Title: Daytona's Without Noses?
Post by: WingCharger on May 25, 2009, 02:13:12 PM
For a while now, I have been looking for pics of Daytona's without a nose cone. The idea of building one with a stock style front Charger grille keeps growing on me, especially after seeing this pic of Brock's Charger. :drool5:

The '69 Charger grille is my favorite grille ever put on a muscle car, and the idea of covering one up keeps losing its value. :scratchchin:
I know there is Duketona, but that is all I have been able to find...and it doesn't have a plug. :icon_smile_big:

So, anybody have pics, or opinions?

YES!! :drool5:

Except, besides the nose, it would be all Daytona. A-Pillar trim, plug, wing, jack, etc.
Not sure about fender scoops though... :scratchchin:.

Add some Magnum 500's, paint it blue, add a white stripe, and that is my dream car. :icon_smile_big:

Hhhmmm...I don't know. :scratchchin:

Oh, I forgot about the side pipes. Can't forget the side pipes. :icon_smile_big:

Not having a nose would keep the engine cooler too. :yesnod:

Go all the way or don't do it at all. :slap:

Doing a Daytona without a nose is like getting half a sex change... :brickwall:

Boobs and balls don't belong on the same body  :eek2:

If you don't do the nose, scoops and plug, then it's just a Charger with a Daytona wing.
That's sort of the conclusion that I came to when deciding on my build. That and it didn't look good for a guy that's building wingcars to not build his own wingcar correctly. I love the front end of the 69 Charger and psychologically it wasn't easy removing it and storing it away.

Im thinking it might be the IRS hemi daytona .It was on here wearing a 70 charger front clip.I recall seeing in a old newsletter about a daytona wrecked with a all 1969 charger front clip .

no offense HotRod but I just dont see the appeal of a wing without the nose.  :shruggy:

the high wing is really complimented by the down sloping nose. Of course this is just my opinion.  :yesnod:

Oh, and about the jack. It would be safer than the normal Charger jack anyway. :icon_smile_big:

But, people remember the wing long after they've forgotten about the nose.
The wings, to me, are works of art while the nose cones are bulky looking and just don't compliment the car. The wings flow with the body lines and appear to have been designed by an artist/aerodynamic engineer but the nose looks like it's an afterthought built by a sheet metal shop the day before the car was to go into production.
No offense intended to anyone.  ;D

Sure. And we can call my 71 Cuda the HILLBILLIE CUDA, and my other 71 Cuda the HILLBILLIE CUDA 2, and my 73 Cuda, the HILLBILLIE CUDA 3, and my 70 Cuda, the HILLBILLIE CUDA 4 and my Daytona clone, the HILLBILLIE TONA, and my 68 Roadrunner, the HILLBILLIE RUNNER. We'll find good names for the rest of my cars as we build them. The cool part is I do live on a hill so it all works out great.
Now let's start calling your project the I DON'T SEE IT EVER GETTING FINISHED TONA.  ;D

Maybe I shouldn't throw stones. That name sort of fits my HILLBILLIE TONA.  :cryin:

I hate to admit this but my funny car back in the 70's was called "Hillbilly Heaven". I can't find any pics of the car with the logos on it right now, but the hillbilly had a straw hat and had straw hangin out of his mouth. He was kind if kicked back and had a jug sitting next to him.
Kind of looked like the Jungle Jim character on JJ's funny car. JJ was my hero back then.

the back in the day picture for me sums this all up!

the nosed Allison Daytona is sooo much better looking than the winged charger.

The wing on the charger at the drag stip is just :brickwall:

I think the traditional six pack scoops look good on Chargers.
As for who owns these cars...I have no clue. I probably found most of these pics right here on this site. I copy everything that I think is interesting.
I have thousands of pics that I have catagorized and in some cases sub-catagorized. Great reference material. It helps a lot when I have customers that don't know exactly what they want to do their cars.

I thought long and hard about a wing on my 69 charger, but i couldn't bring myself to do it, partly because, style wise it doesn't quite work for me, the wing is too vertical against the standard d post.

Because i want a wing so much, i bought a 70 roadrunner as my next project. Thats gonna get a wing. Nothing else, just a wing (and restoring of course) The Superbird wing is laid back more and looks better against the runner roofline. But im not really a fan of the nose.

My wife tends to agree with you. She insisted that I put one of our bird wings on her 69 runner. The 70 full boogy clone comes later...according to her plan.
