Title: 1968 Charger Torqueflite VIN and ID Stamping HELP needed
Post by: 383 ci on December 22, 2020, 05:14:47 PM
Need Help in reading my 68 5/15 build date Charger Torqueflite trans SN and matching VIN numbers
The is a number Stamped the the Top of the Trans Bell Housing that matches the VIN,
The Pad, where the VIN is supposed to be on the Pass side of the case is blank?

The Tran Rail is Stamped as follows, PK 280154-1L 2469 2828 ,see photo
Is  this a 68 Trans that matches the VIN?

Wipe the engine in the same place and it should be stamped right across from the transmissions stamping. '68's are not stamped on the oil pan rail pad...

I am not looking for the engine VIN stamping, or anything on the engine.
I am looking to verify if the Transmission stamping information I provided in my request is a matching number transmission to my Charger that was built 5/15 , The VIN is XSL8B385344

I am a little confused about what you are looking for

You say your car has a VIN XSL8B385344 ( should be XS29L8B385344 )

Your picture clearly shows that that is the number stamped at the top of the transmission
Why would this not be the right transmission unless you think someone stamped the numbers on the top but used the wrong year shell to start with ??

Your picture that you posted is of the VIN at the top not the rail on the bottom edge of the transmission

The transmission stamping shows it is from a 383-4 or 440 and was built May 1, 1968.

Most agree that '68 stamping was sporadic.
