Title: CDN72SE's Restoration Thread
Post by: CDN72SE on May 26, 2010, 02:36:14 PM
Hi All, I figured I would record my restoration (it will move slowly) here as I spend a lot of time on the site reading and following others restorations. I am also on the 71-74 site. This is my Y8 1972 Dodge Charger SE Brougham (production date 7-71) that I purchased from Nigel at National Moparts it was a rust-free North Carolina car that was parked due to a bad transmission and brought to Canada. To keep it running and because it was also a 318 car I swapped in my old 318 & TorqueFlite 727 from my first SE and drove it for about 5 years. It was last registered and on the road in 1992. It's traveled with me from place to place waiting for a restoration. I guess it's time to track what I will be doing, I am not a mechanic (or a body guy) but I have enjoyed working on my cars since I was young. I learned a lot early on from not having a lot of money to pay someone else to do the work for me. Funny enough now in my 40s I still don't have the money.

This is basically how I bought it in August of 1992, I put on my Western Turbine rims that I had on my previous SE. It did come with 14" Rallye's which I sold to a guy with a Challenger. Then I bought a set of 15x7 Rallyes from Motor City Originals. Shortly after getting it home I added the Year One front spoiler, I also added the dual cut-out exhaust rear valence from a '74, it was pretty rusted, I cleaned it up and painted it, thought it looked cool even though my exhaust was nowhere near the openings. I never would have thought that 17 years later there would be new ones being produced, thanks AMD.

I'm not sure on the colour, I could go original but I probably won't. I'm just adding the parts to it that I like such as the Ramcharger hood, front & rear spoilers, buckets, console with shifter, R/T taillights, hood pins and a tachometer to replace the clock. As far as the engine I will probably go with a 360.

I'd love to hear any comments or suggestions guys/gals.

Yes it has the rear spoiler decklid cut-outs and yes it is the original '72 decklid.  :2thumbs:

Here she sits, March 2007 just after me moved to the new house, double-car garage... finally, now I'll have some room to work on it.

Don't really have a budget, I'll probably fund some of it by selling some of my extra "back-up" pieces (yes still have a few).

This will be a slow restoration that's for sure, I'll be doing as much as I can.

Removed the hood, decklid, fenders, doors, etc.

Quite a bit of undercoating.

Couple of my 318 from my previous 72 that I installed in this car:

Rented an engine hoist from my local Stephenson's Rental, took me about two hours by myself (I did take my time) to get it out, as you can see I left the tranny attached and pulled it out as a unit.

I had to let the air out of the two front tires to give me enough clearance over the radiator frame.

Maybe I could have gone higher with the jack but was a bit fearful that my anchoring bolts on the engine may give way.

Looks awesome man!   :2thumbs:

Keep the pics coming of any progress.

Also, if you're going with Rallye tail lights, let me know if you want to get rid of those SE lenses.

Thanks chargd72, I'd been following your work and you're doing a really nice job. The SE taillight assembly is long gone and an NOS set I had as well, used the cash to buy the Rallye taillights.

Interior
I had removed the interior years ago, originally gold with a benchseat.

I replaced the bench with one green and one white bucket seat that I had purchased and some panels from my previous SE that had the blue interior.

Some of the panels I painted black (bad vinyl spray) and the back seat. I think I'm going to go with a white interior.

Still debating the exterior colour.

Some more, I still have one of the Chrysler issued trash bags that came with the car.

POR-15, peeled in a lot of places, yes I followed the directions, that was applied in 1992.

More - really not bad, the trunk has some surface rust and all floorboards are pretty solid.

Rallye Wheel Center Caps

Decided to do a little cleanup of some '71 Rallye Wheel centre caps (appliques) that I bought off eBay, I have seven in total some are the correct dark (charcoal) colour for '71 and some are the argent silver for 1970. I loosely followed an article that I have from a June 1991 Musclecar Review magazine. Materials I used include: Eastwood's Charcoal Rallye Wheel paint, 000-grade steel wool, chrome polish, 3M masking tape, and new rallye wheel center cap inserts. This is the procedure I followed:

1. Use a fine grade scuff pad like a 3M or Scotch to rough up the area which will allow the paint to adhere. Be sure to get into all the hard-to-reach areas, like lug nut holes.

2. Use the steel wool to to clean the unpainted chrome areas and use a polish to then polish those areas.

3. Mask off the clean chrome areas with 3M masking tape, leave some overhang and then trim off the pieces with a sharp knife or razor blade. Mask the back of the holes to prevent overspray.

4. Then paint the cap keeping the spray approx. 18-30 inches away, remember to turn the cap around a few times to get all the areas and 100% coverage.
(https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4742/39483401024_dc9c545d92_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/23a1Kxw)

Here is the finish product, with a fresh coat of paint and a new center cap insert which I purchased off eBay. I think they look good enough and I spent about 1.5hrs and less than $40. The taping and masking was the time consuming part.

Leaf Springs
Turned my attention to the leaf springs, started to strip them down.

I ordered the Shackle Rebuild Kit from Bill Rolik.

Ordered a new pair of Leaf Spring Center Bolt's from Jim's Auto Parts, that's right Jim's.

Thought I would take a chance, ordered them on the 8th and they were in my hands on the 11th.

They were twice the price of Bill's but I wanted them ASAP. Got Bill's and used his.

Uncovered some numbers:

Had to cut through the bolt and burn the rubber insert to get it out, what a pain. Bought new bolts from MegaParts.

