Title: 70 Profile Tyres
Post by: JMF on April 14, 2019, 07:33:59 AM
Anyone running 70 profile tyres on 15's ? Any pics ? I just want to get an idea of much taller they look as opposed to 50 or 60 profile tyres , many thanks

Part of this will depend on the width, but you can check on a website that has tire sizing like: https://tiresize.com/tyre-size-calculator/ to get an idea.  I think the 276 60 looks pretty tall at 28 inches total and the corresponding diameter in a 70 series would be 245.  (it would just be narrower).  I tend to like tires in the 27 inch range on 15 inch rims, but that is personal preference more than anything else.

I just picked up a set on Friday. Going with 215/70R15 for the front and 275/60R15 for the rear. Just the look I was looking for anyway. Not on the car. Here are a couple of pictures. I hope they help. That tire size comparison app is sweet. The dimensions are right on the money Mike!

profile number is not an absolute but relative number... is the % of the width making the height ( x 2 x 25.4 to get inches plus rim diameter )... so you can get same height with 225/70 than with 255/60 ( I'm just throwing out numbers, withouth making maths, but must be close )

70% of 225 milimeters width against 60% of 255 milimeters width

well making the maths, numbers are very close on my example...

157.5 mm vs 153 mm, so around 1/3 of inch diff on total height being the 225 higher, but minimal... less than the 70% factor could tell you without really know what it means
