Looks like a 1969 cyclone spoiler in front of the S'Bird
It is in Bethalto, IL, right near St. Louis...anyone know the cars?
I don't, but I emailed the guy. See what he says.
Those General Lee wheels must add a whopping 20 bucks to the value.
They're color keyed, they add 20.11.

Yes, looks like a long nose Spoiler II Cale car.
Is it correct for it to have that hood scoop, I thought the Ford aero cars all had flat hoods?
Wow !! :2thumbs:

Correct, should be no hood scoop on a Spoiler II.
I have seen many "short nose" Spoiler II's with a hood scoop....but not on the aero nose editions

Just curious but did any of you guys actually get ahold of the guy? Not interested in the Bird, but that spoiler would look good here at my place. Then again a Daytona would look better.
I talked to him. Really nice guy. I might be going down there to see and shoot the cars.

I talked to him today also... said hes had 2 or 3 calls on the charger and 25 on the bird (charger is now sold to somebody in Texas)... ( I asked ..was the guy's name Troy.lol)
The bird was originally 6pk auto bench car. (now has nom 4sp and a dana) 70K for the Bird,\...Then there's the Daytona, 440 auto console, black interior, matching number , with a build sheet. 80K buys it......AND THEN,,,, there's the 70 HEMI cuda HIGH optioned car with 20K original miles. says hes owned it 40plus years..said it will take a pretty penny to buy it (200K) ...If anybody is interested,,,, better Hurry.. told me RK motors was heading there tomorrow or next day. We had a good conversation He said he knows the market is down, But he owns 50 plus cars.. and running out of room.
" he who hesitates, is lost"
Doug I wish for the clubs sake, I would have asked for the VINs ,(got caught up in the descriptions of the cars and forgot to ask) But I feel like he would have told me if I would have asked. just too show how many people are calling he put me on hold twice to tell guys he would call them back.

I went there today. He showed me all the incredible barn finds he has. I am uploading the pictures now. The only car I could not get the VIN of is the 69 Charger 500 he has. There was just no way to get to it. Once this slow hotel internet uploads the pics I will get the link up here. But I also know the histories of all the cars and wrote them down. So if you have any questions, I can hopefully answer them.

What's the general condition of most of the cars? Similar to the 66? Or better....worse???? Seems like a good price on a bird if it's not to all lost.... :scratchchin: :scratchchin:
Thats a shame on the 500 VIN. :-\ (great on the rest of course)

Okay.... small kerfuffle.
My main camera, my DSLR, the flash blew out a few weeks ago. I am waiting on replacement part... but in the meantime I am using a small point and shoot camera with a flash for darker pictures and some flash lights.... while also using the DSLR because of its nicer pictures.
The issue is, the pictures are all over the place. There is a rhyme to the reason, you can see the path we took around the barns. But every Daytona/Superbird/500 picture might not be right next to each other. So please look around.
The Daytona he's had since the 70's. It is a 440 car.
Enjoy!

I wonder if he has any rear window molding for a superbird I could some.
Wow, every Aero car including the 80's GM, AND a Yugo with a blown Hemi in the back! Now I've seen it all...
Thanks for sharing Ryan!
I called him he has no molding for a sb. The phone is ringing of the hook. He told me he is only selling the charger.
Yeah, he had a slight idea of what he might be doing with that barn picture, but had no idea the kind of response it would bring.
I'll take the Hemi 'Cuda and the Daytona please. Will he take a check ? :D

Dave
Thanks for the pics Ryan, What is the story on the bike? Is the vega a Cosworth? I had an old Goggomobil when I was a kid and the little car with suicide doors looks similar. Thanks again for posting.
Sorry I just got home from the trip. I made another stop.... I will post that later. But first your questions.
He does not accept check, sorry. Wire transfer, yes!
Dave, the Daytona was mint. It had been in the back of that trailer under a cover of some sort completely out of the elements for decades.
The bike is a 1946 Indian Chief he told me. It is not his, it is his fathers. The father bought it in the mid-50's. It was not for sale. The Vega was a Cosworth.
Most of the cars he said he drove to where they are sitting. Only a handful he got as projects were non-runners.

