Title: Fitz'z '73 Resto Thread
Post by: Fitz73Chrgr on March 13, 2012, 01:44:23 PM
I've posted pictures of our car before, but haven't started a thread.  A little background info:  I found this car in the newspaper back in 2003 when I was 16 years old.  My Dad and I went to look at the car and I wanted to buy it and use it as my daily driver.  My Dad knew better and bought it himself as a project for us to do together.  9 years later, it's still a long way from being done.  I recently left to begin my tenure as an officer in the Marine Corps, so progress will be even slower.
Enough with the chatter, on with the pictures!

The day we bought it in March of 2003 (running and driving):

After building a garage addition, acquiring parts and beginning dis assembly and restoring the front cross member, etc:

In March of 2009, we painted the underside and engine bay FY1 Top Banana.  There were imperfections in the paint and ended up repainting the engine bay.

How she sits today.  All that remains before it gets set back down on the wheels are shocks.  The brakes are complete and working.

Good deal, brother.  I'll be a 7599 SNA as soon as I graduate TBS, which is where I am now.

She's back on wheels!  Next step is to paint the interior and trunk.

Years later, time to post some progress.  I was back in St. Louis on leave in October and Dad and I had some time to make some real progress on the '73.  He's been slowly working on it the past few years.  He's got the interior finished and changed to black. All it needs is a headliner.  But, more importantly he had 408ci stroker built by a local machine shop as well as a 727 to back it.  We had about 5 free days to install the engine and trans and get it running.  We ran into a bunch of problems, of course, but the most enjoyable part about it was finding a workaround for each problem we hit.  It was basically a 5-day thrash to get it done, and on the afternoon of the last day, we started the car for the first time in probably 10 or 11 years.  What a great feeling.

Next steps are driveshaft, throttle linkage, shift linkage then a drive!
After that it''ll be time for the body shop.
14 years and counting...

What machine shop did you use? I have a 5.9 I am looking to stroke/rebuild and could use a good recommendation. Dave

Phase II Machine on Watson.  Sounds like they have a good reputation.
