Title: Holley running EXTREMELY rich
Post by: hemi68charger on March 19, 2024, 07:55:19 AM
Hey gang...

Car: 71 440 six pack Challenger RT
Situation: The motor is idling EXTREMELY rich, black smoke out the exhaust and running really rough at idle. The outboard carbs have been disconnected to eliminate them. None of the 3 carbs has fuel flowing out the booster ventures at idle which typically means high float level. Metering block fuel/air mixture screws only about 1 turn out. My gut says the new power valve from a basic rebuild kit is bad. The car was running fine earlier, so the ignition and timing haven't changed.

Would a vacuum leak from a brake booster make it act like that ?
