Title: turning a 70 into a 69
Post by: 200MPH on March 15, 2017, 06:34:13 PM
I was wondering how hard is it to swap in the 69 steering column into a 1970 along with the 69 style  key in the dash  no I'm not building a General Lee :2thumbs:

As long as you have a 69 dash and steering column it's just a matter of switching the parts .

get the proper rivets from ECS & install the correct VIN that belongs to the body on the new dash frame.

I guess I should explain one more, I'm making the inside of my 70 to like a 69. I want to move the key to the dash and I want 69 vinyl dash pads in place of the 70's  plastic..

You could certainly shop around for a bare 68-69 dash frame for any B body AND then just cut and section out the ignition lock cylinder portion.

Does the Plastic /vinyl dash upper and lower parts swap out ?

68 dash pads come to a point over the heater controls
69 and 70 are the same and are just straight across above heater controls

I was just wondering if the 2 pieces vinyl in plastic mounted up the same.. on the 70 - did just cover up the keyhole?

Yes i think they will fit both cars the same way
Not sure if the key hole is cut into the 70 metal dash frame though

Glove box door is different for 70 vs 69
70 opens down and 69 opens up

68 and 69 Chargers are more prone to auto thefts with the ignition not in the steering column.  :Twocents:

the 4 way flasher switch is in the dash on a 69, it's in the column on a 70.....so the entire dash wiring harness will need to be swapped out as well......along with the instrument cluster bezel

There's also the fact that more people want to steel a 68-69 than a 70 too

Just so they can turn it into a General Lee
