I've been driving the car around this summer with the rallyes but I've been missing the bling a little. The rallyes look really small compared to the Centerlines. I plan to eventually buy new rims, possibly Billet Specialties or something similar but for now I'll just settle for the Centerlines.
I've been thinking about switching back to the Centerlines for a while and then switching back and forth as time goes on.
Which rims do you think look better? The beefy 17" Centerlines or the little rallyes?
I may switch them back out before St. Louis this weekend...or I might not. Haven't made up my mind. :icon_smile_big:
The Rallyes look far better IMHO.

I like them both.
I have a set of Magnum 500s and a set of AR Hopsters
I swap them out every now and then to mix it up.
If i'm going to a concorse type show its the 500s if I'm going to a muscle car type show then its the ARs
One set make it look more modern and the other more nastalgic.
I don't think one set is better than the other just different.
If I was selling the car I would go with the origional style.

They both look good. I do like the white letter look though. I think I'd definitley choose the Centerlines over the Rallyes if the Centerlines had white letter tires.

Thanks for the input. There is no right choice really if you think about it. It's like two completely different cars. Sort of like Jekyll and Hyde. I like it both ways but people tend to think that the car is a clone when it has the Centelines on it. For the most part that doesn't bother me but there are other Mopar people around here that would rather I not have a real Superbird if you know what I mean. Many of them have been Mopar people all of their lives and I just switched 15 years ago. I'm the new guy in their minds.
I'm leaning towards leaving the rallyes on for the MMW show and then switching them when I get home. Our fall car show season here in the south is just starting up and there are several more shows to attend before January.
Not sure how to spell it right but I like the rallyes look better. Not because they're stock but just because I like the overall look over the two choices. The car would look good with any rim on it :2thumbs:.
Rallye's for me. Magnum's would be a nice choice too.
I dont care for those aftermarket wheels.
If youre looking for something different classic Cragar SS's are awsome but I always say you cant go wrong with Magnum 500's on any MOPAR!

I really like the 17" and 18" Magnum 500 billet rims but they're around $500 each plus the tires that aren't cheap either. I have too many cars that need money thrown at them to splurge like that on just one car.

Personally i love the black TT look myself, the absence of the white PLYMOUTH decal and the shiny non Vynal top make it look mildly customised and I love it! :drool5: Other than that,.. either wheel looks fine, but I'm not too fond of the Magnum look, I prefer the rallyes.. :shruggy: :Twocents:
Now I see that many of the rims that I thought would look good on the car...don't. The Centerlines are looking better and better. This car is out there in limbo since it doesn't have the vinyl top or the rest of the decals so it has a strange identity. Kind of custom and kind of stock. I don't want to go all original but I still want the car to look like a real bird.
I get opinions both ways at the car shows around here. In the beginning I had several people ask me what wheels and tires I was planning to put on the car and now that I've gone with the rallyes, I have people saying that they liked it better with the Centerlines. Like I said before there's no right or wrong, just different.
there's 1-20 of them at car shows with stock wheels everyday, let it keep its own identity
I like being different.
Here's what the Centerline rims look like on my 69 runner.
Note that the Superbird wing that was on the runner is now gone. Montana bird flew the coop with that wing. ;D

The wheel wells are so friggin big on b-bodies that even my 15X8's with P255's look small. Maybe I should have gone with 70 series tires instead of 60 series. At least the Centerlines filled the wheel openings better. I put 70 series TA's and 15" steelies on the Superbee that bigblocksam bought from me and it looked wicked.
In general I think b-bodies look rediculous with 14" rallyes. They look like tiny roller skates. That's just my opinion though.
I think the 69 runner looks good with the Centerlines. I'm saving that car for my brother but he isn't getting the rims.

The guy that owned them started and drove them pretty regularly. We drove the bee and the runner home but the brakes were spongey on the charger so we trailered it. They were all pretty solid cars. I'll get to visit my old Charger this weekend at MMW.
I upset a lot of people around here when I sold the Bee to someone out-of-state. No one ever expressed interest in the car until they realized that it was gone. Oh well. Stuff happens.

These rallyes are off of my 71 Cuda. The color is correct for that car and I didn't want to change the color until I made up my mind as to whether or not I was going to keep them on the bird. That's actually one of the ressns for starting this thread.
Besides, most of the people at Wal-Mart don't know the difference. If I had a nickel for every time I've come out and found a shopping cart resting against the side of my bird...

