Title: I got scammed. Has anyone seen these pictures before
Post by: javakmcharger68 on September 07, 2008, 07:41:30 PM
I am living in vancouver british columbia, Canada the last couple of years. I watch www.vancouver.craigslist.ca a lot for old cars. I came across an add saying : 1969 PROJECT DODGE CHARGER R/T - $6500. I emailed the guy & he emailed back & we talked about a deposit. The car was suppose to be in kelowna originally. Anyways I lost a little more than a bit of money before I realize the guy was scamming me. I never did see the car(sight unseen), stupid of me of course. If it looks too good to be true, than it is. He used the name Matthew Moore. If anyone has seen this car/ pictures before or knows the name from somewhere, please let me know. The more I know about the guy the better. He used the email address; vettguru@live.com. These people are the scum of the earth, & I would like to get the guy. Thanks

I hope you find justice from this but for everybody out there, NEVER NEVER NEVER send money without seeing the car.  (and that's just for starters)

There is a lot to the story, & I am trying not to give too many details because he can google his name & find the post just as easy as I can. I was stupid to give him anything up front, that is for sure. I was still texting with him up until a week ago. So I am trying to gather info on this guy. I even have his bank account information, so I thought I would be o.k. He talked about how it couldn't be a scam because I have so much information on him, & he would not want to go to jail for fraud. He is good.

He did not get $6500.00. He did get enough to really, really piss me off & totally piss off my wife. I am hoping for sex in maybe the year 2010.

You're not the first with this guy. He's been putting ads on ebay for similar prices for the last 2 or 3 years...maybe longer. I emailed him when I first saw an ad and the reply had red flags all over it...along with the crazy price. I never sent money, insetad abused him by email. His reply was that I should try scamming too, he's made some good money doing it.  :flame: I used to report the bogus listings to ebay, but have given up with that. They have never caught him, I'm not even sure they try that hard. He also does it with other classic cars..mustangs and the like. Did you give him the full $6500?

i lost $7500 on a craigslist deal that was good, but not impossible as to being legit. dude kept in touch for weeks.. i had all kinds of info on him. turned out i had just enough info to be strung along, but not quite enough info to do ANYTHING.. sent money to mail boxes etc, bogus name with no ID to pick up, they just let him forge a signature and walk out.. prepaid cell phones, even his "wife" had one and kept in touch with me. they are really good, would be amazing if it's the same group of people.. mine happened in south carolina. i'm sorry that happened to you. i still haven't gotten over my $7500 loss, hurt so bad. i was more pissed than my wife.. for being so nieve.. was only about 3-4 months ago

Ghoste, I am 50/50 on this issue.  Thousands of cars are sold everyday on e-bay and such and the buyers never see their car until they either go pick it up, or it gets delivered.

My heart goes out you and Trav and anyone else for getting burned.  Let's find the rat bastards.  Too bad we don't have a icon with someone hanging from a tree.

If in doubt, ask for a picture of the car with some random object that you want with it, IE a newspaper with the days date, a sign with your name on it, whatever. At least that is one step in the direction that you at least know the person has the car. If you have his bank account info then I would go to the RCMP with that at least. You can't open a bank account here in Canada without proof of ID and physical address.

Often, though, they do not pay any money until they see the car. Some sellers require a deposit but some don't.

As long as folks are falling for the "too good to be true" deals, the scammers will never stop.  Learning how to recognize them is about your best bet.

I listed the wheels & tires off my wifes truck on Craigslist and got ten scammers out of eleven.  :rotz:

i bought a 1963 Savoy 2-door sedan in Kentucky, oktober last year. Also bought an engineblock ( 426 streetwedge) Guy offered me the engine in a telephoneconversation ( stupid me...) bought the engine alone for $2.5k. ( stupid me again..i know )
got the stuff..car was way more rusted than stated in his e-bay ad and the engine...yeap..it had 8 frostcracks...
so i can use the engine as a table and i had to weld a load of metal into the car.
I tried to contact the seller, got a few e-mails back about him not knowing anything about it. and i never heard of him again. i have paid atleast 5 k too much for the car + parts. but that is how it goes sometimes...

Well that just sucks....I hate scammers. I would keep my eyes peeled on crags list and ebay for this scammer to rear his head again. I would scam him, get his phone number and have a trace put on it. Turn the info over to a big gorilla and knee cap the sob. Have the guy break every bone in his body until he returns your cash.

Tom, I remember that you owned Steve's car...I do have the info.  I was wondering if the OP got the info & I could compare it to see if it was in fact Steve's car.....

The car pictured on the trailer has a date in the lower right corner of 7-14-2003. That should have been a red flag!

Funny I just noted the Dana is sitting in front of the car.  I know when he got the car it did not have the dana in it.... I just had it gone through.

Well, we know who owns and did own it. However, they have no control of stolen pic's taken of it.  Alot of pictures of cars are downloaded from e-bay and such and WHAM, some jerk claims the car is "HIS" and burns others who would like to own it.  :brickwall:

Here's some other threads for you just in case this car(not Charger4404spds)  pops up once again.

Getting burned sucks. The RCMP know, but I was hoping they would get involved when I was still in touch with the guy. They are too slow to catch these scamming bastards. I let them know & they could of set something up, but decided to dag there asses. I only have an address that he live in a year ago, because that was the address he gave me. I have a phone number , but he cut it off. Can you trace mail that was forwarded from an old address? Can you not use the bank account information? I would like to hunt him down ,but how.

If you really want to catch this creep hire a Private Investigator....It may cost you some more $$$$ but you would get your pound of flesh. These sumbags figure it will never catch up to them. A good ass beating would solve that. :yesnod:

Now there's an idea whose time has come.  We set up some kind of cross-forum, multi make fund that is used to keep some thug/private investigator/ bounty hunters on retainer and whenever some scumbag scams a car guy on the net, they go into action.  How many beatings do you think it would take for these a-holes to get the message?

Would you take $7.500.00 for it? All kidding aside, hopefully someone finds those people and beats the money he owes everyone out of his hide.
