I agree. Time and money is always the hard part. I am bringing Charger #2 down off of the hoist and going to start hot and heavy and the metal work soon.
HEY HEY, I'VE got something this time!
I was swapping factory heads/manifolds to go with Edelbrock rpm's and dougs headers, and decided to finally look into my trans leak behind the converter that has pestered me for the last 2 years. Dropped the pan and was shocked at all the clutch material under the filter, and decided to rebuild it, since 727's are "babies first trans rebuild" for difficulty. So, now i have a minty stock-rebuild 727 slung back into the car, but to fit the trans jack and trans under, i had to jack up the car and engine together further from the ramps its on, slide it under, and lower each down slowly to not torque the motor mounts. This week its back on the top end, intake/sniper reinstall, but will also be relocating fuel lines, i want to run up the firewall instead of to the front and bend back. Will be doing that before the headers install to give plenty of arm clearance before finishing the job.
Slowly working on mine, but increasingly more as I approach retirement in 2026 and finish it after I retire. Now have Legendary Interiors bucket foam, all upholstery, and headliner sitting in my library/office. I purchased the carpet set when I was at a Pate Swap meet a long time ago. I will probably purchase a new vinyl top from Legendary later this year. The original one looks fine, but it is drying out. Almost have everything for refreshing the cylinder heads. Supposedly, there is a very good machine shop near downtown Savannah. I'll have to pay them a visit.
Purchased it in 1985. I am owner #3 and owner #2 didn't have it for long.

Biding my time here, healing up from a trashed left ankle. It's been really nice here for the last few days and my thoughts always turn towards a nice drive in my car. Was just at the sawbones yesterday and will still need crutches for at least the next 30-days (so...the clutch-option is out for a while yet). I'm also facing the expense of new rubber this spring, i.e. the next big hurdle.
Haven't done anything in a while except buy the script emblems for the roof at Carlisle. Someone had a box of them for $10 each so I snagged a pair. In the last few years I've spent a fortune on my son's college & the repairs on my house. The $20 blew my annual car parts budget...LoL :smilielol:
Other than a prepped 440 short block ready for swap out on my 70 I'm done doing what I will do, my kids can take it to a higher level. I've blacked out the hood and installed a non factory flip top gas cap just because it suits me. :scratchchin:
Ironically, I was just finally approved as a member of the board after months of waiting (and years of lurking) ... just after I sold my cherished '70 500 (https://bit.ly/70charger) after almost 27 years of ownership.
I built it with my dad and grandfather as a daily driver with a stroker small block and cruiser gears. It was tough to let it go knowing I'll never have another vehicle will all the memories.
My plan was to offer it for sale to this group first but, alas, it's gone now. I miss it, but it's in a better home where it won't just sit in the shop any longer.
I suspect the reason activity has dropped off is that these cars are just plain difficult to find at an attainable price in workable condition. I know the project I took on 27 years ago would cost me triple now.

I have owned mine for about 39 years. Kind of lost interest in it but trying to get back into it. Last week, I took off the rear carb because the fuel inlet and float bowl screw were leaking. Fixed that. At the same time, decided to stagger the left jet in the rear carb. I have the Promaxx Jettable plates in the outboard carbs. Running better (not as rich) on my AEM gauge. It has been pouring rain here so I can't take it for a ride. Next week it looks like no rain.
My cars are on hold until I get my Garage rebuilt. Leon.

I love everything about them....driving, washing, showing and just looking at them. I have never seen another car that I'd rather own. I'm a lifer. The money from the sale of them would just get spent buying another car that I probably wouldn't like as much.
I need motivation!!! Have accumulated most of what I need to go from 318/ 904 to 440/727. It's been a while since I pulled a motor and trans, so I am a bit apprehensive. I wish I had a Mopar guy near me in CT to assist and for experienced advice.
The car is really nice with around 50k on the clock, so fortunately it dosn't need any other work.

