If he's gone, that's news to me. Come to think of it, I haven't seen him post much in the last couple of weeks.
Sure hope he's still around. We need innovative guys like him around here to help us cloners.

he's gone. he's been banned . i don't know why, i missed what happened . i too miss him and have asked Troy to let him come back . I've spoke to him on the phone several times . he misses all the guys here and the charger board. ALOT . he had a bad habit of  putting down other people's cars . i don't like that  but  i think he realizes that that was wrong. he told me , he told me he wouldn't do that anymore . he shared a lot with us about his project  and helped alot of people here with there's . i remember the dayclona guys where allowed to come back several times. so i don't see a reason why he shouldn't get a second chance .
i am heading down to his house to pick up my a pillars and drop off my daytona nose , he is gonna make it operational for me . Rene

I think that the stuff he was doing was helping a lot of us here on the board. I agree with Rene regarding the dayclona guys getting a second chance (or two). Please Troy...just one more chance.

Everyone deserves a second chance, however well I'll keep my opinion to myself.

He does do good work, that I'll give him.

That's twice this week you have kept your opinion to yourself.  That's an admirable trait in a forum like this where we are all anonymous.
Title: Re: look what and who i found on ebay
Post by: hotrod98 on December 26, 2006, 07:10:46 PM
Some people were getting a little upset with daytonalo's opinions. I think I'm a little more easy going than a lot of people. I don't let too much bother me. If someone thinks that something that I own is a POS, then so be it. It's just their opinion. It's what I think about my stuff that really counts.
My feeling is that life's too short to get upset about trivial things.

Banned? I know he spoke his mind but really. Cutting him off alltogether without another chance, thats bad. Ya gotta give the guy at least one more shot. He has done a lot on building a clone and I would like to see it finished.

That`s my 2 cents. I hope ya give him another shot.
Title: Re: look what and who i found on ebay
Post by: dkn1997 on December 27, 2006, 08:11:46 AM
hmmm..I did not know he got banned.  We all know that this site is definately more "easy going" than moparts or the other mainstream mopar sites.  More banter, more language, etc....and I, for one, think it's a good thing because most people have a filter in them that prevents it from getting too out of hand most of the time.  Some of us get carried away at times and it goes too far.  Troy and the mods do a good job of keeping it in check, quietly locking threads that get nuts, DAMHIK!!

with that said, there seems to be a backlash lately towards some of the real instigators, the guys who post up just for the sake of posting and stirring the pot.  These guys offer no substance, technical advise, sharing experiences, nothing...You can see the responses to these people lately, getting called out for starting trouble for absolutely no reason.   Maybe larry's banning is part of that....I don't know.  Unfortunately, Larry gets his irish (whatever you want to cal it) up and once the train starts moving, very hard to slow it down.  He is very different from the other instigators, though, in that Anyone who visits the aero secion knows what larry brings to the table as far as fabrication and the desire to share what he's done and how he's done it.  I enjoy his technical posts, the lemans headlight motor system, A pillar trim, etc...

I hope he gets a second chance too.  As a penalty, he should be made to fabricate new '68 tailights for every 68 owner on the site!!

Ah so your keeping count Ghoste?

My wife says I never keep my opinion to myself. Guess if she read my 3,000 post she would see that I've done it 2 times now. :)

Actually, I've always welcomed your opinions.  I only noticed because the two threads in which you stated you were keeping it to yourself occured close enough together that when I read the second one I had an attack of deja vu and had to backtrack a little to get my grip back on reality.  I'm better now. :icon_smile_tongue:

Yea Let him back on. He always put my car down too but I agree with hotrod as long as you are happy with your car who cares what anyone else says. At least I know I will have more fun with my car as I keep burning the tires off it. some of us just make a Little more than minimum wage and cant afford the hi dollar parts and have to make them the best we can. Has anyone bought any of his pillar covers and how much did you get them for? I emailed him on ebay and made a offer.

Title: Re: look what and who i found on ebay
Post by: Troy on December 29, 2006, 02:20:14 PM
Yep, I'm the bad guy. I'm just a big meanie I suppose.

A little background: this board is mostly self-moderated but there are a few people who have a bit more control. They have that control because they have proven that they can be trusted with it (or they own the site like me) and that they make decisions on what suits everyone on the site best. We very rarely ever ban anyone and, for the most part, people keep it civil enough that we don't even have to lock many threads. Banning someone is not an easy decision and not something done on a whim for no reason. Special cases are trolls (people who join solely to cause disruption), spammers, and people trying to scam others. Let me make it perfectly clear that I don't want to lose anyone who is active in the community for any reason - but sometimes what's best for the site isn't what I want. I make many decisions based on the amount of work something/someone causes me and the other Moderators (we do work for free after all). I like things to run smooth and for the members of the site to be happy so they stick around to make the community better. When we get 6-10 complaint emails per day and continuous reported posts by the same person it forces us to take some sort of action. This is usually a warning and a request. I (we) do not enjoy having to babysit full grown adults and I personally hate to apologize for the bad behavior of others. Larry had plenty of warnings and ran through his "second chance" long ago. I would go as far to say he's well past his fifth or sixth chance (I'm very lenient apparently). He was told in very plain language (on multiple occasions) exactly what would happen if we continued to receive complaints. To say I was "outvoted" would be a severe understatement in this case but not something I could ignore. Is it permanent? I can't say yet. I don't particularly like the insinuations in this thread though so I thought I should at least provide our point of view. I'm always open to suggestions but I do NOT appreciate judgement being passed without full knowledge of what went on.

FYI: there's a feature on this site that allows you to read a member's posts. It lists them in reverse order. I suggest checking it out. Link for the lazy:
http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1105;sa=showPosts (the more rude/profane posts have been removed)

Troy

PS: Rene, the Dayclona guys were not "allowed" to come back. Look at all their different user names. They tried to find any way they could to fool the system. Larry has been kind enough to not stoop to that level which I appreciate.

hey Troy

i've never said you are a bad guy , i know it aint easy to run this place and we all appriciate it. Larry  was being an ass . i agree . we just miss his imput to the Aero section .  he shared alot of info with us and i think he's realized that this board means more to him then he knew .
the Aero section has become a funny little famiily . thats goes out of there way to help each other with or wing car projects and wing car history . we all share the same luv  ,Aero cars . Daytonalo was one of us .  Rene

I'll take responsibility though (and I'm ok with being the bad guy sometimes). You'll notice in the link I provided that not all of those posts are in the Aero section. There's 3,200 or so other members on the site (not counting the 20,000 unregistered "guests" who read the site each month) so it pays for everyone to think for a second before posting. My goal is to grow the site and not to become an elitist community (there's already way too many of those). If one person keeps 5 more from registering and runs 5 off then are they an asset or liability? What if the 5 are also excellent resources? How about 20 or even 50? The effect is hard to calculate because it's easier to count new members than it is to count missing members or missed opportunities. I love having great information on the site but sometimes the real cost might be too high.

I already knew you wing car guys were strange... :D

Well said, and thanks for shedding some light on the topic Troy.

Wasn't aware the individual had already ran through severl chances. We are all just outsiders looking through the big windows, and trying to catch a glimpse of everything that goes on.

As far as the moderators are concerned, I for one think they do an excellent job.

Then again I tend to stick to this section, so I don't get to see what the other mods do other than Gene.

Troy,
Bottom line...while we would like to have Larry (daytonalo) re-instated, we will back you on the decisions that you make 100%. Most everyone here understands the importance of what you are doing for us. I don't envy you when it comes to making the tough decisions necessary to keep this forum moving forward. I'm sure that those decisions are made even tougher when you have to deal with people who are easily offended. I don't understand why people are so easily offended by some anonymous guy in another part of the world (in most cases) saying something negative about something that they own or something that they are doing, etc.. Maybe we should have penalties (kind of like time-out in kindergarten) for people who commit "forum crimes". For instance, I think flagrant posters should be banned for at least a month and have their post count dropped back to zero. I'm serious, those guys drive me crazy.  ;D

I would like to know how many people that are posting on the aero board are actually owners or builders of either real wing cars or clones or for that matter even really interested in wing cars. We sure seem to get a lot of outsiders here throwing in their 2 cents worth lately. The aero board was started to seperate the wing car topics from the other topics. Was kind of nice when we talked about building wing cars and clones and didn't worry about who said what about who. Let's keep it that way. Personally, I think that if you're not actively involved in the aero part of this hobby, that you should find another place to voice your opinion.

maybe I am not understanding you, but are you saying that if you don't own/build a wingcar or clone, then popping in here and posting up once in a while makes someone a troll?  an outsider?  you are right that the aero board was started to seperate the wing car topics from the other topics, But it is still part of the larger Dodge Charger community.  I don't think it was started to be a private club and you have to provide your XX vin number to participate.    You are part of the whole community, and you can't stop the locals from driving by your house once in a while to shoot the breeze with you just because they don't live on your block.

You post in other forums, but "outsiders" can't post here? Larry went off  outside the Aero section, but nobody but "aero" guys can have an opinion about it?

Hey, I don't know you, but from your posts I have read, you seem like a good guy, and I hope you respond and tell me that I totally misunderstood what you wrote, maybe I did...it's just that I don't consider anyone an outsider who owns or is into mopars.  and i don't think it was about larry "offending" anyone.  who honestly cares that much about what some almost anonymous (sp) person types on a n internet message board, but what he did distracted from all of the good/cool stuff that gets talked about here.  so that's my 2 cents.

Sorry to hear that you had a bad experience with a Mod. Then again it was a one time meeting, not necessarily how the individual would react all the time. I don't know which mod you were talking about, but maybe he was having a bad day.

I don't know.

Just a thought.

I have met Troy, Chris, and Gene all in person, and really enjoyed all the time I've spent with each. Heck I even ate dinner with Troy at about midnight at the Monster Mopar this last year.

The part about separating Aero-related TOPICS is true - the logical leap you made that the Aero board also separates USERS however is not true.

I mean come on... you're basically a troll.

I flatly disagree with this statement.  This is not a club, and it does not require anything much beyond a passing interest in Aero cars to participate.  When we start drawing distinctions like what you outlined, where do you draw the line?  Are owners of XX29 cars any better than those who have built or are building a clone?  Absolutely not.  Are guys with a wing car (original or clone) any better than other Mopar owners?  More weird perhaps, but not better.  :P

The point is, we should not limit the discussion to JUST those people wo are "active" as you say.  There are lots of people who love the cars for what they are, and want to learn more about them.  To stifle their participation because they are not "active" isn't right, IMHO.  We have had several people who do not currently own a wing car, but have owned one in the past.  DC.com member 65post is a great example.  He would be outside "the club" by your definition, but his posts are quite interesting and informative to me.

I find it sad in a way that a thread that is ostensibly about one controversial former member is one of the more poplular threads of the past month.  I really like what you said, hotrod:

Was kind of nice when we talked about building wing cars and clones and didn't worry about who said what about who. Let's keep it that way.

Owning a board like this takes A LOT of work and dedication. Tough decisions are just that, tough....... There should never be finger pointing or name calling.. We ALL live in different circumstances, both good and bad. It's all relative.....

Gene, we would also have to put Dave in the same part then as he no longer has a wing car, but is definately a wealth of information when it comes to the Daytona's and Superbirds.
Ghoste would also be out as he doesn't have an aero car, but definately loves the 500's.

I like having people who don't own the cars in this section. Its not a club, but a discussion board. One slight thing with a discussion though is that some people view some discussions as arguements. I know my wife thinks I argue with my buddies alot, but when we are discussing cars some things become more of heated discussions. The difference being that we are doing this face to face, and can tell when someone is being sarcastic, or serious, and you can also tell when your pushing someone a little too far, and know when to back off and let things go.

I really could care less who posts on this board as long as they're with us and not against us.  It's the guys that troll in here, act like they're interested and then start to complain about something that they've read. Troy's had to boot a few of them and for good reason.
They're kind of like the illegal immigrants that are flooding the U.S.. They come in to the U.S. acting like they have something to add to our society and then proceed to complain about our government, don't work, use our welfare system and weaken our way of life as a whole. Everyone just buries their head in the sand and says that we can't do anything about it.
You don't see me posting over on the Mustang board (I'm assuming there is a Mustang board) because I don't have a Mustang, don't plan to buy or build a Mustang and I wouldn't have anything valuable to add.  I like Mustangs okay, but that's just not enough of a reason to join their group.
This aero board is important to me and several others as well. We've learned to use it as a tool to educate each other about wing cars in general, real or clone. However, there are guys that just don't seem to have anything valuable to add and are just jumping in because they have nothing better to do. As long as they don't try to change things, that's okay. It's the guys that suddenly feel like they're a part of this group and proceed to cause problems that I have trouble accepting.

Geno, I don't seperate the real wingcar owners from the cloners. We're already seperated by default. I passed on my chance to buy that bird in 2000 and now, by my actions, I'm on the other side. Believe me I think about that mistake all of the time.

My basic point is...For you guys posting on this board, you're either with us or against us. If you're with us, welcome aboard, If you're against us, get the hell out. If this doesn't appy to you then that statement shouldn't bother you. If it does, then go ahead and start complaining. It's what some people do best.

Sorry to be the stupid guy, but I guess I'm not getting the "with us or against us".  Who is "us" and what are these goals that force a with or against choice?
I'm not trying to be sarcastic and if this is an example of flagrant posting or being against anyone, I guess I should apologize although I don't really understand the crime.
Is it just me, or is this thread spinning off into a discussion where you feel like you missed out on a whole bunch of behind the scenes information?

Now with regards to your suggestion to have others locked out of the aero section, how 'bout we have two seperate sections, one for the folks that actually own a real aero car and another one for the ones that wished they owned a real aero car.  That way the folks that want to discuss aero cars inteligently can do so undisturbed and the wanabes that are building clones, tribute cars or whatever they're called, can hurl insults at each others cars and laugh about it without concerning themselves with anyones feelings.  Good idea?   :shruggy:

As I reread the posts in this topic, I realize that some people are reading something from my posts that just isn't there. Re-read the posts again...slowly.
I have no problem with people that are interested in the aero cars that get involved with this site. I'm glad that they share their interest in the hobby with us. Who knows, they may buy parts from me some day. I just don't like the...let's say...non-regulars that love to complain a little more than they like to talk about wing cars. This doesn't apply to a single person that I've seen posting on this topic if that makes anyone feel a little better.

As for wing car classifications, I guess I would fall somewhere in the middle. I have a 70 satellite to build my bird clone from and I have all of the parts to build it. I have the charger to build my daytona from and I have most of the parts to build it. But, I don't actually have a clone. Too busy working on other projects right now. I'm always thinking about selling a few of my cars and just biting the bullet and buying a real bird, but then I would have one car to drive instead of several. I think I'll just keep moving forward with the two clones.

Troy and mods...thanks for not locking this topic. I'm hoping that these guys will come to understand that I'm not trying to preclude anyone from getting involved in this site. In fact, I've brought in a couple of new members in the last couple of weeks.

You are WAY off Rene. I was there that night as well, and you came up and busted in to a 4 person conversation and demanded to know who owned the '69 Charger. No "hello", no "excuse me", just a wanna be tough guy entrance. I remember Chris talking to you, and I thought he was very nice to you. I also had another experience with you at the Whiskey. You pulled in with a primered '68 Charger, stopped in the middle of the road and asked my buddy if you could climb into his backseat to see the package tray in his Daytona. Yes Larry is a great craftsman who went waaaaaaaaay out of his way to call out some of us who were discussing the current NASCAR rules and upcoming bodystyles as "white trash", so, even though his judgments of other folks headlight motor fabrications might have some merit in a "IMO" sort of way,.. humble is not a word that can be included in his rational for yanking people's chains... his lack of tact and bloated opinion of his own dogma when in what otherwise might be considered a "discussion", can best be illustrated by his Anti-Union rants or even the going without a thermostat blather..  (sp?). imo...
So let him back on,..  it's fine with me, he's the ones who conducts his own behavior, so what if he likes to play rough with what he conciders the cupcakes,.. I'm not fragile.. nor am i a "knuckle dragger".. imo..  ;D
I'm somewhere in between...

Geez, I go away for a few days and look where this went...  :ahum:

The Aero section was deemed necessary because we had a LOT of topics about wing cars and clones scattered around the site. We have many members who have years of experience and/or extensive knowledge regarding these cars and we needed a place to organize it. It was NOT an effort to separate people into little cliques (that's the absolute last thing that I would do on the site). I cannot and will not treat people differently because the site as a whole is the community and people need to find a way get along.

In the past (and this last year especially) I've had the opportunity to meet a bunch of wing car owners and I never felt like I was out of place or looked down upon. Most were more than willing to share information and just gab about cars in general. By the same token, I've also had the opportunity to meet almost 200 members of this site in person and I have enjoyed every chance. I've spoken to many more on the phone (even Daytonalo) and haven't had any bad experiences. Overall I think we have a great group here but I also think it's all too easy for one person or one event to drive a wedge into that. (I've seen evidence of this rather recently as a reminder.) This site is here for the members so whatever keeps them happy is the direction that it will follow. I don't have the time to write my entire plan or motivation out for everyone but I'd hope that I've earned at least a little bit of trust by now. I also hope that everyone knows that they are more than welcome to provide their opinions or suggestions and that I do take them all seriously. To me, that's the only way to constantly improve.

Troy,
I missed the part where someone wanted to "separate people into little cliques". I'll re-read the thread again and try to find that part. It sure as hell wasn't me.
The only thing that I want seperated is the people that have nothing positive to add to this forum. They have the right to post all they want until they cross that line. Sometimes, I think that the guys that complain are the real problem. :Twocents:

Larry, I meant that the Aero section wasn't added to place members in little groups. I didn't reference anyone in particular because it wasn't meant for anyone in particular. It was just a point I was trying to make. People will gravitate towards others with a common interest whether there is a specific place for them to be or not. I saw enough interest in an Aero section to create one so here it is. It was NOT put here to exclude anyone either. If we weeded out people who posted but had nothing to add there'd be a lot fewer people on the site. ;)

Troy, Sounds good to me. I just know that this site is very important to me as well as many others. I've talked to Larry (daytonalo) and he's missing the site a lot. I don't think he realized how important it was to him. I myself would be devestated if I were banned from the site. I don't float around the internet much and this site is pretty much my home, if you know what I mean. I plan to add a lot more info as far as the cloning stuff is concerned and may pass along some of the things that daytonalo's working on as well since he can't be with us. I feel that the stuff that he's working on will be important to others and would hate for that valuable info be lost just because he can't post it himself.
Again, thanks for the aero board...don't give up on us just yet.

LOL.  Man, I am just sitting here chuckling my ass off over this thread.  I've followed it from the start but only just now realized what a path it's followed.  It started out as an e-bay notifyer and then moved into a discussion about Larry, became somewhat (ahem) contentious for a while and now it's turned to reminiscing about a past car show and looking forward to hooking up at shows this summer.  :icon_smile_big:

So while we are at it, who is going to be at Carlisle this year?

Aren't they going to have a special aero car section this year?

Right now, I am planning to attend Carlisle.  Do you think if I give my argument at the gate about the 66-67 Chargers being the first shot from Chrysler in the aero wars they'll buy into it and let me park with ya'll?

I probably stand a better chance of pissing in the wind and not getting wet, huh?