Rear Brakes
Got out the wire brush and the rust encapsulator, these are 10" drums.
(https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4658/40162230112_31ae897594_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/24bZVMj)

I had some red paint kicking around so used it on the drums as I'm using rallye's.
(https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4760/25356342057_2d3010b384_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/ECDT6k)

Think I had changed the rear shoes once since I've owned it, not sure if the hardware is original or not, I did order a kit.
(https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4768/26355041778_f6c66292c5_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/G9UtJ3)

Took care of the backing plates, one finished and one unfinished, I did the vinegar, lemon juice and salt method for removing rust on these. Did an excellent job.
(https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4764/26355059738_41fb588a18_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/G9Uz4G)

I used some rust encapsulator, primer and then some of Eastwood's black steel rim paint that I have kicking around.
(https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4720/39330047525_bb9115108e_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/22VsLTF)

Got the wheel cylinder gaskets from DMT, the wheel cylinders from Canadian Tire and the riveted brake shoes from Napa.

Headlight Buckets
Well I've got a few things on the go and trying not to get too far ahead of myself, been working on the rear leaf springs, rear brakes, heater box and headlight buckets. For now I'm concentrating on the headlight assembly and the heater box. So here are some pics of the start of my headlight and accessories re-fresh.

Drivers side fender with assembly attached:
(https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4656/26355120208_03f3f30c40_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/G9UT3h)

Removed... not much to it, four bolts I'll bag those and clean them up later.
(https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4720/25356456217_57c3df2b77_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/ECEt2B)

Took a bunch of shots of the position of everything for later:
(https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4605/39330254775_a05a19deeb_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/22VtQuX)

Before cleaning, discovered the part numbers and paint marks, looks like we have red, orange and blue and I think black on the different cups, I have to record them:
(https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4704/40227628941_be598c2627_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/24hM7zk)

Here's HI-LO-5-RT-.122 after a bath:
(https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4723/26355189598_ac03baf6fe_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/G9VeEE)

Here's one of the mounts after a little sanding and a few coats of Eastwood's Underhood Black Paint.
(https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4666/40227702021_77c3572bdb_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/24hMuik)

Next I'll finish cleaning the other parts, install the new headlight screws and hardware, reproduce the coloured stripes on the cups, polish the headlight rings and install the new sealed beams.

Heater Box
Compared my original heater box to one I bought off eBay, hoping to make one out of the two, unfortunately the parts one got damaged during shipping. I should still be able to put the two together.

The part number on the unit is 3441978 with 85148 below it.

I've also looked at many other Heater Box restorations on other threads to get some pointers and tips.

Wish I had done my car before I got married, then my car wouldn't have to compete with my wife's list of expenses that are for the family since my car is only for me. Yup college is a prioeity, at least I was driving mine back when I was in college, good times.

 :iagree:

I recently finished school and got a real job (which was priority) before I got my car...    then my girlfriends ring became a priority...   then my fiances house become a priority...   now a wedding is priority....    :icon_smile_wink:    See the pattern here?

All in all, there will always be 'priorities' that seem to take precedence.  Lucky for us, these cars are one of a kind and appreciate everything we do for them when we can.

Well I knew it would be 50/50 on whether I would break the glass or not.

Bought a tool for the removal and used some aircraft wire but I got impatient and managed to crack it, it really doesn't take much at all to break the glass.

Not too upset the windshield wasn't in the greatest shape.

Front Brakes & Components
Started to take apart the front brakes, I will clean up the calipers, maybe I'll rebuild them.

Stripped down the dust shields and paint them black as I do see that they had black paint on them.

I bought new brake positioners and I have a pair of NOS hub grease caps.

Valances
That's the original '72 valance on the left and the one on the right is a '73 piece that I picked up NOS back in '92, I painted it in primer black and installed it on the car. It's still in excellent shape, but I'll be using the '72 (as everyone probably already knows they are different). The rear valance I had to buy, thought I'd better buy one just in case they decide to stop producing them  :shruggy:.

Here is some evidence of where it was painted with some kind of black paint, even have the running paint to prove it. I often see a lot of these left body colour, maybe some are?

Crossmember
You can see how much undercoating I have on the bottom of this car, I plan on removing it.

I guess some options are to just apply more undercoating over what's already there, leave it and patch or... what others have done use Lizardskin and re-cover the bottom.

I have noticed in some spots where I have removed undercoating there is surface rust there so that leads me to believe that no everything is not going to be perfect underneath.

I had the car rustproofed over the years (Rustcheck Shout out to Kelly at Dundas & Wolfedale Rd. location in Mississauga) so I think that helped a lot and helped me dismantle the car with the basic tools I've always owned. I don't think I have ever broken a bolt.

The crossmember I'll de-grease and paint with Eastwood's Extreme Chassis Black.

I bought a set of NOS crossmember bolts, they were cheap, mine were ok but all four were not the same.

Does it make a difference? No, but hey they were NOS and now I can say I have some NOS parts.  :coolgleamA:

Ramcharger Setup
Well here's some of my Ramcharger parts, looks like I am missing one end cap or flapper or whatever you call it.

Think I will be ordering one from PG Classics. I've bought many parts from them and the delivery is quick and the packaging is very good and oh yes the parts are nice as well.  :2thumbs:

Undercoating & Removal

Well, on sunday I got my propane torch and putty knife and decided to start removing the undercoating, I am planning on replacing it at some point.

The bottom of the car is starting off very easily, I think mainly because I used to get the car rustproofed so it's kind of supple.

I haven't come across any rust yet, I know there is a little bit of surface rust where the gas tank resides, there was no undercoating there as the undercoating was applied after all the components were already on the car.

