Picture is the reproduction (longer and has a thicker head) on left and the original to my '69 on the right.
Why can't they make stuff the same when they reproduce it?
Anyhow... as I know my tank has been on and off over the years I was hoping someone can confirm that the original has the correct long nut on it??.. and the larger diameter / thinner on the reproduction would be wrong on a concurs?
Did Chrysler use a washer under the nut??
OH.. and were the straps left bare steel or were they painted Black?
It would be the thicker nut. I have some nice used original j-bolts with the nuts, PM or e-mail me if interested
Thanks.. did they use a washer or just the nut??
Guess I'll throw my old ones in the evaporust bucket and see how they come out.. if not I'll be in touch.
Thanks guys! Geno seems to have me on track over in my 'Bee restoration thread.
Long nut, no washer, bare metal straps.
:2thumbs:
where in your application i would want it absolutely correct,
Eastwood does make the bare metal paint. (one of my fav colors) and for the standard use the repo could be cut off.
i agree they should just build it identical, ppl would buy more of it from them if they did.
i use ospho to treat the rust and then clear coat it after it turns black that way it is the original part but with protection on it.
who ever you bought them from doesn't know what they are selling
The correct ones are a phone call away
ALTHOUGH, Im not 100% convinced they were ALL this color from oem

Thanks Bill, late to the party as all done and taken care of. I Evaporusted and RPM'd the originals and used those... but good to know Bill has the correct sets !! :2thumbs:
The new ones I had came from P&G and someone else as I got a set with the straps (that were welded together backwards) and I ordered a set not knowing the straps came with bolts. Both sets too long and wrong nuts.
What is the correct color of the bolts? Everyone claims their's is correct. Muted zinc, clear zinc, or green? Green seems strange, but why are there so many vendors carrying green?
My 49 year old ones cleaned up to the standard black phosphate of any other bolt on the car. No sign of coloured plating.. :shruggy:
