Title: NASCAR Daytona
Post by: wingman(22) on June 25, 2013, 11:27:21 PM
I am curious as to what Daytona in NASCAR was the most popular? If you we're doing a clone which would you do?

many of the better known cars, such as your dad's, have been done, but with so many obscure ones in the mix, it would be a tough choice to make.

i think vandiver's 31 would be awesome, or perhaps lund's 55.

the photos above are all great looking cars, and they have all been done, in one form or another.

How about making one up as if you were the driver back in the day? Choose your own color, number and sponsors with your own name written on it?

well crossing my fingers for you ,  not having to do the head work would be a relief .
We have had quite a few new hemis come in  with dropped valves and valve seats but none with blown head gasket  unless a result of the valve problem  .

Compression came back at 185psi across 7 cyls and 172psi on the 8th, so that's not really a worry.  I plan on re-testing the last cylinder again...the valve may have just been flash rusted or something if it was open.  I also have all new 6.1 springs, retainers, locks and pushrods to be put in before too long.

IF it runs right, it'll be because two thermostats, a radiator cap, a coolant temp sensor and the radiator fan were bad.  Yes, really.  All of those parts tested bad.

I'm hoping to work on it this weekend.  I've been sidetracked by my sick calico cat...she has a lung infection but will probably make it.  Another visit to the vet tomorrow to know for sure.  I've had her for about six years now and she's been a faithful companion.

A new fan, temp sensor, bottle of Water Wetter and a couple more things made it to the house yesterday, so at least I have everything I need to work on it.

Stuart.  Doug was really stumped with the overheating problem.  As I said the 4 speed is awesome.  So today new head gaskets arrived via ups.  He mentioned that the car might need them.   And as long as he is in so deep, he might as well get a new cam to replace the stock poart.  Must be a guy thing.  His dad did the same to a 72 roadrunner.

And knuckles, upper, lower control arms, all the steering linkage including the box itself are all unique
to the stock cars.  I guess you can include the cross member and sway bar, too.
And the torsion bars and anchors...

Perhaps the local "Unobtanium" store may have some stuff in stock!
