Hey TAN TOP. Where did you find those pictures ^^^ ? Those are old dealers from my home town of Rochester, NY.
Culver Dodge use to have tons of muscle cars in their line up.. I remember a full front row of Super Bee's, R/T's and 500's there when I was really young. I had 3 uncles that were big on mopar. My grandfather as well, but he was more a Imperial type.

Read through the article. Seems they had to be there so the car could run in the "Production Class". They could remove the seats and then add that metal grille plate and the car would run in the "Altered Class".
good picture Drache :yesnod:  :2thumbs: :coolgleamA:
yes could be , because of running in production class , thinking about it though ! would of thought , an interior would be a fire hazard , if the car had a wreck :shruggy: , maybe it was fitted just to sell !! :shruggy:

Here's an Australian Chrysler dealership from 1972, give or take a year.
As an American, those square headlights make the cars look newer than they actually are.

These are a few of an old Plymouth dealership here in my hometown. I have been fascinated with the plexi 40 Pontiac since I read about it as a kid in Special Interest Autos. How did it drive? I assume it has almost no miles?
Very few, I will look back in my notes and see what was on it then. It operated just as any other GM from that era just with the bizarre sensation of being on display. Obviously didn't take it out on the highway or anything like that (imagine getting in a collision with that :o :o).

can someone explain the first picture on this page to me (with the cars on shelving units)
This is long before my day....I dont understand :shruggy:
that was a stacking parking garage, there is a lift between the two towers you tell the attendant what slot your car is in and he goes up loads on the elevator and brings it down...it was to save space in small downtown areas....I liked the last picture on the the previous page...buy gas and get 5lbs of sugar "free"...
That B-17 at The Bomber (previous page) was just moved less than a year ago for a restoration in hopes of getting it flying again.
http://www.oregonlive.com/milwaukie/index.ssf/2014/08/milwaukie_bomber.html
Stegs ,
early car racking where there is limited parking space probably,
would be a lift of some sort in the centre of racks
I was really interested in this one as well,
becoming common place now in basement parking over here in apartments, but to see a very early set up ,
:D

Some great pics guys. Tan Top I can remember when I was a kid that the elevated parking garage was still around Downtown Spokane. All the classic pics are great as I have been watching the old TV series "Highway Patrol" and enjoying the autos, especially the old Desoto's, Dodge's, Plymouth's, Buick's, Ford's, etc. Forgot how soft the old suspensions were until watching then drift around on the tube.

Seems like a lot of young people buying new cars back then or was it they just like looking at them before they went to the used car side of the lot ????
Both. The Baby Boomer generation with their new affluence and the days when a kid working a gas station could jsut swing the payments on a base 68 road runner.
I purchased my 1969 RT/SE Charger from Downey Dodge in California. It was on the used car lot at the time. And, surprisingly they are still in business and at their original location on Firestone Blvd. That ad sure brought back a few memories.....thanks.....

Those are cool.
These pictures confirm all our favorite Mopar muscle cars were not "originally optioned" with styled steel road wheels or rallye wheels. :icon_smile_wink:
Most optional wheels from that period also came equipped with white-line striped (or red-line striped) F-70 or G-60 tires.
I also don't recall any Chrysler product available with white letter tires before the 1970 model year.
White stripe (70-series tires) were still considered very cool in 1970 and regularly ordered by dealers on both road wheels or rallye wheels.
White letters were also available at no extra cost with (E-70 or F-70 tires) on 14" rims....however if you ordered "60 series" tires they were only available with white letter tires on 15" rims.
White lettered tires became increasingly popular on mopar performance cars beginning in 1971.

That old sure-grip additive must really STINK after all of these years ....because it smelled absolutely horrible when new.
If you got the original stuff on your hands back in the day it took a couple days of washing for the absolute STINK to wear off. Bad stuff. I hear it could clear a shop if spilled.....

On the 1970 "Mink" Challenger SE showcar they actually used gray Mongolian Yak fur for the carpet and Chevron cut mink fur for the interior panels, car was Burnt Orange white vinyl top, Burnt Orange interior, auto, PW, AC, wire wheel caps and probably 318 or 383 powered

I'm told this is the oldest Chrysler dealer in Canada. Under the same family ownership for 95 years across four generations, it is still in business today. Located in a community of about 5000 people, I know of at least one 70 Charger RT Six Pack car that is still with its original owner and a 70 Challenger TA that is still with the original family and both cars were sold there.