Needed the torch on the stuff in the wheel wells and the front wheel well area.

I almost regret removing it but I didn't want to take a chance of their being rust present.

Here are some before pictures showing how much coverage the car has.

You can see the little patch that is missing and how clean it is underneath:

The whole floorpan basically looks like this, I was trying not to scratch it too much with the putty knife.

Title: Re: CDN72SE's Restoration Thread
Post by: CDN72SE on June 08, 2010, 01:07:59 PM
Hi 69*F5*SE, I'm thinking of cleaning it up, scuffing it and maybe spraying some of Eastwood's Rust Encapsulator and/or some Extreme Chassis Black and then using some Lizardskin as undercoating as I've read others on the board doing. I'm not sure if that's too much overkill or not as I will only drive it in nice weather. It has survived all these years as is so.... I'm not getting the undercarriage painted so I figure I'll go this route. After all it is only a 72 SE  ;).

I did a lot of my parts in the eastwood chassis black on the charger, Purchased a gallion and a cheap $30 HVLP spray gun from them it worked great.
I did the under carrage of  my ram pickup with their gator back bedliner kit and sprayed the inside frame rails with the sealing wax oil they also sell, but didn't do it to the charger. Great job your doing :2thumbs:

If you would like to kill as much rust as possible before applying the other coatings there's a product called Picklex 20 that you can apply that will convert the rust into a non-living animal.  It's a little expensive but, it works.  It can be applied using a spray bottle or a natural bristle paint brush (I used both). A scotch brite pad can be used to work it into the heavier rusted areas.  It will also remove light surface rust when using a scotch brite pad.  It's an extra measure of prep in knowing the rust will not pose future problems.  It also will keep bare metal from rusting for a long time if kept dry and inside.  Just thought I would throw this out at yiu if you have the interest.  Good luck   :2thumbs:

Definitely have the interest, thanks. Looks like a great product and they ship to Canada as well, that's always a bonus. I appreciate the suggestions, do I use the green scotch brite pad?

Post by: 69*F5*SE on June 09, 2010, 12:10:12 PM
I don't know if the regular household green scotch brite will hold up or not.  I used red scuffy pad from autodody supply near by.  If you decide to purchase Picklex 20 let me know and I can walk you through its characteristics before using it.  I'm not telling you to buy it but if you think it might be something you would use and may have a need for during your resto, I have used it several times and it has helped me out.  But, I will add that you can only apply epoxy primer over it "NO ETCHING PRIMER".  It already has an acidic effect with the metal.   :2thumbs:  Ted

Hey there Axels73Charger, thanks for the encouragement, yes it's quite a bit of work. I'm taking a few days off in september to try and get it done once and for all. I actually only spend about four hours a week on it. A lot less than I would like but with family life and all it doesn't leave me much time.

Rear Axle & Differential

Thought I'd do a little cleaning of the axle, what a lot of caked on grease.

I may replicate some of the paint daubs and markings not sure yet.

Main goal is to strip it down, prime it and coat it with some of Eastwood's Extreme Chassis Black.

With the differential I think I'll hit it with some Detail Gray.

Not too much to show lately, still removing paint from around the trunk and front & rear window gutters.

Not very interesting stuff so I've kind of been starting other little projects as an aside.

Figured I'd take the plunge and buy a new Spectra gas tank, of course it's cheaper to buy it in the States and have it shipped to Canada, even though it's Canadian made there is not much choice as to where to purchase it here and it's more than double the price.

Mine is dented quite a bit, so to avoid hassles I thought I'd purchase new.

Started going through my stash of Slapstick shifter stuff, before AMD came out with theirs I purchased some original brackets off ebay.

I'm going from column to floor shift.

I also started stripping the front and rear bumper brackets.

Will use some rust Encapsulator on them followed by some Eastwood's extreme chassis black.

Bucket Seats

My car was originally a benchseat model, ember in colour. I replaced that soon after I got the car with a pair of mismatched buckets; drivers side is white and passenger green. Both I painted with some cheap vinyl spray, duct tape and cheap seat covers.

I recently ordered some white front seat covers from Dante's. The plan is to colour match the interior with the front seats, I'll be switching the interior from black to white. Here's the seats as they sit.  :'(

Recently received my covers from Dante, very nice Legendary covers, I'll tackle these myself a little later.

Some interior color change. I lightly went over the panels with a scotchbrite pad on some of the scratches and followed the SEM procedure, here are some of the results:

I'll put the refresh of my grille here as I work on it. Not a bad set-up does have a bit of the usual pitting but not too bad and nothing broken.

Received my set of KYB shocks from Just Suspension, these are to replace the set I last bought in 1991.

I was tempted to re-use them because the car has mostly been off it's suspension all these years.

I did have to cut the two rears off so that swayed me to buy a new set.

They are sort of a dark silver colour, look good but I thought I would paint them black, three more to go.

I paid US$125 for the set, in 1991 I paid CAD$105 just for the front!

Also picked up some suspension parts from Rockauto. The shipping to my Toronto office was not bad at all, and the prices were worth it. Still need to get some sway bar end link bushings and a couple more things.

Rear Taillights

Decided to take a look at these this past weekend, I have one NOS black and one a nice argent taillight.

The plan is to re-finish them both with the tri-colour effect, black, grey (or darker argent) and argent.

I am not too concerned with them looking OEM exact.

I've got so many different cans of silver, argent, aluminium, grey it's getting nuts so whatever I have on my shelf that is the closest I think I will use.

Here's the black bezel.

