Title: curious
Post by: poppa on September 30, 2022, 10:00:57 PM
Hey all , In the fsm it will show the plug wire routing and the position of the distributor cap with the wires going in their order. Just for s*$ts and giggles , say it says #1 should be at 12 o'clock , IF everything else is correct ,could a guy put #1 at the 3 o'clock position ? If the dizzy was dropped in correctly and tdc  in the magic spot. Thanks

If you put the distributor into the engine block 1/4 turn out and put the wires on the cap 1/4 way around also the engine would still run the same if the engine is at tdc

You are going to have to pull the oil pump drive gear up and turn it also to get the notch turned so the distributor will drop in

everything will match if oil pump drive is:

for big Block:

for small block:

now, what is true is this will make the rotor point out correctly to the #1 on cap OR 180° off. Setting cam and crank gears point facing point and if you didn't turn the crank, will set the compression stroke pointing out to the 6th cylinder, being #1 on exhaust.
