Title: Inside quarter panel Plastic
Post by: john108 on November 16, 2019, 02:30:50 PM
1968 Charger
The Inside quarter panel is covered by a thin plastic sheet.
It appears to only be bonded on the 2 sides (original picture).  Is that correct?
You can see the white lines of the adhesive.

Is there any problem if I were to use Black plastic as I have plenty of it???

Thank You
John

Sealed on the sides so the water stays back there and the bottom edge gets tucked into the slot at the bottom and then taped, so any water goes into the quarter panel to drain. Some cars sealed along the top and others just retained by the strip.

Just a moisture barrier so your door panels don't rot, make it from what ever you have or buy done from David @ PG for a few dollars. He supplies the cord seal and tape.

You should also make little cord seal "dams" above and down the sides of each hole protrusion (crank handle, door release handle, arm rest, etc)

Thank You.  It helps a lot. I had remnants of black tape near the bottom corners and at the bottom but wasn't sure.
I planned on using duct tape but not 100% sure of all places.  I didn't think of the areas like the crank.
Mine had additional tape near the corners and possibly over other holes.
Thank you again.
John

OE was like a paper tape, anything will do. My pics are of my Bee and it's a Coupe so no back crank mechanism

Anyone have an idea of where to get the white cord seal or something similar?

This was done when they were new, and subjected to daily driving in all environments.  I really don't they are a must in their later life's, with very few miles put on them each year.  :Twocents:

A couple of outings in some good rain and your new $600 door panels are toast. Why take the chance for 30 cents dollars worth of plastic and a $4 box of cord seal?
