Well "Wheels of Terror" Kinda kicked this off when she brought up her tattoo! I had a 73 Charger and have had it listed but no takers yet so I figured why the heck not build a "Wheels of Terror" Charger!!! :icon_smile_big: I pulled it in this evening and started on it, mind you this is gonna be a quickie as my real project is my 69 Daytona clone, but I figured I can do this on the cheap and have a cool on screen car (even if the movie was as fun as watching paint dry! :smilielol:) I decided to modify the front bumper first and it was not easy!!!! I had to use the wheel lift on my rollback to smash the top bar down and then at the same time the winch to pull it forward so I could tack it before letting the pressure up off of it!!!! Your not gonna use a BFH and get that top bar down in place!!!! Tomorrow I am going to cut the louver vents in the hood and "smash" it down in the front!!! I am going to buy some black tractor paint and paint it after I give it a VERY quick lower quarter work!! :smilielol: I will tint the windows with some left over tint I have here in the shop and the SE quarter windows will get the spray paint tint from the inside!!! :smilielol: Still need 4 plain steelies (could give a crap less what size) although 14's up front and 15's out back would make it look more evil!! :icon_smile_big:

I like it!
Awesome! I think the idea has been kicked around here before, nice to see someone actually going for it! :2thumbs: :coolgleamA:
Yea! This is what it's all about. Having some fun.
The hood might be tricky.
Yeah I have looked at pics and the dip in the middle of the hood and I was thinking of making a relief cut right up the middle to where the dip stops, then push it down then butt weld it back together! I really like the front bumper! I can't wait to put the headlight buckets in it and see how much more "Evil" it looks!!
The hood would probably best be done by pie-cutting the area and welding in a sliver of extra metal. Maybe a couple of pie-cuts, one on either side of the hood's center raised ridge. Maybe even add an extra perpendicular section to bring the hood's leading edge back out far enough forward.
You could just whack it down and have it be more screen-accurate. But that method didn't look a whole lot like a factory job when the movie crew did it.
Either way, you might wanna experiment on a junk hood if you can come up with one.
wow :popcrn: :2thumbs: :scratchchin:
think ill stop by to see what u did to the charger :popcrn:
That is really awesome! I was going to do that with mine but it was a Spring Special and I wouldnt do it to a Rallye hood. I can't wait to see it when its done. I love the Charger not the actual script. Keep us updated!

You're going to need a sunroof in that car, too! :2thumbs: :coolgleamA:
Good job................. Would love to see it out and about. That's going to get plenty of attention out on the road. What fun!
There is a downside though............You're going to get people asking you all sorts of silly questions like what car is that/what year is that!
holy cow
never saw the movie, but i like the way that looks!
:2thumbs:
Yeah, I figured it will be a car I won't ever have to detail!!! :smilielol: By the way if anyone has not seen the attrocious movie you can watch it in it's entirety on YouTube.

Checking out the youtube clip.. yeah, the rougher the better it seems.
Look forward to seeing the hood
This thread got me curious, so I watched a few minutes of that movie. Uhhhh.....
I suppose that you intend to install a 300,000 mile 318 so you spew blue smoke everywhere you go? What the heck, man! That movie car was embarrassing! A Charger that can't outrun a woman driving a school bus with a 4 speed? REALLY??? Hey... I think the Charger looks sorta cool though... all "ratted" out with the bumper mods, flat black appearance and shredded vinyl top.
This is great
The movie bombed so bad that hardly anyone is going to know what car this is but doesn't matter, it will be one of the meanest looking cars ever made.
Even at night that thing looks pissed.
I'll be following this thread. Good job on the bumper too :2thumbs:
Well here is another update on "The Terror" The other "Terrors" decided they wanted to help out on it today so I said go at it! They might learn a thing or two so I am going to let them do bodywork and some painting as you can't do anything wrong on this clone!! :smilielol: Here are a few pics of them fighting over tools and complaining about anything in general! I did get the hood modified, I pie cut the middle rib out of it
and it folded downward nicely! I took a piece of 14 ga. steel and welded it back into place, I think it looks pretty darn close to what was in the movie, I also got a couple of the hood "vents" cut and bent need to finish them but otherwise I am pleased with how it's coming along! I think I am going to buy a gallon of rust-o-leum flat black to paint it!! Here are the pics!!

:2thumbs: Cool project! It is coming along nicely. The bumper is mean looking, reminds me a lot of a 70 Coronet. I also scanned "quickly" through the movie on Youtube. Definitely not the greatest of flicks. The mud actually has a cool design of sorts. There are not a ton of pics for this thing and the youtube video is low-res.

