hey guys!! first off....MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!! so, after 50 years, my heater core finally took a poop yesterday in my '69 SE Charger. the last time i did a heater core was back in the 80's............so, with that being said, anyone have a detailed removal / installation procedure for a heater core replacement w/AC?
any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!
thanks guys!!!

That's a big, expensive job, doing it yourself.
need to remove the ac heater box from the car, & to remove the heater core , you need to completely take the box apart , take photos as you go , especially of how the linkage is set up etc
this is not in order but you get the idea what's involved. disconnect refrigeration pipes engine bay side , remove radio, glove box liner, centre console, under dash air trunking, vacuum pipes , heater hose pipes, heater controls & heat control cable from the back of the water control valve on the fire wall, fan motor vent tube, complete ash tray ( to see what's going on back there & for access ), multi plug wiring connector , a couple of connectors from the heater resistor, two from the time delay switch which is under the air recirculating door. fan motor wiring engine bay side , one connector & one ground wire heater box support bracket. the heater box attaches to the fire wall by 5 nuts, from the engine side. best to remove the passenger side front seat too. heater box is removed from the passenger side foot well , as you pull the studs free from the fire wall , angle it down slightly at fan motor end & lower it from dash, its heavier that you think , ive prolly forgot some stuff been so long since I have had that damn thing out & in more times than I care to remember :icon_smile_blackeye:::). ive since removed all AC stuff swapped to a standard heaterbox much easier :yesnod:

yeah....i kinda figured it would be a project......i haven't had the AC connected for years, but, maybe this will encourage me to get it all working again or put in a Classic Air upgrade. anyone know a good replacement heater core vendor / mfg? i do NOT want something made in China!! the the last 50 years, this car is all American.....and as long as i live, it will stay that way :)
thanks so much guys!!!!
you know i will be posting updates, probably will have to wait until Spring time to do it, and i'll just bypass it so i can still run / drive it around.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!

Merry Christmas too!
Having done 2 heater cores in the last 3 years I can tell you I would rather pull the engine or sell the car! It is a horrible job which reminded me how poorly engineered this 1 aspect of old B Bodies was. They are great cars and last forever but if you won't sell the car, then move to Arizona rather than pulling that miserable piece of Purdue University engineering. ;) ;)
Really, good luck, take pictures as you take it apart, and plan on walking away cussing at least 8-10 times while getting stitches in several knuckles and your head, leaking rusty old antifreeze on your new carpet, needing 9 friends with 7 foot arms and lots of extra fingers to help you. Marrying an Octopus with a Go Go gadget arm or two is your best bet. That or investing in a space heater, 110 volt converter, new wiring and a trunk generator.
well, what i'm gonna do is pull it out, talk to the "Heater Guy" he's not too far from where i live, and have him do a rebuild on it, that will motivate me to get the AC running again too, for now, heater bypass will be in store until probably early spring.
patience and time......another 2 years 9 months, i retire from the Army, all kinds of time for my projects that are waiting for me!!!