(https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4766/40265752721_aa037153da_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/24m9vrT)

and the argent:

(https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4672/25394954557_d02dc40cac_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/EG4Mf6)

Started masking:
(https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4611/39554763914_d403330f50_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/23gjvfb)

Got it painted:
(https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4715/25395089457_e742873c45_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/EG5tkX)

Ready to spray some argent I had kicking around for the outer part of the bezel:
(https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4720/26393695908_8fd34693ec_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/GdjAfy)

Thought I'd share my mistake, I painted these two bezels two weeks apart and somewhere along the line I mixed up the finishing paint.

One I used Eastwood's Spray Gray and the other is Detail Gray.

I think the top is Detail Gray, when I have made the correction I'll straighten it out.  :brickwall:

Well at least I have two different samples.

Rust Bullet

Applied the first coat this past Sunday and used about half of the one gallon container; I did the engine compartment, the interior, tail panel and most of the trunk, I used a sponge roller.

Fast foward and I realize that I will not be able to get into all the nooks and crannies so I decide to take my pair of fenders to Technostrip (www.technostrip) which is close by here in Brampton, Ontario.

$300 for the pair, came out really nicely and just so nice to see so clean.

Good to see ya here Foreman! CDN72SE, I'm real interested in how that Rust Bullet is performing. There are many areas I want to use it on my 70, like trunk and interior but their website talks about timing 2nd coats and having to apply a prep product to re-coat after it's cured. How's it behaving in use? I'm using Rust Encapsulator (From Eastwood.) with good results so far, it sands, fills in and coats (And re-coats) pretty nice. I've found I can kinda use the natural sheen as a "guide coat" telling me where I've missed sanding or have high or low spots. I've read here the Bullet is very tough, hard to sand between coats. Are you having any issues with that?
Title: Re: CDN72SE's Restoration Thread
Post by: CDN72SE on October 19, 2011, 03:49:04 PM
Hey B5, I won't be able to coment on the durability or the longevity of it because the car is just sitting in my garage. It went on really nicely and seems very tough, I did put two coats on it. It fills nicely and levels out nicely as well. I've also used Rust Encapsulator on some bumper brackets and misc. parts as well as the roof of the car and it does do a nice job. It's nice to see some colour on the car even if it is a rust preventative product.

I've haven't got to any sanding yet so we'll see when the time comes for the primer.

Title: Re: CDN72SE's Restoration Thread

I'm kind of tired of the Y8, I am thinking of maybe Y9 Tawny Gold, B5 or B2. I know some people say "not anothe B5 car" but living in Southern Ontario, Canada I don't see any Chargers of any color or many Mopars actually driving around unless it is at a car show and then it's usually red or black. So I am safe color wise, I know the interior is going to be white.

Here's why:
Safer, color stands out well in fog, rain, snow and at night. B5 has many options for interior colors, white, black, tan, blue all complement nicely. Correct vintage color for the classic muscular body lines of a Charger, makes the shape stand out more. (In a sea of mostly silver/black/white newer cars.) Still looks good kinda dirty, gold and light blue cars I've had only really "popped" when spotless clean.
It's my favorite color if you haven't guessed.....

"Only" a '72 SE? Ouch.

Have the k-frame kicking around the garage so I thought I would start sprucing it up a bit.

Unfortunately I did not loosen the front nuts on the strut rod when they were attached to the LCA's and on the car.

This makes it a bit more difficult to keep the rod from spinning when turning the nut.

Did a search on the topic and read about the idea of using a torsion bar tool, have one of those, now I have a second use for it.

Tightened it and stepped on it with my 245lbs and turned.

Success

I purchased Moog kit K7026, but I think I may end up just buying the bushings and re-use my original parts.

Yes these are the originals that were on there.

Hey Ryan, I've been following your resto and congrats on what you have accomplished so far  :2thumbs:. I've been doing little things here and there; soda blasting fenders and other misc pieces, freshening up the rear defogger unit and am about to rebuild my lower door hinges. I'll try and get some updates soon.

My car has been stripped for over a year now, and my best (financial) option at this time was to buy some Spraymax 2k primer that comes in a rattle can and get it somewhat covered. also took the opportunity to see how the AMD valance fits, it actually fits better than I first thought. Here's a pic.

Thought I would put the YOM plate on for fun.

Not to overstate the obvious but do by all means get it covered with something.  A buddy of mine is redoing a 68 Shelby and stripped it and then let it sit too long and had to go back to square one.

Thanks guys, a sweaty palm or splash of water really results in quick rust formation and I understand from reading the forums that just because you can't see the rest it's forming.

Door Hinges
My door's have never closed (hinged) correctly and I was never really sure what part(s) I may be missing for the hinges. One side had a roller the other didn't, one side had the little piece the roller rolls on and the other didn't and the hinges were just loose.

Many years ago I bought the door pin and bushing repair kit from the local parts store (Canadian Tire) and had it laying around, then I thought I may need something better.

I purchased the Door Hinge Pin Kit you see on the right in the first picture.

(https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4658/38495310560_ce18e972e7_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/21DGwF3)

Bought the drill bit and gave it a shot, had a hard time with the drill bit and then gave up.

Figured I would bite the bullet and get the hinges rebuilt instead of buying the new AMD hinges.

Searched around with what others were saying and decided on SMS.

Here they are cleaned up and lubed and the rods and rollers look very solid, better than originals.

Rear Defogger
Rather simple just took apart, soaked some parts in Evaporust and others I stripped and repainted. The finish may not be exactly correct but in my opinion looks better.

