Title: Is Fender Tag Theft A Real Problem?
Post by: Ghoste on November 14, 2019, 06:24:50 AM
Dano posted a 3D tag he made for his Charger to prevent theft but it got me to wondering, is fender tag theft really a problem at shows?  I've heard a few times about people worrying over it but I'm not sure I've heard of it actually happening.  Does it?

It is an especially bad problem for those of us with XP 318 cars.  Everyone wants our numbers so bad they can't help themselves.        :smilielol:

In all seriousness, I have no knowledge of this being a problem but my car is a 318 car so the fender tag isn't exactly desirable.     :shruggy:

My hood stays down, just like the deck lid! I prefer to look at the cars with the hood shut!  :yesnod:

Body shops that never put them back after repairs, paint or inner fender replacement maybe (how my Bird plate disappeared).. but you'd have to be pretty bold to unscrew one at a car show. BUT just in case, why my OE tag screws on my Bee are locked from below.

As do my cars at shows.....but in all fairness....I don't own anything valuable enough to warrant people taking my fender tags off any of my cars

Quite a few years ago at a big Mopar show local to me, I do know someone went around with an electric screw driver and stole a handful of fender tags so it does happen....

Sounds like a quick way to lose some 'digits' if you know what I mean!

I remember a post online years ago somewhere about fender tag theft.

It was posted by a guy that had been at every show the tag thefts supposedly happened at & someone mentioned that to him.

Coincidence or ?

I do not recall it being mentioned by any of the alleged victims though......

Just the 'reporter' who 'says' it happened.

So do the math on that.  :Twocents:

I'm just telling you what my lawyer says. If you only take a handful out of the hundreds of cars at a show to weed out fender tag corruption, what's the harm? WITCH HUNT!

:smilielol:

When I made my printed tag I had only heard anecdotal forum/internet stories of fender tag theft, even my car is just a 383 2-barrel so not exactly high on anyone's desirability list. I figure there's only one original fender tag to a car and if I could eliminate the risk of theft or damage to my original, why not? My printed tag(s) aren't fooling any real mopar guys but it's better than a void on the fender well where the tag should be if I want to pop the hood at a show. Worst case it's a fun conversation starter if someone notices and is curious.

Hmm, selling stolen merchandise on ebay isn't a good idea!

there was a lot of tags being sold on ebay a while back...we even had a decent thread started on it in here....probably before Troy's time ....problem is that they were selling, and I doubt they all went back to OE cars, if any....most of the tags were big engines and loaded with options....so that make someone wonder how many cars out there are "built" around the purchased tags.....

Door decals can be faked, VIN plates can be faked.....most here can spot them, but to the untrained eye, or to the right person that has money and has to have that "built car" around the fender tag....they will buy the car without knowing that it's really not as it's advertised

Assume junk yard collection, but the question above my reply was "what would you do with them".
