Surfin around and found a daytona listed in the dodge section under other cars. Looks like a 70`s paint scheme. Anyone know anything about this car?

Pretty cool car, I'd drive it just like it is :icon_smile_cool:
It's got a woodgrain dash, I wonder if it's an SE? It doesn't have the SE emblems on the sail panel, though.
P.S. The jack is wrong ::)
very interesting car. dig the paint man. any guess's how much it'll go for?
Not a bad looking car. I don't see how they can think they can really get away as advertising it as origional. Custom paint job, interior is cobbled together, as well as the stuff under the hood. Only thing that looks origional is wing, rear window plug, and the VIN number. The nose cone is molded on, hood pins aren't right, mirrors appear to be E body mirrors.
Well i lost the last bet to a friend on that burned up daytona, cost me a case of bud light but i helped him drink it. So i will say $126.000.00.. :icon_smile_cool: Jay.
I'm going to guess it probably has a reserve of $145K on it, and I don't think it will reach the reserve.
Well, needless to say, I've emailed him.......... :icon_smile_big:

Go for it Troy. BUY IT :) AND DRIVE IT
Man all these COOL NONRESTORED CARS coming out of the Woodwork, I wish I could hit the Lottery so I could buy all of them and make sure they don't get made into JUST ANOTHER RESTORED WING CAR..
I was just offerd today 150k for my unrestord 440 Daytona, Just think pay off the house still have my 500 and quit work. Naw i think i will keep it. :icon_smile_cool: Jay.
I was going to say, you'd be silly to take that offer Jay. You have exactly what collection I want. A matching Daytona and a 500.

That's my dream...... :icon_smile_big:
good candidate for a back to factory rotisserie restoration in my opinion , real low mileage car , would like so see the fender tag though , might be a SE as it has got wood grain & pedal dress up . might be a track pack car ,as it has got a DANA as well
i'd change the interior and drive it just the way it is. i guess$109000
I'd keep the interior and drive it as is. :icon_smile_big:
I love those old Motor Wheel wheels.
I'm going to say that its not an SE. I'm figuring if he added that crappy console and such to the Daytona then he added the wood grain and the pedal dress up.

Yeah but Troy still might get lucky on Prom night.
any luck on finding out any contact information other than ebay for the seller? Somebody has got to recognize this car. Its too odd to not be remembered. The DSAC doesn't have it in their files I already asked.
Well, it sold at $150,000............ :(
I just need to get this dang '68 painted..........

$150 huh, hurry up and get the 68 done and sell it to buy a Daytona then Troy. :)

I've expressed my concerns and frustration to my body man, hopefully it'll be soon, about 2 months.... After I move in 2 weeks I can start assembling the front suspension with the drivetrain on it for the mating.........
Troy
Yes the jack isnt right .I got extra real mc coy jack. That one pictured isnt it .If it was a real SE the fender tag would have A47 for SE package. Also the car wouldnt have roof charger script emblems .It would have the SE emblems

Whoa, I have not been called that for at least 2-3 weeks :yesnod:
Yup - I was kinda hoping someone would out-bid me ;D but the period pimp job is growing on me (except for that Holiday Inn Lounge circa 1972 red carpet :P)!
The car is a 100% rust-free, solid and straight piece which many of you know is the big part of the battle. The pics don't do any justice to the condition of this 'Tona. i wanted a stick (but John A. keeps refusing my pestering :icon_smile_sad:) so I figured a solid, 4.10 auto ride is a
groovy way to go!

Congrats on the purchase. Are you going to keep the retro paint scheme?

So does she want a Daytona yet? :)
Enjoy them when they are that small. I wish Dakota was a new born still, sometimes anyways. At nearly 3 he is great fun now though. Puts a smile on my face when he asks "Daddy, can we go for a ride in the Charger, and light 'em up?"
congrats on your new wing car. Rene

Fine by me.... lol
My way of saying that I think you already have the perfect trio.
Nah he has a nice pair, but not the perfect trio. Perfect trio to me would be a 4 speed Daytona, HEMI 500, and a HEMI Charger R/T all 69's. :)
Nice trio huh..
Ah well you can be the young Danny if all you want is a 500. I'll just wanna be D. Liebrandt, but not the Daniel I am, but rather Dewayne as he had 5 Daytona's. I just want 1.
You want a Daytona as bad as I want a 500. ;D Hopefully, we both get what we want (although I'm much more certain that you will achieve your auto dream first).

Nah my dad wasn't much of a fan of the 68 cars, he only liked the cars with the wings. I remember him telling me when I was about 3-4 years old. "Danny, if it doesn't have a wing, it doesn't mean a thing"

I am going to do a lot of digging, cleaning and stuff so I'll report on the findings as I go. As far as keeping the Groovy paint scheme........It is kinda growing on me...I won't be in any rush - too many Mopars are apart right now.
Anyway, it should arrive in about a week so let's see what I have to work with.

I hear ya.Back in the day the first thing to go on these cars were the wheels and tires then onto a flashy paint job.If I had another one it would be done up as a 70s street machine.
 Doing the Disco Drop Disco Down! O0
Well the day was spent putting the rebuilt motor and trans back in. I left the K-Frame (just a good cleaning) and all the front end stuff original. I had the P/S steering box and pump rebuilt because I wanted zero leaks - but they were not repainted. The car had the original 070 fan clutch on it but I went for a new clutch for reliability. The original clutch looked and felt ok (the car only has 16,000 miles) but a fan clutch repair on a wing car will destroy your back (Unless you have Troys ACME Daytona Suspension System ;D )
Should be making some noise in a few days!
Looks great, Jim!!
Did Mr. Katter do the carburetor for you? Frank Badalson the distributor? The whole engine looks good. :2thumbs:
I don't remember hearing from you about whether you'd found some additional lug nuts for the Spyder wheels. Any luck there?
You'll be Disco-ing really soon from the looks of things!!!
Thanks Gene.
Yup - Katter did the carb and Frank's engine guy checked out and curved the distributor. The distributor was just cleaned - except the vacuum can was replated.
I was waiting for my son to come home to be my "eyes" while I slowly lowered the hoist. Well I got everything lined up and decided to do it myself (got giddy!)
I dropped it a couple inches at a time and then ran around checking all the clearances and repeated 20 times till it was ready for the K-Frame bolts. I have done a couple Hemi's with this setup and believe it or not the 440's are a tight fit as well. I got everything hooked up except for the driveshaft - I promised some random guy rubbings and pics so I left it out. ;)
Gas tank, driveshaft and a couple little things left then it gets fired up!
Couple more pics,,,
Looking Good Jim! :2thumbs:
That is a mighty fine k-frame/engine cart.

Do I understand you correctly you had the vacuum advance replated? This is an automatic car right? I did not know they could be replated. How is this done with the diaphragm inside? :shruggy:

I'll ask the guy that did it but my guess would be the nipple end was capped off (I can see that there isn't any plating on the last half of the nipple) and the rest was somehow dipped in the plating. I have re-plated power steering hose ends as well.
I've been trying to find the time to build an engine/trans cradle like the one that you have, but can't seem to find the time. Who is selling them? I may just have to buy one. I have to install the driveline in the runner that I've been working on...soon.
Seems like I talked to someone at SEMA last year about them but I can't remember which company it was.
My body man built me up a couple. This is the first one where only the rear wheels swivel. The second cart (not in pic) has all 4 wheels that swivel which makes it easier to move around and line up. I keep meaning to change the front wheels out on this one too. You can adjust the height on all three posts (threaded) for fine tuning during the drop.

Yep EV2 - You can see it in the wheelwells and were the red metallic has flaked off in the engine compartment. They didn't even scuff the paint in the engine compartment before they painted. I could blow it all off clean with a pressure washer if I wanted to.

Indeed it is! Going to be another great year for Wing Cars and Mopars at MCACN. We already have several Superbirds in our Vintage Certification area, several more in Mopar Alley and several Daytonas including a first time shown fresh from restoration Daytona in the general show.
For more info on MCACN, check out www.mcacn.com. The show is always the weekend before Thanksgiving, which is November 19-20 this year.
