about the truck stop, i thought there was one with that FARRIS sign out on 70 between marshall junction and higginsville

i've seen it, been in Nevada almost 11 years now, used to run around Higginsville, Concordia, alma and marshall as a kid, the place i always saw the bird at was alot closer to sweet springs if i remember right, but anyway it was a long time ago
HELP Ok i need you guys with the numbers books help ?
would this radiator my buddy has be the correct radiator number for my 500, ? it has a 22 inch smaller opening and is a 440 auto non a/c car ?
my buddys story .
I have a ton of parts in my garage that I just have to move. One piece is the 22" radiator that was in my RR with the 383. It is a good radiator and ran very cool, in fact the engine ran too cool with a 160º F thermostat. I want to put it up for sale but I have no idea of it's value, the PN is 2949053. That's a 1969 22" big block radiator. I wondered if any of you guys had any idea about what it is worth.

Yes (I think so :scratchchin:) ;) . The 2949053 radiator was used with all non-A/C 383 engines,
and all 440 auto non-A/C (and non Max Cool option) engines (while the Daytona and 6-pak engines used 2949055, and the Hemi 2949054). Tony's website has them for $345 (assuming a core rebuild will be needed) so if it a good operating radiator $400 would be a
great price. :Twocents: I have one of those radiators salted away in my garage that was on my Father-in-laws Super Bee. :cheers:

Are you saying the pedal dress-up could be ordered on a '69 Charger without the A47 Special Edition Package? What would that option's sales code be?
:shruggy:
J41 pedal dress up? :shruggy:
:popcrn: :popcrn:
I was thinking the dress up was for both regular Charger and RT package as well, not only for SE models. Can someone who knows for sure verify or not. Would be fun to know.

According to the sales literature Chris has scanned on his website, page 47, states the Pedal Dress-up is only available as part of the Special Edition Package.
http://www.1969chargerregistry.com/gallery/facts/69_Charger0019 (http://www.1969chargerregistry.com/gallery/facts/69_Charger0019)
Now, is anything possible? Of course... But, rule of thumb was you could only get it via A47 Special Edition Package.
Thanks. Yes it does say available in package only. That facts and features manual is good to have. I have a similar one that I got off of yearone. Haven't looked in it for some time.
One thing I saw under A47 package was, "Leather and Vinyl front bucket seats, available in SE package only." What seats were then in the RT?

They would be all vinyl with the cloth insert as a option with black interior only.
well bought a few parts to get the car moving maybe , I was going to maybe toss it back together get it running
and just drive it joe dirt style for a while , working on and tweeking it as i have fun . So nvrbdn jim sold me a set of 69 front bucket and they come with a set of new skins to be put on . Dennis 70 R/T sold me a set of polara wheel covers i love and will look great on the 500. I bought a correct numbers matching 22 in radiator on the cheap a year ago that had just been redone . Then a steel crank stock 440 came up for sale and i figured it would work great to get the car moving .
Then out of the blue just a week after having to sell my 69 Road Runner high school car , a guys calls and offer to buy the 500 , Wish he had called a month before :scratchchin: :scratchchin: :scratchchin: :popcrn: :popcrn: :popcrn:

Stuart, I just went back & looked at your 500 classified ad & it's definitely not in bad shape as far as projects go. If I didn't have so much unfinished crap going on I'd give some consideration to it for a Daytona conversion. After all, I have almost all the parts now & just need one fender scoop & a few odds & ends.
With the rust around the window channel in the back, I wonder how much work it would be to put the Vega hatch in there? :shruggy:
Kidding about the Vega thing. :lol:

:scratchchin:
window channel easy fix
Much easier than putting a Vega hatch in a non-XX car.
I was joking about the Vega hatch, I even said so. :lol:
The rear window & trunk never appealed to me very much on the 500 & the Daytona, that's why I'm still undecided if I'll ever add the Vega hatch to my car. For me it would be a ton of work (and money) to add something that I'm just not crazy about. If there was a car already done, or a real one I could actually afford, I'd be okay with it. Part of my thought process is that if I go through conversion I may as well do the window, too. :shruggy:
Oops, sorry missed it. :misbehaving:
