hey guys ive been kicking around the idea of turning my 68 into a Daytona. but with a twist Im thinking of leaving the 68 tail lights and side markers. But of course moving the rear side marker to the stock Daytona location and fill in the Daytona Valance and move the side marker to above it. maybe the resident photoshop person here can make a few pics up? any thoughts?
Update:
I FOUND A 70! FC7 to use for my Daytona Clone rather than starting a new thread im just going to continue this one as My build thread. thanks guys
of course it wouldn't look correct, but personally, i think once you get past the fact you'd hear non stop... "that's not right", i think a daytona with 68 taillights would look really cool. i say go for it, i love people that dare to be different with their cars
yeah i know about the Lights LOL im sure i will be hearing plenty of that!

Or you could easily enuf switch out the tail panel to a 69 one.
yeah sounds a good idea !! think though if it were me ! going to the trouble of putting a plug in between the sail panel & altering the deck lid , would deffo change the rear light panel :yesnod:
yeah both true statements ,but the panel does not have a mark on it I would hate to cut it out..cool can anybody photoshop that ? (68 side markers)
Not the best example, but the '68 markers were installed on this car when it was quite new - by an original owner who had just traded in a '68 Charger and liked their marker lights better than the '69 reflector style.
I was thinking of using the 68 lights for like a cuda or coronet( flat based ) and mount them where the 69 marker is loxated normally
Found this pic on the internet a while back
Ron Jenkins Magnumforce blue daytona started off with a 68 charger. And the billboard daytona was a 68

There is a Daytona clone ruining around here, that was an original 68 RT Charger :brickwall:. He worked in a few body shops.
It was factory yellow, he didn't like it so he painted it panther pink. He got tired of that, bought a nose and wing
from a member here, then did switch everthing over from a donor 70 charger, and painted it Viper blue, must be
nice to work at a body shop :yesnod: everything is right there, and you don't evan have to leave work, and if
work gets slow............ boom work on your own car.
Yep you would get comments with the 68 tail lights, but they are great looking :2thumbs:
Dan
I love the 68 tail lights and say leave them be. :2thumbs:

I bet that's why I've never seen it at a show up there. Prolly tired of folks nit picking it. :shruggy:
I think it would be neat, but I would suggest leaving the markers right where they are.

Hey Mike
What I was saying is he did clone the hole car, including the plug. He actually had the red Daytona Clone
at the second Mopar meet up here in Carnation, I think you made it up here for at least one of
the two shows out there?
He did put in the 69 tail lights, and he had the car in daily driver class.......... right....... he would drive
it to work once a week, but no working head lights, no parking lights or turn signals, oh and no license
plate. He got pulled over several times for that problem, he got attention in that car, not positive he still has
it, I have not seen him in a year.

Apparently the fender scoop orientation was lost on this one too...OR he finally achieved all of that brake cooling that the competition was griping about in '69!
the billboard daytona is a 68 also

Here's a '68 Daytona from the Talladega meet! :2thumbs:
that is james keelers car , he is local here and lives about 20 minutes from my buisness here in missouri . I forget about his being a 68 with the tail panel covered . That car does have a real race wing on it complete with cable and all .
yeah Stuart i saw him in Topeka Hpac Show in 05 or 06

you could say it was the proto type LOL
Are 69 Chargers really that hard to find? Some of us could use all the 68 parts you don't need.
Troy
I will keep people in mind that need the parts my reason for wanting to convert this car are:
I know this car well I have owned itfor almost 10+years the floors and frame are spotless. its not an R/t
yes IMO The 69s were hard to get into that is how ended up getting into 68s years Ago.and Nowadays 69 are even harder to get into especially 4 speed BB cars.
as for parts most are spoken for except the grille and smaller items
I will keep everyone posted if and when parts become available
Lee
And you already know your car is 1 of 74. Rare obviously - maybe not the most desirable combo but, man, I'd have a hard time modifying it. Of course, I have a hard time modifying any of mine so I guess it's a personal preference. If it were mine, I'd hide the fact that it was originally a 68 or you'll be explaining why you converted it (halfway) to a Daytona clone. Some of these Mopar guys are nuts and will call you all sorts of names (or write disparaging things about you in a magazine) if they found out you used a rare original for something like that. Are the floors really that important when you're cutting holes in the quarters?
Troy
one of 74 :coolgleamA: , never realised that before ! :slap: , your car Dude but don't think i would be doing a daytona conversion on that 68 :rotz: :Twocents:

Thank you guys for not crucifiying (YEt). the car has no engine or trans so that was another reason. again thank your concern. nothing is set in stone so we will see what happens over the next few months. :2thumbs:

yeah i have had 3 68s and one 67 it may stay a 68 we will have to see :popcrn:
Well after giving it a lot of thought i think im going to go ahead and find a 69 or 70 for my Dayclona project my 68 shell maybe for sale!
Good choice :2thumbs:
well i came to a decision after some friendly persuasion and help from a member and good friend BlackCharger. I was able to acquire a 70 charger in pretty decent shape more details later.car is Plumcrazy with white top and interior 383 2 bbl. console Automatic. A/c car. here is a pic from my phone it looks better in person
really need to finish up on the 66' 426 first, then the 68c later ....
' course you could always take the 68 and turn it into a clone of Raffi's ex Supercharger.
Jim Rodgebaugh built a supercharger replica that should preview in magazines soon :2thumbs: .Theres room for a few more :Twocents:
Heres another one

Yeah I was there at his Home april 24th, 25th for the Build party for that car. He always does some awesome things and it was nice to be a part of it. I got my 68 from was him 7 years ago.

gary svec just finished his super charger creation this year also
oooh... I like that thing! :2thumbs:

Disc brake set up Cordoba style thanks for the adapters "NO318" and will soon be getting tail lights and Upper door pads from "Cooter" thanks in advance ! :2thumbs:
I liked how my old 68 looked from the back... The other thing I did with the tail lights was installed the blue dots in the center. Looked really good at night.

Let everyone know what Daytona parts you need. Some of us may be able to help out and keep costs down.
I have the following: Daytona wing braces, front frame brackets, valance bracket and upper nose bracket, a fiberglass latch tray and I have the blanks to make the wing washers. Hopefully, I'll have a few wing washers made real soon. I'm starting to catch up a little in the shop.
HotRod98 thats the plan i sent you a PM too :2thumbs:

You guys could move alot faster if you only had one car to build. Allthough the main reason I am able move at a decent pace on my clone is because of selling my black 68 for good money.

You call it a decent pace, to most of us we would need an Adam Sandler time stopping remote to accomplish what you have done since last summer!
Once again, I have been following your build since the beginning and all I can say is that you Rock!
One car or six, and a platinum visa to boot, please don't sell yourself short here!
