I have been working on this car almost two years now . Not made a ton of progress but it is progressing slowly . Collecting parts here and there as i can . Buying the car and building the motor and installing it set me back cash wise . The slow economy has not helped either . Cuda ken was going to make a daytona out of it before he got frustrated with janak and his slow production procedures. He did at least put fenders and had the wing setting on it at one point .
:shruggy: whats the red one for in the parking lot then?
Then he restored it red as an R/T clone instead. Now i'm making it into a daytona again .

Yep, that's it.
I remember going to CudaKen's place of work (he never liked to mention where it was), where that engine with the blower was sitting back in the corner under a tarp. He was a little worried that it would sprout legs, and if you saw the neighborhood the building was in, you'd agree with him. :o
If Troy could bring back one thread from the old D-C.com site, I wish it was the "Three Chargers in the Shop" thread. That was a classic...

No idea I never met the guy just got the pictures when i bought the car . I purchased the car from Moparhound (lonnie ) my buddy here on the board. He purchased it from old cuda ken. Lonnie had it for about a year before he sold it to me .
That blue 68 in the car show pictures belongs to 41husk. I've been in that garage several times and ridden in the Roadrunner. All the stereo equipment was very nice but I can't remember all the brand names (I can probably find out though). I could bring the old "3 Chargers in one shop" thread back but it loses some of it's appeal without the pictures (I don't have those since i only have database backups).

Is Dayclona still in business? I sent a significant deposit to Mike the beginning of September, 2008. I have requested that he call and update me on progress,to no avail lately. Dayclona business phone is disconnected currently, and he is not responding to various e-mails. Does anyone know Mike well enough to get him to contact me? Or is this just Mike's standard operating proceedure for business? Any HELP is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Dave.
I know larry Hotrod was buying a ton of stuff from him back when he was working on his clone ?
Mike has been involved with a major project for someone and has been extremely busy. Multiple cars I beleive.
I talked to him by e-mail just a few days ago. He plans to get started making more parts very soon. He's making a few more parts for me when he does so.
He follows the board pretty closely so I'll bet you hear from him soon. Mike has always been a man of his word.
If you're calling the old number, I'm pretty sure that number was disconnected when he and Gary went their seperate ways.
janak is making the rest of my clone kit and has imformed me that he is ahead of schedule. instead of sometime in march he sad that he should be finishing up w/the kit late this month. he told me he was going tobe very busy w/his construction job since texas got hit w/the hurricane. just a point of interest. i'll send pics as soon as they get here to see what you think.
We were down in Janak's neighborhood this last weekend and I was surprised at how much damage they got all of the way up in Spring. Spring's about 80 miles from the coast.
He'll probably be pretty busy.
I spent sometime living in TX met Ted and Carol and sold him cars and parts in the 80-s.He worked out of his home garage and backyard .I visited him in Spring..Where now hes got a building and his Son Grant is also involved in the parts
:drool5: I guess the super charger was too much for the 440 and for the center of one of the cragers
Lonnie bought it less the motor , and I bought it from lonnie with a HP cop car motor we rebuilt and installed .
lonnie had it for a year and decided it was the time for a new owner . Here is the day I first went and looked at it .
:drool5:
:popcrn: The HP cop car motor I bought from lonnie with the charger remember how nasty it looks cause it wont for long :smilielol:
:drool5: The second 440 is a mobile home motor of mine that has 43k on it and i robbed brackets and other stuff off of. It's a 73 cast crank motor and I almost used it in the car when we got the HP motor apart.
:drool5:
:popcrn: pick up the car day
:drool5: It had one wheel cylinder completely rusted up , so it wouldnt roll we had to drag it everywhere

Dayclona is advertising a new address in Taunton, MA which is where I live. I've been meaning to drive by that address and see what kind of set up he has. I've seen the Dayclona cars at a couple cruises over the past summer as well.
If you don't hear from him soon, I could swing by the address and see what he is up to for you.

:drool5: bottom two shoots are of lonnies survivor 318 car he bought just after selling my my 69
tearing the cop car motor apart lonnie sold me , several of the piston had been eaten away at like it was burning lean for sometime.
cool factory marking of a big P ?
:drool5: 2.2 turbo motor I was building at the time also for my 86 lazer tee top car.
:drool5: cylinder walls were pretty nasty so we had to have it bored 30 over. I really just wanted to tear it apart and clean it up and put it back together for a quick cheap runner. So much for that parts and machine work and labor ran me 3k just for the long block set before carbs and intake .

