I am so happy they did not use a 68-70 charger.
The GL did a few jumps over train cars. They did it for real twice. Some of the biggest jumps they ever did.
They had one landing good enough to show in the episode (for a split-second). The other jump got ugly and they cut away from the later half of it.

They did a few other train jumps in the final 7th season (miniatures).

But they destroyed one of my favorite Camaro's :'(
That was awesome!
Maybe the car was repairable. Those Camaros have detachable front frames. It could possibly be rebuilt.
I'm sure it wasn't a creampuff 70 Z28 to start with either.

I thought the same thing. Must be a lighter car and engine.

Do you ever think to yourself, how the f*ck does a human being survive doing something like this?

Not as much as you might think. By the 3rd season a spine-protecting harness had been invented.
There were plenty of broken bones on that show. Some trips to hospitals. But they weren't getting paralyzed or killed or anything. They climbed out & walked away from the the vast majority of the wrecks.
The worst accident on that show was when a camera truck overturned (at moderate speed) and threw the crew off. One death and a few other bad injuries. The incident was never a secret but the studio got the press to back-page it.

I initially planned on going to the Hot Rod show in Detroit. I heard about the jump and the cast members being there just this morning. I didn't end up going.
i get that it was a junker and all, but its still depressing to see these things wrecked on purpose
Oh yeah I'm sure it wasn't in top shape to begin with. I just find the whole thing pretty sad.
I'd like to see this kind of thing featuring Prius's (what is plural of Prius?) and Smart cars.
Any color, with or without numbers or flags on top.
The Charger does it with more grace.

The sacrificial Chargers lately have gotten worse than the Dukesfest cars. It's hard to get too upset about it. They aren't even crumpling in the same places when they land.
The rust, the re-used parts, aluminum foil trim, fake decal taillights, cardboard/sheetmetal grilles . . . nut much Charger left in there.
