I put 1.6 ratio rocker arms in a 440 based 493 with a '509 cam. The main thing that I noticed was that the cranking compression numbers evened out. This told me that the stamped steel ones that I had maybe had some variance in actual ratio. I don't know that the higher ratio made much of an increase in power though.

congratulations ! great stuff  :2thumbs:   :yesnod:

what B5B  and  FGF  said  :coolgleamA:  :yesnod:  :2thumbs:

think if it was mine , eventually after driving the crap out of it  :drive:  :yesnod:  :coolgleamA:  would restore it to look factory but keep the  running gear 440 as is , although would the stock hood  clear the intake set up ? plus you still have the original 383
in any case looking stockish from the out side is my kind of thing  or in other words  the day 2 look  :coolgleamA:  :2thumbs:

Great find!

If it were mine I would drive it as is in the short term, and then restore it to factory correct when you are ready

WOW nice car!
Is this what it looked like when you bought it?

I would leave it like it is

Swap from factory 1.5 ratio rockers to some 1.6 ratio and find out! For most mild to moderately modified 383/440's, you'll pick up 10-20 hp (perhaps a bit more if you're also upgrading from conventional to roller rockers)

Well I actually worked on the Car in 1985 in Salisbury Highschool, Sherwood Park, Alberta in 1985.  The car came from a former school graduate and was having the some ball joint work in "auto Shop grade 12" and someone slipped and the crow bar chipped the lip on the fender.  Owner Mike was not happy, I became friendly with Mike because I loved Chargers.  Few years later I had my own 70 R/T Six Pack 4 speed. Anyways I join the Army and later "Law Enforcement" and never saw the car again.  Until 3 months ago, I was driving by Mikes house located next to a freeway. It had been sitting in a BARN under a cover for the last 35 yrs. Long story short I asked him could I buy it.  He said maybe yesterday I started offering money, be became emotional and said he had to go to a hockey game and he would call me maybe tomorrow.  Long Story short Went over today and I am the 3rd owner.

So its a 383 original 4 speed SE car, original Blue, and had an original White Vinyl roof, wood grain dash.

It now has a 525 hp engine 440 with highrise as per pic.(I will try to link the you video). Dana 411 rear end.

Why was it parked for so long. In the 90's he had it painted again and the paint sucked and refused to drive it. Believe or not.

He kept the original block, rear end, and steering wheel. They come with the car.

Think of restoring to original.