I've been that way. I've had all the stuff to do some project but I'll sometimes hesitate to go forward with it....THEN
I just jump in and steamroll my way through until I am finished.
It just takes a little push to get moving, sometimes from within, sometimes from humiliation from "friends".
I haven't owned a Charger since 2006 when I sold my 73 charger se. 465 c.i. 440 727 8.75 4.10 gears. Owned it for 10 years. I have owned many Chargers in my life with my first car being a 73 400/727/3.23 bought in 1981. In between I had

Agreed. I have had one of mine 34 years and 232,000 plus miles and 15 years for the second Charger. My goal is to some day have all 3. 68, 69 and my two 70's.
I drive mine just to keep it from self destructing from sitting. The bondo is falling out and slowly gathering electrical issues as I gather the miles. She needs rehab. Maybe one day.

I think Facebook groups is where most people go these days to talk chargers. I miss the old days when this place had a dozen new topics a day. Facebook is really easy to upload pictures to, and if you have a question about something you can usually get an answer within a few minutes. If I ask something here, sometimes it takes a few days to get a reply.
I have been working on my charger every chance I get. Working on sanding the inside of the trunk and need to scuff the engine side of the firewall so I can get everything painted body color. The previous owner decided to half ass a lot of things so I'm slowly trying to undo all of the butchery. It's going to be a fun driver when its done. 69 charger, 383/727, floor shift, AC. Originally red with white top and white interior. The top and interior are still white but the previous owner painted it a dark blue metallic color. I like it but its not a factory mopar color which bugs me. One of these days ill more than likely go back exactly how it was on the fender tag. Its numbers matching. Still has the original wheels, carb, air cleaner, spare tire, bumper jack, build sheet, etc. So it will be an excellent fendertag/build sheet restoration car.

Food for thought, just one cylinder (55 cubes) in a 440 cubic inch engine is equal to the complete displacement of a Honda CBX 900. Think about that the next time you look at a hot Subaru or a Honda. No wonder I have a hard time getting worked up about the rice racers.

I only have a measly 4.503 cylinder bore.
Since finishing up my G3 Hemi swap, my car gets driven about once a month. It runs great and is a fantastic cruiser. Don't have much else planned for it so it sits in my garage with my other project cars.

I've been working on mine as much as possible but unfortunately work and life is getting in the way. I took off 3 weeks at Xmas planning to spend 1 with family 2 with the car but did i get that wrong ! Not a bad thing but the 69 got less attention but managed to get the running gear back in & back on all fours for the first time in 7 years

Thanks guys. Yes those are the new style American Racing VN47 wheels in 15x7 front and 15x8 rear that have the DOH 01 Special Edition stamped into the rear of the wheels.
The color (green) has grown on me since I purchased this car in 2020. I typically would not have owned that combo with white interior, but being the original color scheme it has definitely grown on me.
I'm the 2nd owner of the car and the original owners are still alive and I keep in contact with them frequently about the car.

I bought my charger in July of 1999. These last several years from 2017 up until now I have just driven the car mostly on the weekends when the weather is good. In 2017 I pulled the engine and resealed the rear main and replaced the 346's with a set of prepped stealth heads. Since then I have replaced the alternator and the starter. Pretty sure the battery crapped out in 2021. Just minor stuff and lately the driver side motor mount broke apart and even broke the bolt that was all the way through the mount. Over time the 4 speed finally got the best of the motor mount, lol. With the new mount and a freshened up carburetor and a new coil and module box hopefully I can cruise around awhile before I have to work on it again
Update from the south.... of Ontario Canada: Edelbrock Heads installed and torqued down, 727 Rebuilt, back into the car. headers installed after fighting angels and demons not knowing the full process... in and out, starter back in, and fighting to get to the starter bolts, were not how i expected to spend 6 hours on the weekend LOL. But, its all done and installed. next is the new Hyperspark module, dizzy, and coil, front accessories back on, oil change and trans fill, before i can prep for a drive around the block again.

Super agree with you on that. with the back-catalog of amazing threads on here i was able to completely do my 68, having never touched a mopar until i got my pile o parts (only other vehicle was a 78 gmc shortbed). I still search the older threads for amazing info that has saved so much time over the last few years.
I am coming up on 3 years of silence with mine. After 1 year I bought the complete harness for it with intentions of tearing out the interior. But first have to build a 30x50 detached garage as the little home garage ain't cutting it! So delayed another 9 months. Once it was built and could move in last spring, I got the doc telling me I need surgery for a precancerous mass? F**k me! Got everything moved in before surgery and once that shit happened it took away some of my drive to get thing done. Now I am on the mend and SLOWLY back at it with windshield out and vinyl top off. I have changed the shocks and hope to pull the interior by the end of the month...sucks getting older. Age 56 has not been good so far!