:drool5: some moron wondering around my yard pulled the pihood pins and left them off keeping my hood latched . My hinges and latch were not on the car. Then a wind storm came and blew my hood about 100 yards and ruied it. Luck I found a nice one for 100.00 bucks .Anyways thats why I had to put the sign in the window to keep morons away from the car .
:popcrn:
The rear seat covers are in great shape. The front buckets where worn so lonnie had already purchased front seat covers and was recovering them when i bought it. I do all my own seat cover upholstery work. I had never covered 69 buckets before but it wasnt hard . Lonnie had already taken them apart though, which meant I had no idea how they came apart and went back together. So i went over to his house to check out a set of green buckets he had to study the workings .
:drool5: my wing again remember it is going to be a daytona someday

hey stuart, i noticed the demon air filter and housing you got. is it thinner than the stock one that you get with the normal holley 6 pack set up. i changed over to demons myself and it is real close to the hood now. don't know if it is going to be a problem when the new fiber superbird hood arrives with the scoops on it. let me know what you think. thanks, steve
i had to go with a thinner filter material and it still doesnt fit well under the stock charger hood .
thanks. has your demons been modified by someone. mine came in one white after market box with blown foam around them for support. i can't remember the guys name that did them. i got them from summit racing. they were new. made a huge difference in the way the car runs.

mine came from jegs and I would never have bought them if i knew how much trouble I would have getting them hooked up. Dont get me wrong they run and perform great. But they were advertised to me as a bolt on replacement , and they are far from that . :Twocents: :Twocents:
a friend of mine got the same one's put on his challenger, they bolted right up-no problems at all-. did not even have to tune them. came allready set from this same place. mine- fuel rail(some issues there) tuning them in(not too bad) other than that- just fine. in fact i may have got mine from jeg's also. just don't remember. way too many parts been ordered and have been received and been put on to keep it all straight. got my headlight motor and front parking lens today. hooray.

Our problems were fuel rail (wrong side) , linkage, kick down & throttle cable . And then getting the air cleaner to fit right with the hood . Those were the major ones . I'ts basically set up for a GM application and as a second thought bary grant figured he could con some mopar guy into using it . Calling it a mopar six pac bolt on replacement . It is not a bolt on replacement you have to do alot of fabricating and modifying. :Twocents:
The carbs then self are so big the center carb we has to shave the mounting point to get it to fit on the factory style intake manifold
barry grant, that's him. i had to cut the orange housing on my 6 pack breather also and put on some gaskets now that you mention it. but oh well, hey it works. the mount i guess is different on a shacker hood. that what my friend has.

Barry Grant is demon carb's . He's the owner !! They are also worthless as far as customer support. THey told me when they would answer the phone . To box then up and ship them back they could not help me or refer me to one of the thousands of shops who just bolted them on and went. , I wish i would have boxed them up !! They had sold thousands of them and i was the only one who complained . Ya right why couldn't they refer me to one of there great speed shop customers who made it work so easy . :smilielol: :smilielol: ok rant over still angry i guess

I hope not , no lack of motivation just cash , oh and there are two seats i just keep alternating them . I was missing one head rest lonnie lost it so he gave me a bench seat one . The post/rods that run down into the seat back are longer on the bench one so I cut it off works just perfectly and fits the same. It doesnt have the same knotches in the rod for a stop when sliding it up and down but I like that it's easy to adjust now.
if you think I repeat picture rene , just wait till i get to the motor and carbs LOL
:popcrn:
The motor looks good . I'm building a similar motor for my challenger . i started with a 73 hp motor . I'm putting the sixpack off the r/t on it. I'm returning the r/t to stock intake and carb .
i have a 74hp motor in my rod . they seem better balanced from the factory then none hp motors . you just have to bump up the compression and let them breath to make them work better . what did you bump the compression up to in that motor? in my rod it' 9 1/2 to 1 . in this motor I'm going with 10 to 1 . I'm building the challenger , like if i built it in the mid 70's .
keep the pics coming . i luv it Rene

Stuart, Great pics.
Seeing your engine go in reminds me. I haven't been driving my 69 runner lately due to the back right header bolt leaking coolant. This is the fresh 383 that I installed this summer. Any idea what the best solution to getting the leak to stop. I've tried the aero gasket sealant that's always worked in the past. I would have loved to have driven the car this last week when the temps were in the 70's. It's such a pain draining the coolant out and pulling that bolt, even on the lift and I don't want to do it over and over. Do they make a high temp teflon tape or something?
Just thought I would ask while I was thinking about it.

