Good evening all, I have a questions concerning the stripe on Charger 500s, were they put on all/most cars regardless of the stripe code or were they pretty true to the fender tags, i.e. V88 stripe delete equaled no stripe on the car?
Thanks in advance, Kevin
You could not get a stripe delete 500. The v88 just meant that the R/T stripe was deleted before the car was converted to a 500.
What he said. The cars began life as RT Chargers on the assembly line so the stripe delete code had to be added in order for the flanks to be clear when they went to Creative Industries for conversion. The 500 stripe was added at their facility.
Thank you, so all of them had a V88 code but came with 500 stripes. Anyway to be sure what color it was? F8 car so I'm guessing white or black.
Thanks again
I've read that they only came in black or white. There is no way to tell what was original unless you can find a remnant of it.
There was a black 500 for sale a few years ago where the owner insisted that the car was bought new without a stripe on it. I never followed up on it, but I suppose a dealer could have removed it before sale.
And of course the stripe delete, Creative adding 500 stripes thing is what lead to the discussion a few years back about bezels being body color and not stripe color.
It kind of makes you wonder too.... at what point down the assembly line would the non-stripe R/T badge have been installed? I know they were not installed on the potential Aero cars... but I wonder if some of the early 500's may have accidentally had an R/T badge installed on the quarter before being sent to Creative. Just kicking around a few random thoughts.

My C500, which was built in the 1st patch of 6 has the holes for the R/T badges clearly seen and still was a V88 stripe delete car. The 2 holes have filler bondo worms growing out of them..
Widely known and believed fully built RT with stripe delete would then have emblem removed at CI. By easiest means as they are slicing and dicing to make back window, etc is cutting the speed nuts off. Car I sold years ago had bond pushed though holes just like Troys and my car I have now does too. In cleaning out my car after I bought it years back found the cut off nut on the stud in the 1/4 between trunk extension. That was neat.
Was this the norm on all 500s (removed R/T badges), or at some point did they stop putting the R/Ts on the cars that would become a 500? I have only worked on one 500, but someone put quarter skins on it at one point.

Hmm, excellent question. :scratchchin:
I don't think all C500's left the assembly line with R/T emblems in them.. I think that was a situation for the earlier 500's built.. I have owned 4, but I don't believe all of them had holes........
My 914 SPD had the holes (quarters replaced now but the guy I bought it from saved the original piece from the passenger side), his is a Nov 20 SPD and it has holes as well in the original quarters.
I have 3 and only one of them has the holes from the R/T quarter badge

what's the SPDs on them with holes VS. without?
I can check a 69 500 near me for holes
I'm pretty sure both of my 500's have the holes filled in. Now I'll have to double check :2thumbs:
