Title: How do the front bumper brackets come off.
Post by: Mo Power on February 23, 2008, 11:09:52 PM
I was wondering if theres a bolt on the inside that needs to be taken off to get the whole bracket off or it's a welded nut inside the frame? Need some help

There is no nut to remove, just remove the 4 3/4" bolts (2 per side).

there is a nut welded inside,be careful not to break it loose like I did. now I have to fish it up into the frame to put the bolt through it.Welded to a welding stick.

Ya well thats what happened to my 73 because I undid the bolts and it wouldn't come undone so I assumed it was not welded nut. But ya I broke the welded nuts on my 73 then  :brickwall:.

That sucks.  I have never had one break and ive taken a few stubborn ones off with the impact, never had a problem.

And well I hate to try on my Runner because those brackets are rusted to hell and I bet the nuts inside arent any better.

Just spray some PB Blaster on all the nuts front/back the night before and you shouldn't have any problems. Don't forget to hit the six bolts on the bumper because they will most likely be the nuts which are rusted on.

Might want to order a valance nut kit before you start the job. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/68-69-Dodge-Charger-front-valance-bolt-kit-bolts_W0QQitemZ190201811592QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item190201811592

Do the 3/4 bolts last, when they are out the bumper will start to drop fast and you don't want the other smaller bolts to have to support that weight or the valance or splash guards etc. getting in the way.  :Twocents:
