Post by: toqwik on October 24, 2005, 11:49:28 PM
I have a 77 440 I am going to put in my 68 charger.  went to get a dist and need to know if its a b or rb block.  I know rb stands for raised block, but what are the differences and what do I have?

a 440 is an RB block. Check out www.allpar.com it'll have most everything you'll need to know, like crank stroke differences, etc.

440/413/426 are a RB blocks with  LONGER stroke than 400/383/361/350 what are B blocks. Thats the difference. Different parts between B and RB block are those stroke related, like pushrods, block itself, distribuitor, crankshaft, rods. also Main Bearings, ( not rod bearings on most cases )

LOL, and most engine parts dealers here also are impressed. Once I call to a dealer asking for an engine part for a 350 CHRYSLER ( don't remember which one ), and dealer didn't believe me about a 350 CHRYSLER. He told me DON'T YOU MEAN 350 CHEVROLET... I told him, SEARCH ON YOUR BOOK AND YO WILL FIND IT.

we could also talk about 392 Hemi, 303, 241, 315 325, 291, 345, 354, 276, 273 ... the mighty and first Hemi 331 called FIREPOWER. And of course the more traditional and known, SBs 360, 340, 318... 318 LA called Poly, some people call it 318   BIB BLOCK. /6 225...

Have I had forget someone ?

Oh well, 426 wedge and Hemi... ( to make duifference beside displacement )

BTW, a friend of mine has here a 58 Custom Royal Hardtop, with that engine... also a 58 Custom Royal convertible but with a 383, newer one with 6 valve cover bolts, not the 4 bolts one. I don't remember why he changed.

Also has a Chrysler 300 2 doors Hardtop, 1957, that had a 392 Hemi, but tranny went bad don't know whats the problem, and had to change for a 440/727 Combo. Still trying to repair the tranny to isntall the original Hemi 392/727 wired tranny ( push button )

MOPARHOUND I am impreesed again. Heck I all most for got that one. I never talk about the RB 383 on the site, just make the new guys head's hurt and confuse the s-it out on them.

Nacho, I know what your friend is going threw with parts for a 350 Mopar. I had 2 car's that where such a pain to buy parts for.

1953 Packard, ever one asked "how made it" Tell them Packard. "Who makes Packard"? My answer was Packard. To make it worst, the Packard had a in line 6 that had 327 CI! ;) To say more than a few parts people pooped on that one is a understament.

Next was my 427 Ford. You can take it from there. ;)

Heeeey HOOOUND... long time without see you... Nice.

Oh yes, I forgot that 383 RB Sorry :)

DAMN... 6 CILINDERS 327 !!! THATS HUGE!!!

I only know just a little about Mopar made, but not the rest.

Basically what My friend needs to his 350 " Golden Commander" is the gasket set to open it and rebuild. Not sure if needs anything more.
