Title: alternator (wire shield?)

is this part needed?
I cannot find the part on-line... battery side line

i can see the importance of it i guess. but the wire was cut or broke off.

(i know.. poor photo too)

Found the part I need. 

Probably do without it though since it's not really even needed.

Its purpose is to prevent inadvertent contact with the live terminal, not uncommon when performing maintenance.

i understand that.  Other than a complete wire harness, I have not seen this part w/ wire sold as as separate item.  I've seen some insulators that bolt on after the wire is attached which I suppose would suffice

yes, you can cut it and use it like the repro piece, sliding it into the alt stud with the eyelet terminal of the wire making the slot