These people did save cars from being made into refrigerators agreed. However these people are generally perceived poorly in these threads. Most times the opinions expressed by the have nots is not good. I just don't agree with putting people in that position. My experience over the years is they are some of the nicest people you will ever meet. I just think its a shame the bad publicity they get sometimes because of these threads. They weren't bothering anyone just going on with life. :Twocents:

Ryan, first of all thanks for some more Barn Car "porn" for us to drool on :2thumbs:
Second, I agree fully with the comments about the negative perception not being deserved because someone either had the foresight, or more than likely the desire to own and collect these cars.
I think many of the people throwing out comments like "sell them to me and let me save them" or "that guy is a jerk for letting them rot I should have them" are made out of jealousy. I bet a majority of those keyboard experts either dont have the cash or ability to bring even one of these cars back to restored/driver/survivor/show car status. It really would be no surprise to me if many of the rock throwers simply want to but these cars cheap, then flip for big bucks.
Just my :Twocents:

The race car had been shopped around a couple of years ago. I believe it was in California as stated.
More pics from 2011.
It's probably silly to even ask. But what kind of money are they asking for the Allison car?

Not sure what the asking price was. It seems to have already changed hands. Although it is in the same photo set, it's not part of the barn finds with all those other cars.
Sorry, I was out all day and went to bed early last night.
Yeah, the Allison car was at a friends shop on the way home. It is not a barn find. Just a cool find as I was not expecting it.
There is a video. Enjoy

Ok, looks like I will be visiting the AERO cars tomorrow. Told him I would drive over in the 500. So lets hope the forecast is accurate and its going to be a pretty decent day. Gives me as good of a reason as any to get it out, and stretch its legs right? I mean whats a 245 mile drive when your cruising in a 500. Its a fun day if you ask me.
Now my kid wants to tag along too, which is never a bad thing. Glad he likes these cars.
you better take pics also..or yer fired

Give us a good report on the Daytona.

This is a scam.
I don't get this as being a scam necessarily. More like someones ulterior motives. Link was posted on Moparts a couple days ago. Don't think for a minute think someone hasn't thought of this. As they say its all fun till someone gets hurt!
I was thinking the same thing. Guy says he needs capital. He's looking for someone else to pony up the cash so he can turn it onto a gold mine in restoration fees.
Troy
It's a scam in the sense that the guy is full of it.
I talked to the owner. He had talked to this yahoo at one point. But never mentioned prices and such. But they were working on a time for the kid to come out and see the cars.
I gave the owner the guys craigslist ad for reference.

Ya the guy will never pull this off probably-hopefully. But it's no scam in the sense that someone came up with this idea of how to profit off of or gain a moment of fame from this guys hard work and love for the hobby. Now like it or not because he made the mistake of including the Superbird in the Ebay ad he has to deal with guys like this. I'm very confident the guy is no dummy and will not fall for this but why should he have to deal with it at all?
if anyone (other than me, of course) is going to score that daytona, i hope it's danny. he drove the c500 out there, and is well versed in the troy-trade theory.
i suppose i could settle for the hemi r/t 'vert...

No deal on a trade. Now no deal on making it back home at a decent hour. Broke down on interstate. Made ten calls to locate someone near with a trailer. No deal yet. So if anyone knows of a anyone near Effingham, I am stuck here in the 500. Road side diagnosis would be broken suspension piece. Not sure what exactly, but it's not major but not drivable.

I know this is late, but if you don't find anyone, I know a guy just north in Champaign.

Get home, find out what's wrong, turn around and come up to the Chicago Mopar Swap and get what you need....
Or just drag the car up here, we'll fix it in my garage.
I think once I get it home I will be going to bed. Whatever is broke can wait to be fixed. Do not have a flashlight with me, or I would still be out there checking it ou. Could not feel anything lose on the suspension, but something is not right. Keeps binding up at the wheel on drivers side.
Control arm? Idler arm? Caliper bolt broke and binding up on rotor? Not sure just know it's better to wait for trailer than to try to drive it the 175 miles to house.
Sorry to hear this Danny. Best of luck! Get everything home in one piece.
Dang Danny that sucks! Be careful loading up and going home.