It's a 69, he says tell me what you notice wrong with this car, he opens the door and it's got a Pistol Grip shifter, says he tried to talk the customer out of it but it's what he wanted. Nice car, but does have some odd customer requested finishes on it.  A few others in the showroom that are in for a bit of work.

Actually I bought a set new from the dealer back in 1986, special order and never put them on. My originals at the time were still in good shape, this is one receipt for two pieces, each $18.75 Canadian, that day I spent a grand total of $40.13. Times that by two and that's a grand total of $80.26.

Amazing what 30 years can change in pricing... and repro stuff at that instead of OEM.

Yeah pretty amazing, have been going through my parts receipts, I may be brave enough one day to ad them all up, lol.

I cleaned both my cars up in '89 for peanuts, with used OEM parts and a few things from Year One!

Today I have $16K Cdn and change into parts sitting waiting to put my 'Bee back together and have already spent $23k and change on metal and resto labour to date. Damn good thing I only paid my father $3200 for the car...

Yeah I used to drop by the dealer and the wreckers and Year One, who seemed to be the only game in town. Bought my repro rallye rims from MCO, Motor City Originals, lol.

That Bee will look amazing. My guy says probably looking at 60 - 80 hours of metal and body work, says it's the cleanest car he has ever seen come back from the blasters.

We'll have to get together when they're done!! After the 53 hours of hand stripping paint and removing windows, mine then had 25 hours of media blasting, 4 hours to epoxy prime and 93 hours of jig frame mounting and metal repairs as of April 1st. So 14 more hours as of yesterday and Drew had today off! Figure by the time rear frame rails and trunk floor are in another 50 hours in metal.... then body work!  :eek2: :brickwall: :yesnod: :hah:

Well one of my biggest restoration fears came true, got a text (not a phone call) from the owner of the resto shop saying he has terrible news. He says his fight to maintain overhead at the shop was lost after his horrific winter (lack of business) and he has been locked out of the shop. I need to remove my car this Saturday between 11am - 2pm. Says he is re-opening May 1st and the car is not in paint.

My wife was suspicious of him from the beginning, I had a few doubts but saw progress, then things seemed to slow down, wanting money in advance, no more update photos and what I realize now were mounting excuses as to why the car was not painted. Of course he is not answering my calls and I don't know if the car is assembled or in pieces. Guess I will find out in two days. Needless to say I am sick to my stomach.

So that's my update and wish me luck!

I'm sick to my stomach for you!  :eek2:

Make a list of everything you can remember that you took to the shop. or what would have been removed during disassembly. It will help make sure you collect, hopefully, every part of your car.

GOOD LUCK!

Thank you much appreciated, I was watching how your resto was going and compared it to how mine had slowed down and was wondering.
Good idea on the list, I have started compiling it, at least I have been in communication with the owner now, looks like the hood and trunk need to be installed by me I guess. But the rest is together, at this point I don't want to hear his stories just want to get it home.

CDN72SE sorry to hear that.  :brickwall:

Anytime someone has work done on a car that's on going and lengthy in progress the shop is prone to life events happening (usually bad) especially if the restoration is done by a less staffed business. Not saying yours was but it does happen. I fear the time I will have to take my car in for any reason. It would be something that would only take a day to fix and I would be on scene the whole time.

Here's to good luck on retrieving all of your parts and getting your Charger back home safely.

Thank you everyone, nice to hear from people who understand. Looks like he ran out of money and may also be a bit of a scammer.
I have learned that you need to keep engaged with them, drop by the shop if you can, call/text. Take an interest and don't just throw money at them.
Ask for pictures/progress, be informed. I think what helped me is that I know my car and I sound informed what speaking with them, show them what you know.
Luckily forums and magazines have helped me over the last few decades with proper terms and a pretty good understanding of the processess.
Others lost tens of thousands of dollars at this place and are out for his head.

Hopefully when I get there Saturday the car is as good as it looked the last time I saw it. I'm having it transported to the guy's former employer for them to finish the resto.

Sorry about this set-back.  I hope you can recover the car and continue with someone else where the other shop left off.  It looks like it will be a beautiful car when finished.  The work so far is impressive.  Good luck.

Thanks TPR, yeah I had to calm my wife down and try and keep her cool, she wanted to kill the guy. At the moment I just wanted to get all my stuff back and then later take some kind of action. The bailiff said the situation could have been a lot worse. He was actually telling me he will have a new shop and ready to go on May 1st, so I could bring my car back... incredible.

I actually got it towed about an hour away to the shop I really wanted to take the car too in the first place. These guys I have full confidence in.

I have to say the body guy was a real stand-up guy and did a nice job and actually cared about my car.
The new shop was saying how nice my car is and that it will only need minimal work to get it ready for eventual paint.

I like women that need a big bra. This is because I like big boobies.
I like cars that need at last 89 octane to run right. Cars with higher compression make more power, more compression requires more octane.
I like a car that handles well without riding like a lowered mini truck. Some cars built to handle well are stiffly sprung. Lowered mini trucks from the 80s often rode on the bumpstops which results in a very bouncy ride.
Never marry any woman that has cheated on you, is or was a stripper, has had more than 2 abortions or was once a man. I have no direct experience with these. Just opinions.
I like Mexican food, Chinese food and all sorts of American food. I have never had a Vegemite sandwich. Never tried Thai, Russian, Indian or French food either. No interest in those nor German. The father in Law is from Iraq so I have tried several Middle eastern dishes. It has been hit and miss with that stuff.

Turning my attention to the gauge cluster, my original had the clock and cut-out for some 80's cassette deck I had in there.

(https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4663/40385304191_8537635d14_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/24wHeW8)

Installed a new tachometer from Charger Specialties in place of the clock, also changed the lens to one without the hole for the clock thingy.

(https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4740/25513286657_a411c5c187_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/ESwgfH)

(https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4613/25513339587_78cc78baaa_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/ESwwZi)

Next I used a silver craft paint pen to go around the edges to make things look better.

(https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4750/40391836301_5566655edc_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/24xhHGH)

Used some SEM Trim Black to spray the dash frame.

(https://live.staticflickr.com/7842/33672420888_1dc54ed9cc_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/TivXAQ)

(https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4619/25513400477_bd44ff58f2_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/ESwR68)
Also went over the surrounding and the Charger SE emblem with the same pen.

(https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4658/25513150217_4581ff1b2b_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/ESvyGi)

Since I had the pen out I did the dash vent as well.

Hope you have better luck with the Charger Specialties tach than I have.
I bought two. One was stored inside for 2 years and did not work when installed.
Second one worked but reading was way off. About 50% off. It then sat in an un-driven car and was totally dead 2 years later.
Complete waste of around $500 on my part. Never again.

Dropped by the shop last Thursday to drop of my Hood Pin kit that I bought decades ago at a local car show.
Just some more random shots, not a lot of progress, could be in paint next week.

Kit was produced by D.C.S., did a quick Google search and it looks like they are still around. (actually think it's Dales Cuda Shop)

Progress update for this week. Panels are off and sanded.

The large panels to go in for primer tomorrow and following that the car body is going to be shot in colour on the firewall, underneath and in the passenger compartment all in colour.

The car will be primed on the outside with slicksand and the panels will be installed and blocked to the car, then the car will go into the booth for final paint.

Looks awesome! In the first pic there is a guy holding a coffee cup. Look at how his jaw has dropped looking at it. Is that base/clear or single stage? The bottom looks so nice. Are you undercoating it or leaving as is?  :2thumbs:

Yeah hadn't noticed him, lol. Embarrassingly enough I am not sure but i think it is base/clear, I've asked  :scratchchin:. I was leaning toward going back to full undercoating as it was from the factory but got convinced to just do the wheel wells, think I will like that better anyway.

I didn't think you would want to cover up that beautiful paint with undercoating. I think a yearly check underneath to touch up chips is all you will need.

Next step, final block and the colour will be shot on the outside, hopefully before the end of the week, if not, Tuesday it will be shot. So when I get back from my family vacay in The States it should be done.

I'll be celebrating Canada's 150th birthday in the US, lol. We are heading to the Hoover Dam and The Grand Canyon, for the first time ever, first stop will be Vegas for a couple of days.

I have been going through your thread. I don't mean to be nosey but how much did you have to spend just on the body to get it ready to paint? Im working on my 71 and trying to decide which way to go. Thanks in advance. Mine has basically the same problems yours had.

Kind of a long story, first shop quoted me $10-12,000k Canadian for the full job which includes paint. I paid more than that but I will use that figure. Add what I have paid at the second shop $10,873.0 add together and you get CAD$20,873 (US$16,036) approximately. That would be before paint. I'm scared when I add up the exact amount I spent.

Dropped by the shop yesterday and snapped some pics, next is cut and polish to bring out the metallic and get rid of a couple of imperfections.

The car is a bit dusty and under different light making the colour look a little darker.

Definitely a big blue car.  :yesnod:

Suspension and steering at the moment. I cleaned up my torsion bars so I could paint them. Then I realized that I never restored the starter shield or the two shield between front valance and wheel wells. I removed what was left of the paint and soaked the rest. Awesome stuff!

B5, we were joking that it may be B6 as it looks like it falls between B5 and B7. I gave the shop one of those PPG chip charts for '71 GB5 and that's what they used.
It is getting cut and polished now and the painter said it should really pop out in the sunlight.

I agree it is definitely going to pop once it hits the sun.

I am a fan of the show, did he say if it will be on the show next season?
Title: Re: CDN72SE's Restoration Thread
Post by: CDN72SE on July 28, 2017, 09:50:17 AM
Yeah it does, I know that the metallic in the paint needs to come out more. I was a little taken back when I first saw it at a distance it looked like like a solid enamel blue type of colour until I got closer. But I do know the lighting really plays tricks on what it looks like. I don't really go to car shows or run into any old Mopars anywhere so it's hard to judge how correct it is. I'm just going by if I like it or not and it's a pretty incorrect car anyway, lol.

The show sent me a waiver to sign giving permission for them to show my car on the show (so it may be on), they are still filming the upcoming season so it would be cool if they showed it.  :2thumbs:

Dropped by the shop today to drop off my vinyl top stainless trim. They said my new 20 year old Legendary vinyl top had a really nice grain and was very good quality.

The car is mostly cut and polished, was still a bit dusty. Should be ready to come home in another week.

I know that the metallic in the paint needs to come out more. I was a little taken back when I first saw it at a distance it looked like like a solid enamel blue type of colour until I got closer. But I do know the lighting really plays tricks on what it looks like.

Yes it does. I am new to Mopar stuff but looking around on the web (since I have a GB7 '71 Road Runner project), half the B5 cars look like B7 and half the B7 cars look like B5 to me.

You can't really see the metallic in B7 either until you get pretty close:

Photobucket (curse them) really hosed a lot of build threads like this one, but I'm glad I got to see the end result of your paint quest. Looks great!

Thanks for the pic, at times it does look like B7. I do like the way the car turned out, funny when non-car/mopar people ask what color I am painting my car and I say blue, they always say Blue? I guess it cars aren't black, grey, silver or white they can't picture it.

