I heard a story of a 69 Charger 500 in a junkyard in St Charles Missouri. This was back in the late seventies early eighties. Does anyone know anything about this car?
I remember a few conversations with "charger fans" back in the seventies about the C500's. What sticks with me is how few people knew anything about them other than they were a stripped down model. (they didn't even have hidden head lights) :shruggy:
I even heard this from an owner of a wrecking yard--- they were not high on the list of cars to save. :eek2:
BTW welcome to the site.
thank you for the reply. My goal with this question is to find this car if possible. I may learn that it is one of the few that have been lost forever but I'm hoping it is still around somewhere.
If I'm not mistaken,
That car was on ebay and/or Craigslist a few years ago. :scratchchin:
There was a discussion on here about it, I believe.
If it's the same one...
It currently resides in East Carondelet, Illinois. :Twocents:
thank you for the reply. I will try and find that conversation here on the website. There was another 69 500 that I do remember seeing on eBay and or Craigslist that was in Elsberry, Missouri , which is maybe 30 or 40 miles from Saint Charles, also in a salvage yard/ private owner's storage area, about a year or two ago, but it is a different car. The one in Elsberry was green with black interior and I personally saw it several times in person. The car in St Charles from the late 70's or early eighties was white.

The one I'm referring to is the green one.
But...
I was close. :coolgleamA:
Yes. Very good memory. I remember I first saw that car in the late eighties and at that time he had owned it for several years. It was sitting outside next to one of his sheds, in a junkyard full of old Mopars.
 Welcome aboard!
Thanks! Any thoughts on how to track down the 500?

Anymore info on the Car other then it was white ? was the car parted some ? or complete ? color of stripe ? interior ?
I believe it was complete except engine. I know the person that pulled the transmission out of it. He took it to a tranny shop and the tranny guy called him and said "do you know what you have here...this is a hemi torquflite". Apparently it had something different inside of it, something about the clutch packs maybe? I did not know there was a difference in torquflites???? No idea if this was a hemi car or 440.
Hemi tq flite should have a extra clutch plates .what vin was on trans might help track it

Thanks for the reply and the great pics and links. I am not sure if he still has the tranny or not. So if the hemi torqueflite came out of that car, does it mean it was a hemi car or did all 440 cars get the same tranny? Do you know where the pic you sent me of the white 69 500 in the junkyard came from?
tq flite standard but beefed up for a hemi or a six pk car

i cant make out the state on the white cars plate but the plate number looks to be 690-LJP
The white 500 pictured was in Arizona last I knew. That was in 2007.
Thank you for the reply. Any thoughts on anyone saying they got one from a junkyard in Missouri? The other part of the story of this car was that somebody saw it a few weeks before they saw in the junkyard and it was under a tree in somebody's yard with the hood up. And then the next time they saw the car it was in the junkyard with no motor. From what I've been told regarding the transmission that came out of the car it sounds like this might have been a Hemi car. Does anyone know of a white Hemi car that has not been listed in the registry as being found?