it's been very cold and snowy here . i wish it was in the 70's here.i miss playing with my cars. :pity:
This week, it's been in the low 60's and 50's. Too cold to play outside so I have to spend the day building hotrods. Too bad they're not my hotrods. My hotrods just sit there waiting on me to find time for them. ;D
At least the runner that I've been building is starting to look like a car again.
thats your brothers car now rite?
Brother-in-law. It's going to ba an A12 clone. 440 six barrel, 4-speed, leather buckets, magnum 500 rims, cutout style exhaust, modern A/C,
and he wants the car painted black. Gotta work on changing that part of the plan. After painting the daytona clone black, I really don't want to do another black car right away. ;D

The bad news is there is a 70% chance of rain for Friday and 40% for Saturday. That pretty much sums up our experience with shows in the spring in the Branson area. We've never been able to attend a spring show without rain. I cancelled my rooms but still may drive up Saturday morning in the 73 Cuda if the weather forecast improves.

had a guy who really wanted my solid wing bad , he wanted it bad enought hemade me an offer i could nt refuse , just about the time dane was making another run of the hollow ones .
So i sold mine and send dane a big deposit on the hollow one. Now it's ready will post picutres when here .
Moparstuart, I gotta ask you, what is the size of those Cragar Wheels? I don't understand backspacing and offset but I really dig the wide rim look on the rear..

stop changing stuff on yours so you can get to working on mine
Building this black 69 runner has made me dislike black even more. I just had a guy ask me to paint his Camaro black. Of course I said no.
Now I have to work on my color. I didn't like the red that I started with way back when.

Not a bad paint color combo :2thumbs:
Red with a black wing is one of my favorite Daytona combos. Always has been.
It's kind of a shame to change the color on a triple black R/T SE but whoever owns the car after I'm gone can change it back. At least that's the way I look at it. I kept all of the original parts that I removed and the next owner will get them with the car whenever the car is sold.
Like I've said many times..."we don't really own these cars, we're just temporary caretakers".

I resemble that remark.
I'm really not looking forward to sanding that big old car for repaint. I keep telling myself that the black base/clear is just the final coat of primer that needs to be blocked out before the final color goes on. I need to get it into the booth before the next customer car is ready for paint.
I totally forgot about having to remove the engine to repaint the engine bay. :brickwall:
we gotta change the over , under on when his car will be done now

he didn't know . when you bring a car back to the road that has been sitting for a long time , stuff brakes but this car won't stop .
like today . i got it all back together she's running good and holding temp again . i look down at the steering box. looks like the seal's leaking . :brickwall: i've already replaced the power steering pump and hoses .
i'm scared to think wants next . :shruggy:
I miss that car. I knew that I would. It seems strange for it to not be sitting in my shop next to the B5 runner.
After I bought them, I started bringing the runner back to life and went through pretty much the same thing that you're going through with the Bee. The guy that I bought them from hadn't driven them in several years. He would start them up occasionally, but that's not enough to keep them roadworthy. Now when I drive the runner very far in the heat, it wants to vapor lock. It started that in Branson a couple of weeks ago.
And, I still need to install the new tranny and convertor in the runner and add disc brakes. It's always something.
I'll bet you money that I go through this with the Daytona clone once it's finished.

Stuart, who's solid wing is here at my shop? I'm guessing it's Lonnie's. I have it stored with one of my real Superbird wing. They're getting along just fine.

yes that is mopar hounds wing not mine , you have my hatch , my nose brackets ,my wing brackets and my lid close out panel . I think thats all you have of mine .
scored a couple parts this weekend
scored a daytona NOS park light lens , I didnt really need one this nice but I did need just one so I had to have it .
Hemi geno was great to send me a pair of used len's for free . Since i got them for free even tho i would need them someday , when wayne perkins hit a deer a couple years ago in the Hemi 99 daytona I donated one to him for the cause . So now I have replaced it . I had bought a nice set of valiant park light assembles from a friend of a friend buddy deal for 20.00 but they had no len's . Now they are all complete again .
my other great score was a set of head light doors for my daytona clone

I am sorry you are missing it, but I promiss I am taking real good care of it!!!!!
My other buddy stan mcguire from iowa who is also building a daytona clone called me a couple weeks ago looking for wing washers
I had an extra set of the non stamped generic ones like i'm using and he wanted them . He mentioned he had a super nice 70 charger hood so i bought it .
My buddy wayne perkins is headed to Iowa this week to pick up the hood while he is getting his superbird back after some wiring and induction modifications being made at a shop up there . Should have hood pictures soon .
I am also told that stans daytona clone is headed for a body man's shop who is a member here on the board and has daytona experience . Not sure what all stan is having done but look forward to seeing his completed project . He bought a partial project daytona clone out of texas a year or so ago .