Thanks guy's! I know the film was attrocious but I like the Charger! I watched the film when it came out in 90 I think it was on the USA channel and it was real late at night, they had some big boobed big hair blonde chick hosting cheesy B movies on Friday nights! I kind of forgot about it until a few years ago (with a quality film like "Wheels of Terror" who could forget!) It is something fun and quick and does not have to be "perfect"!! And like I said I hope I can teach my kiddos something along the way and they can work on it without myself sweating they are gonna tear something up!!! :icon_smile_big:
Looking good. Great idea getting the kids involved. :2thumbs:

I guess a later, non-scary ripoff of Elvira.

 Yes thanks for the flashback!! That was her alright!! I wish they still played cheesy B movies on TV like they did back then! I have had a hankering to watch the "Phantasm" it seems like it's been forever since I watched it!!! (Gotta love the black 71 Cuda!!) I like the older horror movies!
yeah, "Phantasm". Haven't watched it in ages. Time to dust it off for another look.

I think it would look cool if after it is painted flat black, if you mixed up some reduced browns/tans and misted on some fake mud and dust.
Cool project, keep up the good work.
Jason
Jaak, I was planning on doing exactly that!! :2thumbs:

Awesome! Do you have a time frame on when you're gonna paint it?
Jason
Im gonna try to get it painted next weekend!
Got a little more finished on "The Terror" this evening, painted the inside of the valance panel black (had a hideous neon green color!) and bolted it to the car (only 2 bolts gotta round up more!!) Scraped the million stickers off the back glass! Also I had noticed the Charger in the movie had some of those generic black mirrors on the car and I thought I had a set I had found in another car a few years back!! The one time in my life it paid off actually saving something!! So i drilled the holes and bolted them on Im not even gonna bother painting them! They have a nice "patina" :smilielol: Also bolted the bumper on, need to pick up a gallon of filler tomorrow and give her a once over, I am shaving the sidemarker lights to (they were all crap) and the movie car looks like it does not have them on it so its easier to shave em' rounded up a couple more parts, I still need a driver side door glass and I am looking for a set of plain black steel wheels, The steel wheels I have on the front have the wrong center hub (smaller) and wont bolt on. Here are a couple pics!

Nice, way to go, Indy.
This is an interesting project and it'll be fun to see if anyone dives out of your way as you roar through town. :hah:
you might want to get some brown vinyl paint and spray on the 'dirt' to keep it permanently 'dirty' (even mix in some real dust?)
Am I the only one here that thinks that the front end design looks similar to the BACK end of a 59 Impala??
 It does have those same lines doesn't it!!
:scratchchin:

I want it...the car, not the lights.
It's amazing to me that the moviemakers didn't just use a '70 Coronet in the first place. It certainly wouldn't have cost any more than a stock '73-74 Charger in 1989. But the rest of the car looks better on the Charger IMHO.
Hahaha awesome, I just realized that when I watched that movie as a kid, I had no idea it was a modified bumper/grille. I thought Dodge had produced these from the factory. It always looked a bit like a '70 Coronet, only angrier.
I own it on DVD, got it a Wally world if I remember right.
Come on.... NO progress ??? I've been reading this thread from the beginning. The past two days have been a pisser. Get back to it already!
 Yeah I actually laid some lightweight filler on the hood last night smoothing the hood out, I have been trying to find a cheap set of steel wheels and they seem to have all dried up!! Seems that tends to happen just at the time you happen to be searching for something!! Can't find it!! I promise more pics as soon as I get back on it (trying to finish up the 72 Dart Swinger to sell!)
Oh, man. I just watched the full movie on Youtube. It could be alternately titled "Loser Pedophile Can't Out-drive Rookie School Bus Driver".
Are you sure you want to be seen driving this thing? :eek2:
hey ill drop by tomorrow and to give u that moter wiring for the fire wall.
Who said I was gonna drive it!! :smilielol:  Might go straight to Ebay after I get it done!! Might be some "Wheels of Terror" fan that has been waiting a lifetime to own a replica and has been saving loads of $$$ to eventually buy one!!! :smilielol:  A guy can dream can't he!!

i try to get u that gas tank out of the road runner this week.
Cool thanks Chris stop by any time!
STILL no progress? :slap:
Yep no progress been trying to detail out the 72 Dart since I have it for sale and tomorrow I should finally have the couple final touches done on it and I can get the quick bodywork done on "the Terror" I have the paint (Gallon of flat black rustoleum!) I also have the 20% window tint, hopefully next week I can jump back on it!! I still need a driver side door glass for a 73-74 SE if anyone has one let me know what you want for it!
I find it strange that I have had so much interest in this car build. Something about the car pulls me in!
I have several pieces 3rd gen door glass .... I just don't know how to id it as 71-72 or 73-74. I would donate it for shipping & packaging cost if I can get some help w/numbers of ID. SE/Rallye/Std for a door should all be the same. Is electric vs hand crank identical? Also need help via numbers to ID clear vs. tint too.
If it's super cool when done, you have to give me an eBay price break!
Geez Indygenerallee, there's so much interest in this car of yours you'll probably be able to sell it for a pretty sum when it's finished. :2thumbs:

I have several pieces 3rd gen door glass .... I just don't know how to id it as 71-72 or 73-74.
all 71/74 door glasses are the same, no matter if powered or manual... just diff if tinted or not
just quartes change, being, 71 hardtop, 71/72 coupe, 72 hardtop, then 73/74 hardtop, 73/74 coupe and then 73/74 opera window ( no matter if SE or M07 code, since only diff is the added louvers or outer frame where it mounts )... then all these being tinted or not
Mike, Thanks for the deal!! my zip is 47834, I am actually suprised about the amount of intrest in the car myself! It does look really evil and should look even better in flat black paint with the tinted windows, Chris brought me a gas tank this evening for it, so a little closer!

I find it strange that I have had so much interest in this car build. Something about the car pulls me in!
Ditto. I check this thread daily to see if there have been any updates.
Jason
Need to know if the glass you need should be tinted or not. Might be on your fender tag if are not sure. The difference between the two isnt obvious to me unless I compare side by side. I'll go check the stash this AM ......
Mike, It does not matter as I will be tinting the windows with 20% tint.
Looks like I have 1 tint and 2 std. So a std it will be. It's just glass, nothing attached but a couple of the studs... ok?
I'll PM you some ship info when I get it figured out. The box will be good size.
Drivers side.
Yeah Mike that's fine whatever you want to part with I really appreciate it! You will get first dibs on the "the Terror" if I sell it! and yes it is Driver side I am needing. Thanks! :2thumbs:
Paint?
:smilielol: Yeah Im slacking, been pretty busy around here lately I know it's a excuse but I have been trying to get the kid's 4 wheelers up and ready for summer! :icon_smile_big:
Put off the kids stuff. You'll be teaching them a valuable lesson: Life is full of disappointments, and the sooner that they live through some, the better they will be prepared for the real world. We need you to move forward on the car project.
nice job
I've decided to resto a short schoolbus so we can do a reenactment. I don't know where I'm going to kidnap the almost MILFy bus driver from though. I bet appateaser night at Chilis might turn up some good prospects.
:smilielol:  at Red and Hatersaurus
What the heck is going on?
"The Terror" is on hold right now, between working 40+ hour weeks, babysitting the girls when wife is at work in the evenings (kinda hard to get anything done with a 8 month old!! lol) and then to top it all off I have been working on prepping the wifes 06 Charger for re-paint (plum crazy purple), Not a whole lot of time left to get anything else done!! But it's not forgotten!!! I will get back on the Terror soon I hope!

Just don't leave your girls in the garage alone with the car. Well unless you also have a schoolbus to give chase in. Just sayin.

I could barely read through all that grumpiness. Just saying. :D

I am confident that members here understand that I was using similar silliness to showcase another persons silliness.
Man this looks great but with all the work thats goin into so far, wouldnt be to difficult to pop those opera windows cut outs out,for the correct look.
Are you just sayin or what?
who's sayin what? :shruggy: I thought what was on first!! Or was that who? :scratchchin:

who is on first. so when the first baseman cashes his paycheck, who gets the money. :2thumbs:
I'm gonna be that guy: Any update?
Yeah, really!
This guy starts a build of a low level TV movie car and we all go wacky about it. THEN the man mothballs the car and here we sit, waiting for updates.... anything pertaining to the car at all. Last I remember, the OP had pancaked the hood and had begun some rudimentary bodywork. The grille/bumper had already been modified. I thought I remembered some story about "Kids taking priority" or some other crap story like that...
The Charger will most likely be sold, just no time for it and I need to focus more on my Daytona.
Oh, that's a shame, it was a good project idea but a man's got to do what a man's got to do.
Yeah I would love to finish it, but there are only so many hours in a day and so many dollars.
priorities my boy. :yesnod:
i would have loved to see that build.
I am somehow thoroughly disappointed. :'(
Life's a bitch, aint it?
It's sitting outside the garage, I might get a wild hair up my ass this winter and throw it together yet, I have not listed it for sale yet so technically it's not for sale! :smilielol:
I for one will stay tuned. :2thumbs:

Tuned in when your passed out. How long did it take the missus to figure that one out?
Any progress over the winter?
I second that. Get in gear dude.
By the time the car gets finished, the 1973 models will actually be worth what the 68-70 cars are selling for today !!