My very first car, a 1968 Coronet 500 came from that dealership as well, although I bought it privately in 1976.
Thanks TT for all the work. It's so interesting looking at these old pictures.

Holy crap! Look at the water gushing out of those trunk gutters! :o
Yep....let a few leaves get caught in there for awhile and you can almost hear the rust start to happen.
Modern cars have the same gutters but they are a lot bigger. Wide & deep enough to hold a golf ball instead of barely enough for a marble. That's what older cars needed.

Lots of cool ads there.
I should have bought a few of those Chargers back then.
Of course, I was only in Jr. High school and couldn't afford them. :icon_smile_big:
My mom was a Cadillac lover and my dad had a Shivvit truck.

yeah !
i use to collect / save the old hemmings motor news from the 80s when i was looking for mine, gave them all away now though took up too much space :P , when i use to look back through charger adverts in there , before got rid of them , how cheap they were back then & pages & pages of parts & chargers being parted out :yesnod:

That bottom shot is very familiar.
That was taken locally here in the desert from the Bob Hope Chrysler Golf Classic.
They still have that tournament, but since Bob Hope isn't here anymore... they changed its name.
That Coronet convertible....W T F ???
That looks like pictures from a movie or TV show but I don't understand why they'd do a rollover scene in a convertible with NO roll bar!
Kinda reminds me of an episode of CHiPs
It was CHiPs.

Dick Landy influenced me very much growing up in the mid 60's through the early 70's.
I actually got to to talk to him numerous times before he passed away.
His shop built my first stroker Big Block for my truck back in '91.
I've learned a lot since then.

That car is from Chickasha, Oklahoma. That Challenger had been in that car carrier since at least the early 80's if not the late 70's. It was a 383/727 car. To go along with this RT/SE Challenger, the same owner had a 70 TA 340 6 pack Challenger, 70 Challenger convertible, 70 FC7 Purple Challenger, 2 70 Barracuda convertibles, 70 Barracuda Grand Coupe, 2 67 Coronet R/T's, 57 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible, 33 Ford Coupe, 33 Ford sedan and many other rare cars, parts, hemi engines, etc. He had a speed shop in Chickasha, Oklahoma in the 60's-70's. I knew the previous owner for years. He really would never would sell anything for years and loved Mopars. He was close to 80 years of age and had a lady friend that was living with him and I suppose helping take care of him. In 2020, a deal was made to buy all of the cars and parts. The guy was in a wheel chair, had dementia and really didn't know what he was doing when he sold them. The lady that was "taking care" of him ran off with the money from all of his collection. Shortly after, the previous owner of the cars passed away.

Interesting that there is no oil filter on that completed & painted engine, and what would those two steel lines go to?
Is that some kind of test stand and the steel lines come from someplace and return to the filter area so they can see if the oil is flowing as it should ?

Oddly, I like seeing the classics in the snow and the old dealership pictures.

yeah poor panel alignment back in the day , :icon_smile_blackeye:
my charger had never been in a front end wreck & had all its original assembly line fitted panels, & the gaps alignment was crap , when i first got my charger in 89 , i was still a mechanic at the time , knew the gaps were not same but not bad imo no biggie so i thought at the time !, was not till i changed jobs & become a paint & body guy , how wrong i was anything less than perfect or as good as you can get it  . it drives ya nutts when you see panels out of alignment after being in body & paint for 20+ years (not now) & painting about 28 cars a week out of two spray booths every other week one or 2 weeks paint other week in the panel body / metal shop getting covered in metal grinding dust mig splatters & filler dust :D , talk about OCD i no longer look at what the car is at a show or driving down the street... my eyes are drawn to panel fit / alignment, can i see any body filler & any panels off color ie angle lighter or darker if been painted off the car or patchy for metallic paint etc etc . turns ya crazy forget what car i'm looking at its the quality of the paint & body i see first. i'm nuts i know , especially if its supposedly had a 100 grand resto & up forsale for some stupid price  :P :shruggy:  :icon_smile_wink: :image_294343: :yesnod:

It sure doesn't require having OCD to tell the difference between a man and a woman.
SOME people think they are fooling others with it but they aren't.
