Anyone know of markings on trunk floor, below floor mat?
As I was playing with the pictures to post this question I think I solved it. But.. I thought I would still post this for amusement (and maybe to answer a similar question in the future).
First thought on "The Marking" was that it was some inspection stamp after painting. Then there was a theory it was from a sticker on the floor mat. If it was a sticker, then it would be in reverse. So I did some image enhancing, then reversing, and finally rotated the image. What do you all think it is?
Here is image with a flash...
now no flash and some color changes...
Maybe from stenciling from the bottom of the trunk mat?
Now a mirror image
And finally, I rotated the mirror image. Who wants to be the first to solve the mystery?
Trunk mat is a great guess. Photo of how a correct bird trunk mat and equipment lays out.
(image from Mopar John's restoration).
If there was a label or ink stamping under the mat, the tire or other weight could have transferred the image to the painted trunk floor.
The above is John's 'Bird. The below image is my trunk floor as it sat for 25 years. Not quite as pretty as it should have been - lol. Plenty of time for an image to get transferred I'm guessing.
F70 - something maybe 14?
The radius matches raised tire letters also.
SPOILER ALERT !
The only photo I have of the trunk when the car was in the barn shows us a hint. What brand / style tire is buried below?
We have a winner!
Alaskan... good job! It only took me 2 weeks to figure it out - hahaha!
Did I win the car or ? ;-)
Maybe that part of the car and everything attached to it ?????
Not much room for the spare tire now :(
