https://edition.cnn.com/2019/02/07/americas/venezuela-aid-blocked-bridge-intl/index.html

Must to say the bridge ppl is crossing is diff than the one blocked by the containers. The one blocked was build back in 2016 ( a few miles from the other ) to help on the transit between both countries which used to be a very active border. This bridge has never opened due the political problems between Venezuela and Colombia starting on that year. Venezuela and Colombia borders are "partially closed"

Socialism has ruined your country in a little more than 1 generation. I feel for you and your countrymen.

alfaitalia

You seem to be confusing socialism with corruption. Corruption comes in all political flavours....

....and there are some very financially successful countries they are largely socialist....you're Northern neighbours included!...googled the following :

The term socialist has been thrown around quite a bit in the past few years. Not since the cold war has the term garnered so much attention in the press and from politicians. But when you look at countries who actually have a socialist economic structure, you can see some similarities to the United States – but there are some really stark differences.

Below, you will see some of the most socialistic nations in the world today:

China
Denmark
Finland
Netherlands
Canada
Sweden
Norway
Ireland
New Zealand
Belgium
Despite popular myths, there is very little connection between economic performance and welfare expenditure. Many of the countries on this list are proof of that, such as Denmark and Finland. Even though both countries are more socialistic than America, the workforce remains stronger.
If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you !!

The daily story on public hospitals

https://www.facebook.com/100002646450886/posts/1981875041910692?sfns=mo

Of course private clinics are no like that, but at this moment they are also with lack of medicines, although structurally in good to perfect conditions. Anyway at this moment there is not insurance able to cover large treatments or important surgeries. My Brother  had to be hospitalized for 3 days last year and sucked out all the insurance cover just being 3 days on the emergency room. This is real, we are afraid to get sick! My mom ( allmost 78 YO ) falled down  on the street yesterday and get a hit in her nose. Fortunatelly didn't break any bone, just lot of blood. Dunno what could happen if she got any bone broken!

Sometimes private clinics are not able to offer the X ray service or any other diagnosis service because machines are begining to damage and even being private can't afford or even find the spare parts to the machines.

Yes, Venezuela Is a Socialist Catastrophe

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/01/25/opinion/venezuela-maduro-socialism-government.html

But ... socialist? Perish the thought.

Or so goes a line of argument that insists socialism's good name shouldn't be tarred by the results of experience. On Venezuela, what you're likelier to read is that the crisis is the product of corruption, cronyism, populism, authoritarianism, resource-dependency, U.S. sanctions and trickery, even the residues of capitalism itself. Just don't mention the S-word because, you know, it's working really well in Denmark.

Curiously, that's not how the Venezuelan regime's admirers used to speak of "21st century socialism," as it was dubbed by Hugo Chávez. The late Venezuelan president, said Britain's Jeremy Corbyn, "showed us there is a different and a better way of doing things. It's called socialism, it's called social justice, and it's something that Venezuela has made a big step toward." Noam Chomsky was similarly enthusiastic when he praised Chávez in 2009. "What's so exciting about at last visiting Venezuela," the linguist said, is that "I can see how a better world is being created and can speak to the person who's inspired it."

Why does socialism never work? Because, as Margaret Thatcher explained, "eventually you run out of other people's money."

Nacho-RT74

Ok, I'm living here and this is not socialism. Period.

diff deal is those crazy heads with newspaper tittles pretending call this as socialism.

Considering the vast oil reserves, if Socialism was going to work anwhere this is where it had a great chance of success. You could call Cuba a great success compared to Venezuela, and they have very limited resources. The problem is clearly not simply political ideology.

Then what is it, Communism? I'm just a dumb American who has read that strongman Hugo Chavez (who idolized Fidel Castro) got elected under a socialist platform and over his reign nationalized everything in the country. As we all know, whenever the government takes things over, everything they touch turns to crap.

Add corruption and wiping his enemies to the mix and it sounds like a dictatorship to me.  But if I'm wrong, please correct me.

Kern Dog

I see it the same way. Let capitalism flourish, let the best rise to the top.

Nacho-RT74

It's a dictatorship regime. Socialism is just the excuse to poor population captation creating social class revenges... that's how it got sucess down here using their ignorance.

The problem it has being all this kind of dictatorship regimes has being using the "socialism" as the excuse to become rich.

Socialism is an utopia that usually takes to dictatorship regime... that's definitelly true.

QuoteWhy does socialism never work? Because, as Margaret Thatcher explained, "eventually you run out of other people's money."

I don't know of any socialist country that is $22 trillion in debt like the USA is.  Almost all of that debt has been incurred during the last 40 years, which has been a very capitalistic phase of trickle-down economics, steadily rising productivity, and major wealth concentration at the top.

I agree with some other arguments against socialism.  But this one doesn't hold up, not in real world results.  Countries are too good at getting themselves in debt regardless of the type of economy they run.

IMO the most successful countries are doing some kind of compromise.  It ends up being well-controlled capitalism with some public safety netting like a socialist country.  They call their govts various different titles, including socialism and capitalism.  Official names don't always tell you anything.  Kim Jong's country is called the 'Democratic Republic of North Korea'.

Nacho-RT74

the countries to live better rated in the world are socialist based...Not socialist in all word extension by the political ideoligy means, but based in a social welfare state. Is just about a combination of Capitalism and socialism. The correct use of the capitalism pointing out to a common welfare WITHOUT break the personal and private human rights!

Country names ? thats allways a joke... It happens to China, it happened to east Germany. And now we are Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and this is WAY aware of Bolivar's ideology. After all this pass, will be hard not to hate Bolivar's name because the corrupted use and abuse of his last name.
