I'm writing you from Paris, France, I'm very happy to be the owner of a 73 Charger, coupe base 2 doors, 318 2BBL.
I'd like to get a new alternator, but for my Charger there are 6 or maybe more differents alternators on Rockauto, some with 1 pulley, some with 2 pulleys, different amperages, etc. I 'm lost
And the one I have (it's dead) I think it's not the right one, the number is 209519, I found one on eBay (already sold) and it's for 1968 Charger apparently...
Any ideas or informations please.

Welcome to the board.
The number of pulleys will depend on whether or not your car has A/C, generally A/C cars need a double pulley and others do not. The amperage depends on your accessories, if you have a lot of power accessories you need higher amp output.

There is a vintage aftermarket A/C but I think I'm going to get rid of it, so I can order one pulley then, about the amperage I don't have lots of accessories, just all the basic lights, I don't even think I have the light in the trunk...
So I can order the cheapest one I guess.

get a 60 amps one AS MINIMUN... trust me. You need power at iddle. Mopar alts are REALLY UNNEFICIENT alt units at iddle. Stock ones were around 45-50 amps, sometimes less... GET A 60 AMPS UNIT AS MINIMUN!!! no less. that will keep safe your charging network
Are there any thoughts about the DB electrical alternators?
One thing to check out is that a true 1973 alternator has two field wire connections. If the present alternator is from a 68, it would only have one field wire connection. This raises a question as to what voltage regulator is being used. If the older regulator, with one field wire is on the car you will have to ground one field wire connection on a 73 alternator, then connect the wire from the regulator to the other alternator field wire connection.
If it were my car I would put on the correct 1973 alternator and the correct 1973 electronic regulator.

checking rockauto I have found the "smaller" output is 60 amps. It seems the older ones are not being remanufactured anymore. The REMY 20152 which is 65 amps single pulley. Althought clicking on th einfo box, they it says 50 amps. Ask to Rockauto customer service before buy. They are really helpfull
There is also the REMY 201531 which is 78 amps ( searched as a 1985 Dodge Diplomat ), double pulley. That will work too. Doest matter if it got double pulley, and it list even cheaper than the other one
Both are remanufactured.
but please, once again don't go on the cheap one, get a 65 amps... or even better a 78 amps one... no matter if you won't have anymore the A/C. Your charging system will be gratefull.

The 78 amps unit will be able to provide around 45 amps at iddle if the car needs it. The ammeter will be pleasured and relaxed with that.
These alternators SEEMS TO BE based on the later case ( 80s ) which is a bit wider, giving more room to a wider stator inside, reason to the better output from them
or even better... tuffstuff 100 amps alt ( go to their website ). But they are 4x the price
The db electrical alts seems to be a nice option too.
Powermaster uses to be a preffered source too. But all of these are at least 2x the rockauto prices

What is that brand DB ? I haven't found it on rockauto.

I bought one of their starters and a replacement alternator, but have not yet installed the alternator. Thought I would ask because the price seemed OK for both.
the 114 amperes could use different brackets... some cars with high equipments like cabs, police or cars with tow package got those. They are known as Leece neville alts. But can't tell for sure if the ones on rockauto are those
My vote is for the 78 amps I mentioned ( which is not listed for 73 Charger )
dbelectrical, powermaster and tuffstuff are aftermarket options with high output rates on stock cases. Usually not offered at regular parts shops
Here is an article where talk about the 78 amps alternator and show pics on how it looks, a bit diff from earlier models BUT STILL the earlier model shown there is very similar to the one your car must get on the side view. Aside that, 80s alts use to get smaller pulleys, making to spin the alt faster and getting better juice at iddle speed.
Of course, YOU WON'T BE NEEDING any wiring upgrade between alternator and regulator to feed the fields on back of alt since your car is already wired for it, but just to let you know about the comparision between alts ( you can check pics )

That alternator is the Leece-Neville, it needs different brackets and uses a different regulator. These were usually used on specialized cars like cop cars.

The bracket I used to have wasn't for a 73 Charger they "fixed" it for this 68 Alternator, so do I need another bracket for this 78 amps ?

78 amps is basically same alt, just COUPLE OF milimeters wider, so can fit a bit tighter, but easy to "save" just trimming a bit the rear spacer... just if needed... same bracket than previous years, no need to worry. Leece neville alternator is the one what is diff bracket system
Seach the alt by PN ( the one I posted ) and will float on
be sure to check the main charging wiring conditions between alt, firewall, ammeter etc...

By the way guys, how about water pump ? Can I buy a cheap one on Rockauto, is it ok ? Should I remove the old one to have the serial number or are they kind of all the same for 1973 318 2BBL ?