well really a long term project still no real money to throw at it untill i sell a car or two . I collect small things here and there as i can afford them .
I did also finally pick up my beat up nose from rick edward when i was in indy a month ago so at least its here now , but loaned out to curt for measuring and soon may be loaded out again to howie for another measuring and nose creation project .
With the bad economy and no extra cash this project has been on the way back burner , but recently parts have been cinda falling in my lap on the cheap or for free so i gathered some of my deals together to get pictures to post. All these parts have come to me in the last couple months . Along with the park lite lens , hood , headlight doors and getting my nose picked up all in the last month . Maybe this project will get done before i kick off.

A health scare like a heart attack will change all of your plans just that quick!
I am sure you have gone over everything in your head many times and made
adjustments. To see the Chargers go I'm sure is a sad moment but if they go
to a good home and get finished will bring you some joy! When I turned 50 I
spent some time trying to figure out what I would actually get done with my
remaining GOOD years? With Linda's encouragement I quit parting out cars
and going to as many swap meets and focused on getting the wing cars done!
We are about half way done. I think it's better than having them set and never
getting finished. Enjoy the BIRDABLE and what ever else you decide to do!

Great, it my have an intermittent short somewhere , we couldnt get it to turn over from the key at all before it left as I told you .
I would guess start at the firewall fuse block plug ? but it may need a whole new dash harness all the harnesses under the hood are brand new , but if its starting thats great .
Sounds like the issue I had with my Challenger.
Tore that thing apart, replacing parts right and left, and of course it turned out to be a bad ground on the ECU that was mounted under the glove compartment. :brickwall:

I sent you many many pictures , answered hundreds of questions and told you this was a restoration project not a turn key driver like you kept telling me you wanted .
plus you had complete access to this thead which has photo documentation of every thing i have dont to the car .
As far as the motor I have told you 20 time its brand new fresh and only has 5 hours run time on it just enough run time for first break in and cam break in . , NO MILES On it at all yet . The car still has the break in oil in it . I sure hope you pre oiled the motor before starting or at the very least oiled the cyinders down . Hopefully you havent damaged a ring or broken one ? I would say it will take at the very least 2000 miles to get the rings to seat and maybe as many as 5000 with the oils we have today and the detergents they have in them so you will most likely see oil residue on the rear of the car and on the rear bumper for a while . While we are on the subject of oil be sure and keep plenty of zink in the oil so you dont wipe out that brand new cam .

I have one winged wonder that will have to satisfy me for now
I just happen to stumble on to this post and boy I do have mixed emotions! While it was never done, I really loved driving her. Best driving Mopar I ever had.
There was a lot of love and time spent on that old Rusted / Trash Charger, that how I happen to use the R/T emblems. Only thing that did not rust was the window glass!
A guy I knew named Dallas called me one day at work one day 28 years ago and said "Hey, you will not believe what we are getting ready to crush! 69 Charger!". I ran down to the scrap yard to take a look.
My god, what a rusted POS she was, but she had 2 things going for her.
1 She was complete! Besides the rusted sheet metal that is. Road wheels, with all the trim rings, lug nuts and center caps, AM / FM Radio with Fad and re verb. Heck it still had the jack, all its parts and its original factory spare tire!
2 She had a 383, I love big blocks!
So I bought the car for $500.00. Later I sold the radio for $600.00.
Here what I dragged home.
The good quarter?

Left front fender. Top of the fenders had rust hole so big, you could drop small children though them!

Believe or not, I bought the Charger for my then 15 year daughter for her first car! :smilielol: She goofed around and did not get her license till she was 18? :shruggy: By then I had the Charger looking real good (Plum Crazy) by then so when she asked for the Keys, I told her tough. Bought her a Road Runner instead, and boy that Road Runner hated her!
Stuart, did you ever get to drive her? I used to travel when I was a area supervisor and the Charger was my daily driver. Bet I put 70,000 miles on her. You get her on a interstate with the 2:76 sure grip, man she would haul!
One day driving to Evansville Ind I looked in the rear view mirror and saw a Tornado heading toward me! Everybody was pulling off the road and heading for shelter! I pulled the Charger down to second and dropped the hammer hit third and cruised at 120 MPH. Old BB was just humming along. Tornado's can't go that fast, well this one couldn't!
I all wise wonder what it would be like driving her on the autobahn would be like? Well at less she will know.
Missing her, Cuda Ken
