Title: Disassembling Front Grille and Bumper
Post by: shawnmd on March 09, 2006, 10:29:41 AM
Quick question, in what order do I disassemble the front end which includes the bumper, grille (all in one peice) and lower valance on a 69?  Do I need to remove the front valance to get the bumper off?  the car is getting painted.

Yes I would remove the bottom valance. You must remove the bumper frame brackets too. Then remove the front cross member with everything on it and proceed to remove the grille. Take photos for reference when putting it back together. Makes things simpler. :yesnod:

Step one: Remove Bumperettes and license plate mount from front bumper.
Step two: Remove splash shields inside front wheel wells.
Step three: Remove front valance. (easier if you remove parking lights first but not necessary)
Step four: Remove bumper (can be removed with or without mounting brackets at this point)
Step five: Remove grill assy. (dont forget to remove the bolts inside the front wheel openings)
