I am in the process of putting back original seat belts in my '68 Charger. The car (will) have shoulder belts and the front / rear lap belts.
The shoulder belt clips to the retainer at the sunvisor when not used. But what about the front and rear lap belts? Did these clip to any retainer when not used and where should the retainers be located? I have heard different opinions about these being standard from factory or not.
had always assumed they were standard factory equipment , but think it has been mentioned they were an option , on non R/T models , :shruggy: i'm no expert !! I await to be corrected   :2thumbs:

I think they are standard. An option maybe on the 70 XH cars?
Those were standard equipment on all '69s AFAIK Not sure about 68 or 70
Found them on the front seats! :2thumbs:
None on the rear seat? Maybe they are broken off... :shruggy: Should it be a "2 + 1" retainer for the rear seat?
Correct.
I just checked mine and found none. is there a picture of the mounting points or is there one in the FSM, didn't find one? I got the point on the visor but nothing else. Thanks guys.

I can get pics on my front seat belt retainers and post here. Haven't figured out the exact position for the rear ones. Will check the rear seat frame and see if I can figure it out.
I should have pics somewhere too of the placement but I'll need to search for them.
I looked on my seats and couldn't find any holes or other indication of retainers or their mounting points.
i had them on my 68 charger that i bought new and i think they were atatched to the front of the rear seat. i have this one left if anyone wants it. charger490
The retainer clip was mounted to the right side front face of the seats in the front. Mine did not have retainers on the rear seats, or if they did, they were removed before i bought the car. Once i put new seatcovers on, you couldn't tell where the clips would mount unless you knew where they were before.
when i said right side, i meant the right side of the drivers seat, the passenger side probably was on left side of the seat nearest the buddy seat or console.

Here is pic of my '69. I put the retainers back in the original position after replacing the seat covers. Maybe it will help.
Anyone got a pic of the front seats??
Great pic on the back seat retainers.
I can take pics on my front seats next time I am in the garage, probably on Saturday.
Ah yes, I forgot to put those on my list. I'll have 3 point retractable belts up front but am keeping the rear lap belts so I'll have to get a set of them retaining thingies.
I could use a picture of the front seat retaining clips as well for the front seats. I took them of when I dismantled the car but I have the seats installed now and I cant seem to locate where they clips mount.
'70's did not have them.
I think he's talking about a 68.
Right.
I just saw '70 referenced so I was responding to that.
I know '68's had them, Chris confirmed '69 as well.
My 69 had them on the front seats, but they weren't on the back seat when i got the car in 1978, and it was 100% stock when i got it. Possible someone removed them from the back seat, but i didn't see any holes in the vinyl.
Could have just been missed at the factory too.
Yes. 68. I cant seem to locate the ho;e to remount these.

I think he meant he can't find the hole in the seat where it attaches. If you've recovered the seats it may be hard to find.
I've parted out several 68-69 Chargers and have never seen one. I don't have them on the two remaining complete cars (69), one of which was complete down to the redline spare.
Were they plastic? Did they break off? Was it common to remove them? i.e. catcing on clothing?
They are part plastic part metal, the part that bolts on is metal, the tab that goes into the seat belt end is plastic, and if mishandled can break off. I doubt many actually stored the belts clipped to them up front because it was just easier to unfasten and let go of it, plus the fact that you'd have to readjust the length of the belt to fit snugly, I believe the retractor part is only on the tongue side, not sure anymore since i haven't had belts in mine for a long time.
In the back seat it was just easier to tuck the belts between the cushions, so i can understand few using the clips. BUT at a show, it makes the belts look neatly stored.

Lord Warlock, thank you for the reply. Yes I did recover the seats. I have felt around underneath and cannot feel the mounting holes. I do not want to removes the seats to locate them but I just may have to. If someone could take a measurement of the location of the holes it would be much appreciated. Thankk you!

I couldn't measure the holes but maybe this passenger seat pic will help. I put "approx" because the curvature of the seat corner makes it difficult to measure.

I agree using the clips make a neater appearance. I went even further and put elastic hair bands to prevent the excess belt section from hanging down/over. Yes, sometimes I have been told I am too picky! ;D

The rear were all plastic. The front were plastic riveted on to a metal bracket.
FWIW, the parts books shows them for 68-69 A and B bodies. For '70 they are shown only if you had the "deluxe restraint system" (option code C15). I have had 4 68-69 Chargers over the years. 2 had them, 1 did not but had marks/holes where they were, 1 had no sign of them at all. A friend's '69 Barracuda has them, another friends '69 Dart does not. I have not looked at the Dart close to see if there are any signs of them being there originally. So, regardless of what the parts books say, maybe all did not get them. :shruggy:
They wouldn't be coded on the build sheet anywhere would they? not sure where to look if they are.

As I posted above, according to the parts books they were standard for '68-69, but maybe different in reality/actual production. In '70 they were part of the "deluxe restraint system" for all model Chargers.

OEM '69 belts have this feature built in via a plastic loop on the belts :2thumbs:
Which sadly seems often broken today. A brittle plastic I guess.

moparfan 53, thank you! I now have all my belt and clips mounted. The mounting holes for the front clips are slotted so all I needed to be was in the ball park. Peace

Thanks for the info. I did not know that. My car was missing the rear belts so I bought a repro set.
