Title: Heater core question
Post by: tucknroll on October 16, 2022, 07:15:35 AM
Hey guys, I have a 69 ac car that needs a new heater core.  Is it possible to change it without removing the whole box? I did that on my 98 Dakota and don't ever wanna do it again.  Thanks

I would doubt it, based on the reassembly of my '69 Charger.
That was many years ago though and the ol' grey matter is slowly diminishing

No ,  its a pain  :icon_smile_blackeye: , will have to remove the whole A/C heater box , & it heavy & awkward , remove centre console , also  front seats for room , glove box liner

Shouldn't I be able to drive it with the heater box out if it takes a week or 2 to get back in?

Guess that will depend on how many seats and console you pull out

Yes the car will work without the box in the car

Do I have to unhook the ac where it goes in the firewall to pull the box out?

yes, if it has a Freon charge in it, must be evacuated first
