Hi, I have a 68 Charger with 331 Charger Red Paint and White interior. Just about to apply the white paint to the interior of the door shell. Does anyone have images as to where the masking line should be?
Cheers,
KR
Under the door seal rubber location.
I'd like a reference pic if anyone has one.
Thanks!
Here is mine, I "split" the area where the holes are.
Perfect! Thank you. That's the exact spot I needed to see. My painter had it done like that and I wanted to be sure he was right.
Cheers,
KR
Glad you convinced him Tim! :shruggy:
Here's some originals...

Looks like the $2 an hour line guys were a lot sloppier with the tape mask than my $65/hr current day shop!
I too had to advise my shop where to tape, as different car makers did it different ways. Glad my shop painted a 'Cuda ahead of mine, as I made them correct the other guys car and then do mine right the first time! :yesnod:
IIRC the factory didn't use a paint that perfectly matched the interior vinyl. They used one of their exterior paint shades that year, whichever one was the closest to the vinyl color.

I'm not sure they even used tape. IIRC it was a template that they just held in front of the gun (at least in the middle). Gotta save that money!
On my 70 Challenger's bumblebee stripe they sprayed the stripe color first (pretty much covered the entire back end of the car) so they only had to mask the stripe when shooting the body. Lots of restorations do it the other way around but it's a LOT more work.

How I did the Bee in '88 on it's last paint job. We sprayed most of the tail end white and them masked the stripe for body paint. Applied the Bee decals prior to clear coat. This round I thought I'd do it OEM correct with decal, but kinda wishing I'd done paint again.
