Title: Light Socket Solution Idea
Post by: dpixel on August 06, 2010, 08:45:08 PM
Typical Rotted bulb socket.  $2.99 generic replacement

Honed out the inside with a 1/2" round stone drill bit in my drill press to fit the diameter of the new socket. And used a 1/2" round file to make room for the bulb pin slots in the new socket.  Then peened the existing socket to the new one and fluxed and soldered like plumbing.

Spliced new wires and siliconed the socket back and used heatshrink polyo tubing on the splice and installed.  :2thumbs:
Note: Clean all surfaces before soldering and take out wires and gasket before applying heat.
Process makes a good ground too.