I'd almost guarantee that another car wouldn't be allowed into that area. They are pretty good at keeping things well organized there at Carlisle. Which to me is one of their best points.

Does anyone know for sure what the special feature car is this year? I had heard it might be the aero cars, but haven't ever heard a definative answer yet.

I heard "wing cars" & "convertibles"

Wish they were doing that wing car feature next year - I'd definitely be ready then.  The website says to contact them if you have a wing car and are going to the event.  They are trying to get the largest ever group of wing cars together, but it will be very hard for them to top the Talladega/DSAC reunion.  I didn't think there was an overwhelming number of wing cars there last year, to be honest.  MonsterMopar blew Carlisle and the 'Nats away as far as wing cars go.

I dunno if I can swing making it to Carlisle this year.  If I still have a parts shopping list, I'll probably go again since it's one of the best Mopar swap meets held.  I really look forward to bringing a car there one of these years!

Hopefully that list will include more than a headlight! ;)

Yep, I kept telling myself that too.

I'm having fun... I'm having fun... No, really, I AM having fun...  Driving 14 hours one-way for a headlamp bulb is not so bad...  :P

Honestly, I did much better this last year than the ill-fated headlight run the year before, and got to take in much more of the car show PLUS meet a lot more cool board members.  I would recommend Carlisle to anyone who wanted to see a major car show done right.

I'd love to, but the question is not whether I want to go to Carlisle, it's whether I can spare the time to do so.  That's usually right in the heart of our busy season at work, and I'm supposed to be taking regular trips up to Michigan to check on Vance's progress.  That will probably chew up what little "play"time I'll have.  If I can swing it, that would be a fun trip to make with ya.

Speaking of road trips with Danny, any chance you could take off a Monday from work sometime soon?  I'm thinking of heading up to see Vance around the 29th (but that date is not chiseled in stone just yet).  I would leave on Sunday afternoon, road trip up to Grand Haven, and spend pretty much all day Monday at Vance's drooling over all the cool Mopars he has sitting around being worked on.  Let me know if you can swing that.  After all the school basketball games are over for the season, I'll be able to make Friday night/Saturday trips instead of having to skip work.  That might be better for you if you can't spare the vacation day.

Boy, this thread's topics have sure meandered around quite a bit!

This is not the best year for Carlisle to surprise us by pulling the "We're going to feature Wing Cars" rabbit out of their hat.    Our club is doing an event in Milwaukee.   Winged Warriors is doing an event in Charlotte.   Both clubs spend good money from their treasuries to put on events that are FREE to attend, with relevant guest speakers, the whole nine yards.

In some ways, Carlisle will simply dilute what the clubs are trying to do, and to me that is personally frustrating.   I wish they had given us the opporunity to coordinate it and really get behind it.  I didn't hear anything about it until the general announcement.   It really caught me by surprise.

I realize there are folks who will not go to Milwaukee,  Charlotte or St Louis for distance reasons.  But we are trying to put on special, memorable events.  Having so many choices waters things down to a more regional level, versus a true national meet.

The St. Louis event (Monster Mopar Weekend) is an awesome show. I was so surprised at the number and quality of the wing cars at the first event that I attended about four years ago. It seems to be growing every year. With the drag racing, vendor midway, the regular mopar show and the decent swap meet, the wing cars are just the icing on the cake. I hope the Carlisle event doesn't affect the MMW show too much. I know that people have to plan their vacation schedules as well as their allotted vacation dollars in advance and sometimes people will attend a show that's much closer to them.

Hey Gene, I have next Monday off of work already. :)

As far as another one, well that depends on if the deal I'm working on goes through. I'm working on getting exclusive video, and photographic rights to 6 major car shows on the west coast. yeah I know its not close to me, but its a deal. If that goes as planned I'll be heading to Arizona on February 2nd for the first show. Otherwise I'm always free on weekends to head up to Michigan.

OH and I think Carlisle is about 580 miles from me, but hey that is only 2 1/2 tanks in the 500. :)