Personally I think the Centerlines look better, & probably because you don't have the lettering on the side. As for the crowd that doesn't feel you're a true Mopar guy that should own a Superbird, well, f-em'. If I was in that position I'd find a way to put Chevy Rally wheels on just to really annoy the hell out of them. :D

I don't care for the Wheel Vintique billet rallyes. I've seen them on a few cars and the center caps look too small and out of proportion to the rest of the rim.
Fooses billet rallyes look a little better. His had an aluminum center cap. I would have to take out a loan against my house to buy Foose rims.

The vintques rim dont look that good seeing the differences ..I liked the CMX Mirada rims I had on a superbird.I think they would look even better polished

Rene, those steelies on the bee made it a completely different car. It went from anemic to a car with an attitude.
The Charger looks good with the steelies. I don't remember seeing too many first gens with steelies. Around here they usually had cragars or keystones.
Why don't you run the rallyes on the port side
and the centerlines on the starboard side.
You can only see one side of the car at a time.

I've always liked Rallyes on Superbirds and Magnum 500s on Daytonas...just seems right.
For your Superbird I'd go: Rallyes, Black Steelies, and then dive into 5 spoke billet etc for the 3rd line.
Main thing is: It is your car, do what you want. You don't build it, tweak it, and drive it to please everyone else. Do what you like and you'll never go wrong. Almost everything that gets torn apart between the 100% factory correct and modified camps is something that is easily reversable...just like your wheel/tire combo.

I love those photo shop pics. They tell me a lot about how my car will look with various styles of rims. The bird has P255/60's on 15X8's on all four corners and they fit great.

He got the better deal but I've wanted a 68 runner for quite a while. That car is pretty fast. Needs a little sheet metal work but overall a solid, good running car. I have a date coded 383 to go in it if I decide to pull the 440. I bet I've only driven it about three times since I got it. The plan was to go tor-red and put my air grabber setup on it. Might still yet. Not sure
Cool deal, sounds like a nice future is in store for the Roadrunner! He picked up a 70 GTX but last I knew was going to sell it :'( He has been really busy this year and I don't see him around much. Does great paint and body work though.

Tom, I would like to have the Enkeis but to be honest with you I wouldn't put them back on the car. I just thought that since they are part of the history of the car, it would be nice to keep them with all of the other stuff that I have for the bird. If you buy them back and put them on your car then we still might get them back with the Black Ice car some day. I may eventually put black steelies on the car with chrome lugnuts and then trade back and forth with the rallyes occasionally. For now I plan to leave the rallyes on the car.

I don't personally care for any of the modern wheels. But it would be nice to have the Enkei's as they are part of the cars history.
Bart Racing Wheels are making the old Clement 5 slot NASCAR wheel in a 15 x 8 and in the right bolt pattern. They are powder coated in black and would look nice.
Oh, forgot to mention. The Centerlines aren't going anywhere either. They stay with the Black Ice stuff. At least for a long as my family owns the car.

I still like the look of Cragars. The first set of rims that I bought for my Chevelle SS396 back in the 70's was a set of Cragar SS's. I always thought that they were the best looking wheel ever.
My 71 Cuda drag car has a set of the old school Cragar drag rims dating back to the 80's. I hate to change them but I need to go with a more modern, lighter rim.
the rallys do look good. I like all the different photo shop combo's the stelies would look good with some super wide ones in the back. i think if you have the offset just right 11 inch rims will fit in the back. Is the car running any cooler? glad to see the engine is running good I always have a pro build mine have seen too many home rebuilds go up in smoke. Id be willing to loan it to you for a couple years to display with the car. black just has to be the most superior color ever for a bird. I have shown my friends the good times you guys and the bird are having and they do say now yeah tom the car just stayed all cooped up in your garage when it needed to terrorize once again. take care say hi to sandra.
We're all just caretakers and I'm doing my best to take good care of it. It's running a lot cooler now that the temps have dropped. We found some 93 octane in St. Louis last weekend. This car loves 93 a whole lot more than 91. We don't have 93 here so I may start keeping some 105 in the shop to mix my own fuel. I think the poor quality gas is part of the reason for it running warm.

With those two choices I'd have to say the centerlines. The car is far from factory correct so it needs modified lookin' wheels so the look doesn't clash. :Twocents:

since people here have been drag racing because of an old military strip on a native reservation opened up. one guy gets avaiation fuel and does not pay tax as long as its an airplane. about 60 cents a gallon difference. anyway he said his chevelle with a built 396 started running better then after one tank he said the difference is night and day.
