It's kinda cool for me to look at that.

Of course it's not the correct year at all.

But looking at that sorta makes you see the General Lee through the eyes of people in 1979 before it was such an icon.  That's what the GL was.  An old musclecar with some 70's bolt-ons and an amateur dirt track racer paintjob.

And it reminds me of some of the early GL toys that were modeled after off-year Chargers.

Im sure i read here on DC that a few third gen's were used for the DOH series? I prefer the 69's as DOH cars  :Twocents:

No, never a single 3rd-gen Charger doing GL duty on "Dukes."  Only tons of 68/69 Chargers, all with '69 grill dividers & taillights.

The closest thing to a 3rd-gen Charger on "Dukes" was several 1971-74 Plymouths they used as Daisy's Roadrunner in the first couple of seasons.  And there were a few more 73-74 Plymouth 2drs later used as guest-star cars.

Thanks for clearing that up Mike  :2thumbs: to be honest, i didnt believe it whn i read it i just thought if it were true, then it would kinda make the third gen DOH legit. Now that i think about it, i may have read it on that "other"
mopar forum

I think I had a 3rd gen GL matchbox/hotwheels as a child.  :scratchchin:

I would bet that this is the Hot Wheel you are thinking of.

Not bad. I think most people are just used to the second-gen car. But really if you think about it, had the producers of the show picked a 3rd gen for the Lee, we'd all be saying today how odd a 2nd gen General looks.

It does look like a good job.

Remember those Playstation Dukes games. One was "Running for Home" I think. The GL in those PS games looked like a 3rd gen Charger.

Very very true... I often imagine if they used another car... A Vette? A Mustang? A Chevelle??

Here's a recent 3rd-gen GL imitation that turned up in a Bojangles commercial:

The earliest Playstation Dukes video game had a correct 69 during the actual gameplay, but for some reason the game's animatics were all using a 73/74 Charger for the GL model:

Early GL toy from 1981.  Looks like they started with a 3rd-gen Charger to model and then hastily carved some 2nd-gen details onto it when they figured out it was the wrong year:

The boys at HLPG (??) in Northern IL, started to do this to 71's - 74's about 2 years ago. They were selling them for $13k.  Never heard anything good about these guys though...
