Just a quick mock up of the valance. The fit is excellent, just as it should be. Just need to push the corners in just a hair more to fill in the gap but I am more than happy with this purchase.

Mounted the most important item haha.

Maybe yu should send it to amd so they can try the valance again lol.

Am I dreaming r wasn't all amd metal "supposed" to have been copied from NOS ?

I would gladly let them use it if it wouldn't need to be in their possession for 6+ months

They say some of their products were made using NOS parts, but I know not all of them were.

Keep in mind that back then the tolerances were much greater than they are now.  Two identical pieces would not necessarily be identical at all.

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

charger_fan_4ever

How bad is the amd side by side with the nos piece ? top bend looks way better than the AMD piece.

There really is no comparison. This NOS piece fits perfectly and is not going to need one bit of tweaking. I'll give AMD credit, they got the revised valance alot closer then their original attempt but its still got a ways to go. I wish I could send this to them to give them a better part to make theirs off of but I just cant let it go for that long.

Interesting, I hope they get it right eventually.

Not much progress lately, been working to much.

But it does have a 4 speed hump welded in finally.

Tail panel showed up in the mail today  :icon_smile_big:

I'll be busy doing my final adjustment and getting the NOS valance and NOS tail welded in this weekend.
Couple pics. Note that I leterally just tossed this on and clamped it I did not do any fitting whatsoever on either part.
The fit is much better then the AMD part IMO.

Was happy with how it fit after some minor tweaking of the corners, test fit the tail panel to make sure everything lined up well and then got the spot welder out.

Trunk not latched all the way in this pic.

Should be able to weld the tailpanel, trunk latch support, gutters ect.... in over the next couple days. After that I'll takle the roof and then the metal work is finished
So far I am thrilled with how this is starting to come together, spent a little more than I had wanted to but oh well.... I'm not doing this car again so it's getting done right.

Real Nice Ryan!  :2thumbs: I'm patching and repairing in the same rear areas on my 70 and it's a PIA.  :eek2:

charger_fan_4ever

I hear ya about the little more time involved, but like you said do it once and do it right. Cost double to take short cuts in the long run.

Lookin good.

Ryan

Decided against using the AMD trunk latch support and repaired my original instead. My reasoning was that the latch support AMD sells is for a 68, 69 is different. 68 has 2 access holes below that latch and 69 has 3.

My original support was in good shape except for where it welds to the trunk pan so I sliced that off, sliced the bottom off the new AMD part and welded together. Turned out nice. It'll just need a tiny dab of filler to smooth it out.

Can't wait to see the difference in how the taillights fit. NOS or OE is the best way to go in that area of the Charger. Looks great!

Yes I am looking forward to that as well. I need to salvage the buckets off of my original panel and spot weld them onto the new panel. Hopefully I can do that this weekend.

It seemed the AMD tailpanel itself was ok on my 70. It fit pretty good. It was just the buckets that were way wrong.
Did you have other issues witht he AMD one ?

If they just sold the pan with the buckets off and you put them on yourself would be easier than having to cut it up to rework them.

Over all I'd say the fit was good. The problems I noticed other than the bucket positioning was the openings them selves did not match the taillights. The curved area on the bottom was way off.
The other thing I noticed although a minor issue but worth noting was the panel is cut a little short where it meets with the trunk gutters.

I agree they should sell them without the buckets welded in.

Just got the buckets back from the blaster this morning. Should get spot welded in tomorrow AM. Test fitting looked perfect.
