Title: msd ignition 73 charger
Post by: texas charger 73 on February 01, 2015, 08:05:59 AM
On my 73,318 charger I want to put in an msd ignition system. I know factory creates enough spark, but I want to eliminate the weak links(ecu, ballast). Is this easy to install? What all wires can I remove after installing?,

Second I was told I would be better off with a one wire alternator opposed to a factory 3 wire and yet again I could clear out more in needed wires.  Who has done this mod? Improvement? You like it better than 3 wire? Is one wire still a dodge alternator?

Along with these improvements being upgrades o want to clean up engine bay removing un needed wiring.

msd is very easy to install. just remember both wires from the ballast resistor have to be tied together for ignition power to the box. (one wire gives power only while cranking, the other makes it run. you need both)

and the onewire was easy too. took care of my dimming headlight problems. seems to charge it much better. i used a 160 amp unit.

mmmm not really... the wire from ballast to coil is enough actually to make work the MSD ( to the MSD thin red wire ). Remember this wire will become in just the key on/off trigger for the MSD module. Diff stuff is if you want to get rid off the ballast, when in that case, yes, needs to splice brown and blue wires coming from Ign switch into the thin red wire of the MSD. But while the ballast is there, will work as a splice already.

one reason I installed the MSD is to get rid of that damned ballast resistor nacho!! now ive completely rewired the car so i got rid of the rest of my wiring issues too.

I just finished installing an MSD, and tied the wires together to rid myself of the ballast. Cleaned up the engine bay and rid myself of a lot of extra wiring. Engine fires right up now and sound great, its a worth while upgrade
