Title: Wingcars that were used in movies
Post by: nascarxx29 on October 29, 2007, 07:09:32 PM
I found this internet data base of wingcars etc mopar or any make car your search that might have been in a movie old and new.Found the background story on the Joe Dirt movie car.Which I know was built by Pat Mc Kinney after he aquired the car with winged parts from Jim Radke. Also the blue superbird seen briefly in the warehouse of Gone in 60 Seconds was Pat Mc Kinneys aswell
http://www.imcdb.org/yourcomments.php?search=superbird

They were movies called and picture clips showing the mexican 2001 and clockstoppers which had wingcars in them. And the movie called unknown from 1974 seems to be the supercharger with a funeral decal

the 'darkling' was a USA made-for-tv movie about some demon controlling people through a restoration shop...featured a tor red bird that, when crashed, was a '69 coronet.

the made-for-tv movie/series Viper had a B5 bird in it

there's a black 'bird in the car hop in dazed and confused

what was the name of the movie (direct to video) that features a lemon twist four speed car???

If I'm not mistaken the Superbird is shown 2 times in the movie, with both shots at the same dinner, but its in the background another time I think. Maybe not the whole car, but maybe just the wing?

There is a micro second flash of a red winged car at speed on the salt flats in the beginning of The World's Fastest Indian.

Good and sad movie story.  In 1995 here in Seattle they (Big Break Films) used my Superbird in a movie named "Expert Witness"  It was to star Charles Naiper (Judge in Philadelphia with Tom Hanks).  They used the car for about 6 weeks on call.  A friend Ray got the car in the movie and was shown the edited product without sound and that is the last anyone has seen or heard of it.  Here are some pictures taken during the shooting.  If anyone hears or knows of the please let me know as it has not been released so far to my knowledge.  It is sitting somewhere in a can as I saw the amount of MONEY that was spent making it.  Enjoy the pictures.

The Superbird In Dazed & Confused is an original B5 440 6BBL Automatic car owned by a friend from the Austin, Texas area.  BTW SBBob, Ken has mentioned having met and spoken with you about the similarities of your car and his (other than the Hemi/wedge difference  :icon_smile_wink:)... I believe that it was in Las Vegas.

Here are a few pictures of Ken's Superbird in Dazed & Confused, and at a San Antonio Mopar Meet after being repainted B5 Blue...

BTW, Ken has joined the forum and generally lurks without posting... maybe this would be a good time for an intro... hope that's not throwing you under the bus my friend...  :icon_smile_big:

(Note: The second pic is an enhanced version of the first pic.)

:ahum:     Dave, you knew about Ken and his Superbird long before your visit to Austin... mentioning it several times on Moparts postings.  You "found" Ken's car while wandering around the secluded neighborhood where his parents live?... In that small garage with a tiny window...  :shruggy:  If so, you are a darn good scout...

Yes, I remember running into Ken in Vegas.  It has been several years since my Superbird has been there.  Lately have been taking the 70 Fury Ragtop to Vegas as don't get the top down here in Seattle much.  Looking forward to saying hi to him again - will be on the look out for him.  Also if anyone has info on where BIG BREAK FILMS went to or on the car wrangler Shawn Conway give me a shout.  I know the film is just sitting in a can somewhere on a shelf.  Thanks, SBBob

Thanks AGAIN!  You guys are much better at finding things on the internet.  I think I have a mental block with it.  I called BIG BREAK FILMS and got an answering machine - left a message and hope to hear back from them.  I know the film was complete except for the sound as my friend Ray had the opportunity to view it, and was told they would let us know when it was done.  Hope to find out more soon!  Would be great to see the movie myself and the cars.  My friend Wayne's 70 Cuda ragtop was driven by Charles and he was the bad guy. The girl played the cop and used the Superbird to chase him down.  Here are some pictures of Wayne's car.

Alan Geiger, in New Mexico, had (has?) a SuperBird with several small "ears" welded to the nose.  Alan claimed that the ears were attachment points for a movie camera, and his SuperBird was a camera car for Vanishing Point.  This was in the mid-late 70's.  I never saw any documentation, so I might just be spreading a rumor, but I suppose it's possible... :shruggy:

Actually I believe that the car was thought to be originally a police interceptor in new mexico ,and those tabs were originally for a push bar the car originally wore.Mind you not from the factory.  -Matt

IIRC, New Mexico 'Bird police interceptor had the pivoting headlamps removed and inset headlights installed, Geiger's car definitely still had the retractors.