Loading pictures here has been a problem here for years & the last upgrade has only made it worse. This is probably one of the major reasons that this site is dying a slow death.
I found the "upgrades" have actually helped with the pictures. You can now post the same picture more than once without having to rename them. You can "insert" them where you want in each post instead of them just ending up at the end of text as a default. This allows a story to be told with what feels like captions in between the pictures. I'm impressed with the change but it took me awhile to learn how to enlarge them. It isn't intuitive, I had to ask how to do it. I enjoy my time here but it feels like my own situation around my town. Fewer enthusiasts around to chat with.....they are out there in smaller numbers and further away. It bothers me to think the site is fading away. I never saw it as the absolute best site online but I did and still do enjoy reading about other people's projects, their discoveries, Tan Tops pictures are fantastic too....
For myself I absolutely despise facebook for specific groups like Chargers & many others. Algorithms deciding what I need to see sucks, posts disappear, & searching for something is a nightmare. Individualized topics & forums don't exist so if you want to read about an engine upgrade it'll be posted with a photo of what someone ate for breakfast.
It is a shame that the traffic here has slowed but I think the way Troy has this site set up is fine. :cheers:

I'm willing to bet it's private due to spam, fake accounts & similar. Dave (Brock Samson on here) runs a Charger group on FB & is constantly chasing fakes & spammers out.
I still keep having picture issues. I just never try to post pictures anymore.

It takes a few weird steps but at least you can repost the same picture without having to rename it. The size limitations make it so I can't post pictures directly from a phone due to their size being too big.
Working on other hobby projects is fun but I finally have some work lined up on my Charger! I just received my driver's side bucket seat track/bracket from Classic Industries. Since I finished the resto, the seat track has been messed up, it only holds on one side unless you get down there with a screwdriver due to the spring being shot and one of the bearings not rolling as it should.
Ill take some pics when I install that because I plan on playing around with washers under the fronts of the tracks to gain some more reclining action.
I also got my seals for my Strange S60 that has been slowly leaking for 2 years.

I need to try and get my 71 out this year. My life has been a POS for about 9 years and the last 4yrs been rough due to a ugly divorce. I am broke and been working a lot. My fire for hobbies has went out. My Mopars and old antique radio hobbys are just sitting. I get up go to work come home and sit on my ass til bedtime and repeat. Every once in a while I may do something involving a hobby. Sadly I am turning into that guy with the stuff sitting outside sinking into the ground gonna restore it someday.............but wont sell.

It's been quite some time since I've been reading this forum regularly, largely because I've been distracted with an overwhelming number of smaller projects. Very sad to see it's not so active right now. This place is the library of Alexandria for Charger info, much prefer it to facebook.
Poor charger is buried under a pile of parts but it's in a dry heated garage. Project was kinda stalling out, I had a long list of "while the engine is out" tasks that I was struggling to tackle. A few months back I said screw this, if I don't keep making progress it's never going anywhere so I dropped the motorhome 440 in. Planning to make an ambitious push to get it on the road this summer. TV shows like Roadkill and Roadkill Garage have shown us that these cars can still be cool to own even if they are ratty looking. They look like nothing made today. They sound and perform differently too. We can throw stuff together and enjoy them without beautiful paint and gleaming chrome.
My thoughts exactly. I'm building this car on a shoestring budget. It's a plane jane triple green, 2 barrel 383 that was almost rusted in half when I got it four years ago. It's structurally sound now and sporting a 4 speed. Still need to do the quarters but i'll do them once it can yard drive. It'll be a lot easier to stay motivated if it's a drivable car. Should be on the road for under 20k all in.
that is what i love about this hobby. all the work, and at the end you have "a thing!" something you can use forever, or sell if you need to, *shudders*. plus, the work on the car is enjoyable too. slightly related, i got into target shooting/firearms years ago, and going to the range with family was great at first, but slightly costly for ammo. Then i got into reloading as well to save money, and enjoy that WAY too much as well, spending hours cleaning/prepping for the next range day is cathartic.
