how come in these pics taken after the movie the car wears slotted mags out back, but during filiming it wore 3 cragar s/s mags and bf goodrich t/a's and the black steel rim with the whitewall tire. i know as i just watched the film and froze the camera and saw the rear rims and they were both cragar s/s's. also this car has a gascap and during filmin it didnt have one sometimes, it states that there was only one movie car but if there are differences like this maybe there were 2 and they kept switchin em up throughout the film, anyone got anything to add?-MATT

Maybe they added the gas cap so they could drive it and just felt like changing the rims? As far as I know there was only one car used.
They just used the one car. It was a pretty nice clone before the movie guys started doing their magic. The rust is spray paint. From what I heard the guy got enough money out of it after the movie to buy a real Daytona. As for the wheels and cap...who knows?
That's likely a more recent owner then. I'm pretty sure the guys starting the clone were the Machado's and they were only building a clone so they had one to drive instead of taking any of their real cars out on the street.
i heard a rumor that this car has been repainted . is this true?
As of last summer,the car was displayed at Carlsile,just as it was in the movie.

I say it's a cragar rim in that photo you posted.The wheel is just dirty enough that you can't see the spokes very well.
Rear wheel is a 5 hole slotted style....front is stock steel rim

Patrick and Mike McKinney built this car from a 1969 318 column shift Charger. The rear window plug was made by welding the hatchback portion of a Vega over the original rear window opening. The trunk lid was shortened, and fiberglass Dayton nose and wing were added. The fenders and hood are off of a 1970 Charger.
The were going to make a Complete Daytona Clone but lost interest so the car sat. Then Patrick's 1970 Superbird was used for a brief scene in the Gone in 60 Seconds remake, which led to him renting the Daytona clone to the Joe Dirt production. The car was sold a couple of years ago and is now owned by a someone on the east coast. Pictures can be seen at www.eastcoastmopar.com

Ha Ha...nice try...you know damn well that this is not the same wheel in that's in the first pic....tire has raised white letters....front tire in first pic has whitewall....plus the tire & wheel you have has a blue fender....rear quarter panel around the tire & wheel in the first pic has no blue on it...

It's the right side front, but the rear look like Cragar S/S to me.

interesting stuff for sure, I had a chance to buy that gold rockford firebird in 85 86 or so . mark characky told me about it . it came with paperwork showing it was the real rockford deal. I believe whomever was asking 8 grand for it. hey I couldn't do that when mark had a green 69 hemi road runner in front of his house for 5 grand!

he moved from littlerock ca, a couple years ago. he had a mopar restoration shop there for years , he used to live in canoga park ca in the 70,s 80,s and till about 97. his dad John is and Mark are two of the most knowelegable mopar experts you can ever know, they have built many show winning cars. his dad lives in minnesota and has a couple original max wedge cars for 40 years . he used to streetrace against dick landy. and wow what a collection of cars and parts between them. They are honest hardworking mopar nuts . it has been a pleasure knowing them.
