I want to paint my engine the correct color of hemi orange, it is a 1971 383 Magnum. I picked up Street Hemi Orange form Mopar Performance and the orange does not have the red in it like the engine has now. It is more of a muted orange almost looks faded . What are you guys using Race Hemi Orange or somthing else?
Thanks for the help.
I've heard that Mopar paint leaves much to be desired. In a spray can most people like Plastikote. (Plasticoat?) It's closer to the right color and covers better as well. Here's a link to a related topic on another board, hopefully it's ok to do that?

I would suggest TOTALLY AUTO..... I know they have a web site. I believe they have the closest color that you would be looking for.
I would see if anyone else has advice but I know they do a pretty good job with there paints.
I used paint from a company called Bill Hirsch and got it from Hughes Engines. I am sure you can get it elsewhere. I am happy with the way the color turned out.
The plasti-kote paint was hard to find. One place 20 miles away had 1 can. It is a much better match in color then the MP stuff. They were ordering another few cans. The one thing I noticed on the MP Street Hemi orange is that it matches the Dual Snorkel Air Cleaner better the plasti-kote Chrysler Orange. I had posted a while back about the color difference between the Air Cleaner and engine being different shades of orange.
Thanks for the help.
Totally Auto or MoPaints are the only ones with the corrrect formulas. There are links to both at my site www.69hemi.com (http://www.69hemi.com)