Yeah photobucket really messed everyone up, I think I will slowly replace the images when I have time.

Well the car is done but with three cars and two parking spaces we decided to widen the driveway.

Driveway should be finished this weekend and I will take delivery of the car soon after.

Definitely going to miss my double-car garage during the re-assembly process.  :'(

Started doing a few things, trying to get the boxes to slowly disappear that are filled with parts. Just installed my 20+ year old hood pins.
Pretty simple, was just cautious when drilling to make sure the drill didn't slip.

Had a bit of a mild spell the other day, so I dug up my trunk weatherstrip that I had kicking around for quite some years.

Watched a few YouTube videos to aquatint myself. My biggest challenge was trying to figure out what side glues to the body.

Figured that out and applied a thin film on the weatherstripping and on the body of the car. Have to say that 3M adhesive is very good.

Got the body plugs installed as well, used some Dawn dish soap on a few of them to get them in place.

Good to see you get going on her!! At least you did the weather strip correct.. even with pictures supplied of my original 3 guys at my resto shop glued mine in upside down and in the wrong place across the rear edge. Had to order a new one so I can supervise them doing it again for free!  :brickwall:

Some purchases from MegaParts.

Don't think I actually need the door body plugs as I can't see where I can actually use them.

Also don't need the spoiler brackets as they do not work with my spoiler that I had bought in the late 80's.

And still debating about the headlight decal.

(https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4552/24578972788_5ee78f83ce_b.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/DrXEhU)

Then I placed an order with Year One, haven't purchased from them in years, thanks to the 30% off I purchased the following:

Door weatherstrip was from Metro - Supersoft

The Jack sticker and Hidden Headlight decal (wanted the green one) both came from Dale's Cuda Shop.

I really like your Charger and this build thread. But be different, don't put a spoiler on it unless you already drilled the holes in the deck lid.

Everyone seems to have spoilers on 3rd gen Chargers but IMO they don't belong on them even though it was a factory option (or dealer option, not sure which one). Also a small percentage of people putting spoilers on 3rd gens put on the wrong ones or have them on backwards. Or even worse, home made ones.

I know I'm a huge underdog on this debate and most of the time I don't even bring it up because it just leads to arguments.

Either way I'll still like your awesome Charger, spoiler or no spoiler.

Keep up the good work.  :2thumbs: :2thumbs: :2thumbs:

Hey Vegas, I put the spoiler on to change things up a bit for myself having owned it since 1991. I was a bit unsure in the beginning since it's an SE model and not what I think people see as a performance model like a Rallye or a 71 R/T. So I thought it may look a bit out of place. The trunk lid did have the provisions for the rear spoiler and I did drill the holes a few years ago for the spoiler.

To be honest I cannot remember the last time I saw any Mopar let alone a 71-74 Charger on the streets here in Southern, Ontario, Canada. You just don't see them. I did go to a local car show once and did see a few third gens and none of them had spoilers. Same with B5 being a popular colour according to a lot of people, just don't see them around here. Most people don't even know what my car is, lol. I live in the land of SUV's and imports. I also have the front spoiler  :icon_smile_big:.

Thanks for the comments they are much appreciated, you will see that my car will end up being somewhat different from when I first got it.  :2thumbs:

Picked up a couple more parts.

Pulled the trigger and bought a repro fuel filler neck, now to do something with the other four I have collected over the years, long, short who knows what i have.

Clips for the ramcharger hoses, already had some black but thought I would go with the more original looking ones.

Should be the short version being a '72. 73/74 longer due to the rubber fillers extending the rear bumper more outwards.

Thanks Vegas, lined it up against my original and it's a match, I guess the other two I have were the one's that people advertise as 71-74 but they are really 73/74.

Juts continuing to do little things, didn't want to spend money replacing the rear axle bumpers so I re-used what I've got.

Here they are after being removed for the first time, full of dirt and partial undercoating:

Soaked the brackets and screws in Evaporust, wiped on some RPM. Used a wire wheel to clean up the bumpers and sprayed a couple of coats of SEM black.

Thanks Wayne, was just looking at your thread and wanted to remind myself where you got your exhaust, I see it is from ECS. I've never had to purchase a full exhaust system before and it may be worth my while to purchase a system on line instead of towing my car back and forth to the exhaust shop (was looking at Hot Rod Scott's) who is sort of near me.

I know Accurate Exhaust has a system as well, not that my engine is ready to go yet.

I used ECS as David made me the deal of a lifetime, with me shipping him my original 383 head pipes so they could make a jig to reproduce them. Made me a free set, returned my originals as well, threw in free tail pipes and I had to buy the date coded mufflers at a slight discount. He paid for Fedex shipping down of my parts and I paid shipping back. Absolutely THRILLED with how perfect they are!

That said, I am told that Accurate makes good pipes as well if you don't want or need date code mufflers. I couldn't get a quote out of them in writting. I believe that Moparnation74 used Accurate for his pipes (BUT might have been Gardner for his pipes, ECS for the mufflers. Believe we both got our clamps from Frank Badalson. EDIT.. Justin used Gardner..

**Update, Tom Barcroft says hello to you. Unfortunately they are not catering to the 71 and up b-body crowd yet, don't have all the specs yet to produce assembly line correct pieces. Thanks for the lead though.

Yeah it's reminiscent of all those 1/24th scale models I did as a kid.
I signed a waiver giving permission just in case they did show it. I think I will email them at the Guild and see if it is on the show. I know they put together a video for YouTube showing the vinyl top installation but I haven't seen that yet.