Hum, could be any of those things. Get home safe.
It's all good. Things break on these cars. 40+ years old . Probably not smartest thing to take off 230 miles from house for first test run of year but hey it was a good cruise over.
Why do I think last I remember you have like a 4:10 gear in the rear of the 500. At least the voltage regulator is still working huh. ;)

The guy Rich is the scammer. He did talk to the owner and try to setup a time to see the cars, but they never talked prices or such. So this guy is just fishing for money.
Davtona your right I did have 4.10 in it. Now she went on a diet and is wearing a 2.76 rear end, plus upgraded to 15" rims. Cruises sweet now at highway speeds. Well did until yesterday. Pulled in to my driveway at 7 am this morning . Had to wait for trailer then ramp on trailer broke. Had to rig it up long enough to get car up. Then had to build a ramp here at the house to get car off trailer. Now it's back I. The garage awaiting diagnosis.
Ryan, the guy told me yesterday he had spoke to guy in Boston. Not sure if he gave him prices or not, but he did give me prices on the cars. But was not sure he wanted to actually sell any of them.
Sorry to hear about your misfortune on your road trip. It gonna happen if you drive them enough, but still worth it!
I'm interested to hear about the 500 - colors, options, the long story.... etc. and of course if it's a known car or not.

He said the same to me. That he had talked too the guy, and were arranging to see the cars. But hadn't talked about if they were for sale or prices. Guess he has thought more about it.
The 500 was a car that was known. The VIN was already. In my list.
Ryan. He had told me prices on all cars a week ago when I had first talked to him. Did not discuss prices on anything yesterday.
500 was rough. Crawled under it to try to check numbers on drivetrain. Trans is out of a 70, so not matching. Engine I could not get to. Had to be a contortionist just to get under far enough to read trans. Plus block was covered in dirt and grease so could not make out any numbers. Car would need completely stripped. Trunk had about 4-5 inches of diet/pebbles in it. Plus carpet out of another car, so trunk floor was shot. Frame rails appeared solid though. Minor rust in lower quarters, my guess is from the dirt and such allowing moisture to stay in the trunk. Interior. Console cracked. Seat in rear could be om with good cleaning. Fronts need fixed as it was hard and cracked as you tried to put weight on it. Car has hood pins on it currently, but could not get hood open to see anything in the engine compartment. Rear window trim and glass was all present and in good shape. Could not find a pillar chrome pieces though. They were not on car, in it, or stored anywhere around it.

This car does not exhibit the typical Nichels style of construction quality.
Before anyone signs off on this, it needs to be thoroughly documented with a vintage paper trail
consisting of photos showing various parts or areas of the car that have survived from Day 1.
It has Nichels parts on it, but those were easily bought back in the day.
ALL MoPar stock car parts came from Ray Nichels from 1964 to the end of 1970,
except the Pettys. But when the Pettys came back in 1970, the two SuperBirds were made by Nichels.
When you consider Nascar, USAC, IMCA, ARCA, and local tracks, there were a lot of MoPars out there.
Lesser teams would also copy build techniques, like seat installation, for example.
Ryan - your reputation is on the line! :Twocents:

I haven't been back, they got busy and I got busy and we couldn't come together to shoot the items.
After Power Tour we're going to work at getting together to more fully document cars and history.
I did submit the article on this Barn Find though. Should see it in Muscle Car Review here in a few months. And as submitted, it does say that I got the lead from www.dodgecharger.com. Will they edit that out, I don't know. But that's how I sent it in!

Do you guys remember this find? Well I stayed friends with the owner and did some update videos through the years. But finally he built a new storage building and moved everything in there.
And more good news, the Daytona and Superbird are now running and driving and have traveled quite a bit!

Thanks for sharing Ryan.......
When I get down there this December, I'll get some videos of the cars running. I think the Talladega is up next to get sorted out. He just finished the Superbird a few weeks ago.
Here it is before in the barn and just after getting it running and driving.
He was a super nice guy. He put up with me driving my 500 over to his house for a visit. Which turned into me staying at his house for 14 hours.
wouldn't that Superbird be worth more with the Dust left on it :scratchchin: :shruggy:
