Title: TRANSMISSION fluid for new converter
Post by: flyinlow on July 26, 2018, 09:19:41 PM
Installing A Hughes converter in my A518 transmission. Mopar says use ATF + 4 for the transmission. Hughes says Hughes Extreme Type F and that many synthetics are not appropriate for there converter.  What fluid should I use?

Lucas sure shift was one of the alternates they recommended.

I called Hughes , they said you can use what ever fluid you transmission builder recommends.(ATF+4) The caution was for more their transmissions with aftermarket clutches . The converter has a lock up clutch but uses stock type friction material.

ATF+4 is fully synthetic (depending on the brand), Lucas Sure Shift is semi-synthetic. Either will work but the +4 will lubricate the constantly-running OD gears better.
