Post by: jwilk01 on September 27, 2006, 09:50:04 AM
Is there any good ones around the north or central areas?

:haha: funny, but not really true.  I`m more prone to buying complete parts cars. I do junkyard a lot but primarily for the purpose of buying non mopar items for resale. Sometimes, i do find some mopar goodies but not with great frequency.
what are you looking for? i might be able to steer you in the right direction.

The best thing to do is drive into/around smaller rural towns. Dont drive anything too nice or dress too well (that will double or triple the prices)
In the past, several  junkyards here in the Atlanta area have told me "we don`t have much as far as mopars, some feller from Alabama buys everything we get"........that "feller" being Ted Stephens.

There was one in Waynesboro, but it's got a couple strikes against it now.  1) The public is no longer allowed to "browse"  2) The propietor is crazy.

You own the yard?

Can you tell us more about it and what type of Mopars you have.  Some pictures would be cool.   :yesnod:

I get down to the Carolinas once in awhile, maybe I'll stop by and spend some money.

Both points 1 & 2 seem to be the case with most yards I stop at!   :yesnod:   :rotz:

I see these pics from yards and i wonder why the cars are not taken better care of?..  :-\

they are parked at off angles all over the place with the windows down or smashed out, hoods 'n trunks open,.. right out in the open,
i would think they'd be up on blocks not axel deep in the mud,.. and covered to detour further deterioration...

i can see if they have been vandalised, or they're like basket cases to begin with, but when they seem to have some future potental as project cars or are otherwise rare and/or have good glass and parts why treat them like 20 year old hondas?..  :shruggy:
at least park them in some sort of order...

maybe someone with more experiance can enlighten me...  ???

This is what a "backwoods georgia" junkyard looks like.  This is how i remeber them looking in the mid 80's.

I used to work at a junk yard and I can tell you why... LAZY!!!!!  :icon_smile_dissapprove:It takes time and even if you put them up they will just sink again, these guys are out to make a buck and they just dont care about the cars! Some of em are starting to wise up and pull stuff out of the mud.

My Buddy told me about a Junkyard in Alabama full of Mopars. Sez one was a 69 Charger with tree growing out of Engine compartment. I go look & sure enough 10 foot tree  :o growing between grill & core support & bumper, bigger tree got more Damage spreading these parts apart. This was back in 1990. Fast forward 10 years later & I see the Charger now gone & coincedently every mopar spot was empty/gone but every non mopar car still left intact & there not moved. Must have been Stephans Clearing the Place out?? :'( ??? Also my Buddy takes me to another Mopar Collectors house. Seems he lined his house with a Fence made out of old 60's early 70's Mopars. Starting from the street on one side, around back yard & on the other side Mopar made Car Fence. Tells me that last car parked on end (the 70 roadrunner) he just picked up. Seen at Junkyard ready to get Crushed into little flattened box. Junkyard said they get $50.00 for the Scrape metal, He sez I'll give you $50 now dont Crush. They say OK & now sitting in his front yard as a Lawn ornament is a nice solid Rustfree 70 Roadrunner bought for $50.00. This was back in 1990. Bet you cant do that now :'( :icon_smile_dissapprove: LEON

Yes I used to Keep all my cars set up on blocks 20 yrs ago. but I crushed 1800 cars in 1988 and cleared it out. [Big mistake] had many cudas Roadrunners others had a 70 440 6 pac cuda. 69 R/T SE charger with a sunroof. and a 69 Road runner Hemi body and many more rare ones?. but they were worthless then as parts cars. and I had to get rid of them all as I was in with someone else. then in 90 91 I started getting some cars back but its just me now and its alot of work by yourself doing this plus working reg job and tring to finish my own projects. I have around 800 or more cars now. try keeping this many cars in the dry. most are junk anyway. I do try to keep them together. Most of my mopars are together. then I have a camaro Trans am section and a GTO Chevelle section. and a ford section. and a Scrap metal section 1984 up. I am putting some on ebay as I get them pulled out and moved to another part of my land. and all new cars I get in I usually put on ebay as soon as I get them to see if they sell before I start parting them out or cutting them up.  Here is my Ebay name if you want to keep and eye out for them  [ Sixpak71 ] . and heres my zip to see where I am 28690 Valdese NC . Sorry the 70 coronet is not a conv I sold the roof off it.