Realized my old mirrors did my shiny doors an injustice so I purchased a pair of replacement mirrors from Classic Industries. They look very nice though the stile line on the mirror is not as crisp as the original, it does come with an odd plastic gasket and screws that are not like the originals. Think I will keep my original gasket and mounting screws. Here they are, just noticed the box says E-body.

In case you can't tell the repro is on the left; my original on the right has a bad replacement mirror over top of the original cracked mirror.

1971-74 E Body side mirrors are the same as 1971-72 B Body (or vise versa).

1970 E Body on an island of it's own.
1973-74 B Body same.

You'll see a lot of eBay adds stating side mirrors for 1971-74 B Body, WRONG!!

And wow what shitty screws that OER gives for those mirrors, not even close.

Actually I did see a second sticker on the box that said b-body 71-74, I did learn years ago after falling into that trap about all 71-74 mirrors being the same; as you state 73-74 are different.
Yeah the screws are a joke.

(https://farm1.staticflickr.com/971/41001514334_082f50a66a_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/25tatJW)

And applied some of that caulk from DMT to replace what was there, think it was there so the panel and the support didn't make any rattling noise.

Here's my latest purchase, time to start putting those rear quarter windows back, picked these up from National Moparts here in Canada, this is the place I actually bought my car back in '92. Hey Nigel.

(https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1766/29154056128_108e4070af_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/Lqfab9)

Removed the old seal, the new seal slides in and this little metal tab goes through the whole in the rubber seal.

Used some silicone spray as the seal was a very tight fit; which of course you want.

(https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1790/43297005972_204c64333a_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/28Y1tqY)

As we know with most repro parts they are usually a little off, the hole that was drilled in the seal was out of place so I had to drill a new whole and it had to be a little more oval for the rubber seal to fit over it.

(https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1768/29476325948_443f2a2ea4_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/LUHSLm)

Regulator Track Assembly
This was mostly in good condition, soaked the one bracket in Evaporust along with the "T" nuts and coated with RPM.

Painted the track and bracket with Eastwood's Galvanised spray just to give it a uniformed look.

Cleaned all the springs, bushings, bolts, retainers.

Not much going on right now, finished off the trim, struggled a little bit with not gouging the paint as I slid the trim over the clips. Put my old corner check chrome back on, was tempted to replace them bit fo rnow I will keep them.

Not a lot going on lately but I thought I would throw up my my bumper jack that I just freshened up.

(https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/47706789141_21736f1693_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2fFFLkg)

As other members have done, I used some grey primer that was kicking around and used Eastwood's Diamond clear to coat it.

Decal I got from Dale's Cuda Shop, the tire iron may actually be from my dad's long gone '76 Royal Monaco.

Back in the day I actually used this jack (yes the car slipped off a few times and distorted the slot in the bumper) now I will just tuck it in the trunk.

Please look away if you don't like rear spoilers on third gens.

Got the spoiler, pedestals and a mounting kit from Year One a long long time ago, it's the fibreglass one. Sprayed it with a few coats of SEMs black.

Purchased the black brackets last year from Jamie at MegaParts, helps stabilise the spoiler and prevent the lid from indenting.

Thanks Timmy, much appreciated.

Kent, it arrived safely eh, it does come slightly curved in a box which is fine with me. Will flatten out. I usually get my car stuff delivered to my office, all the boxes always cause such excitement, lol

Turned my attention to the original Washer Pump that came with the car. Pretty greasy and grimy, partly because I used to get the car oiled (Rust Check) for quite a few years back in the day.

Took everything apart cleaned with a q-tip and a toothbrush, also soaked the one part in Evaporust and then cleared it with Eastwood's diamond coat.

Used some Back to Black on the hoses to give a little colour back and flexibility.

(https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/47653434422_cdb9bf8d5c_b.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2fAYiQj)

Now, to get the plastic washer and strainer in the bottom of the reservoir and tighten the strainer.

Tools used, 7/8 deep socket (shout out to @dadsbee) and dry cleaner hanger.

Dropped the plastic washer in the reservoir, used the hanger with a hook on the end to position the washer over the washer pump threads.

Then took the cardboard sleeve that comes on the hanger and pushed it over the top of the strainer, hand tightened using the cardboard "rod".

Went in with the socket and tightened it up.

The Reservoir is obviously new that I mentioned earlier that I got from Megaparts.

Windshield Washer Hose and Squirters, screws and t-fitting, again original to the car.

Soaked the squirters briefly in Evaporust and sprayed them with some of Eastwood's Rich Zinc Galvanize spray.

Still need to buy the ribbed hose that runs from the washer bottle to the t-fitting.

Wow they cleaned up great! That Eastwood paint looks like it did the trick proper!
I remember when I was a kid and didn't have the proper tools I used a coat hanger bent in the shape of a 7/8 socket to install my pump in my R/T. It did do the trick and never leaked. I like the socket Idea a whole lot better.
She is looking fine!

Every once in a while I take a little break to do some de-rusting in my big tub of Evapo-rust or I use some Boeshield T-9 that I have seen quite a few members use to protect some parts.

Here's my latest purchase, time to start putting those rear quarter windows back, picked these up from National Moparts here in Canada, this is the place I actually bought my car back in '92. Hey Nigel.

(https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1836/42123971525_965865b997_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/27bmna8)

(https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1810/42123971635_0eedb46883_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/27bmnc2)

(https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1766/29154056128_108e4070af_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/Lqfab9)

Removed the old seal, the new seal slides in and this little metal tab goes through the whole in the rubber seal.

Used some silicone spray as the seal was a very tight fit; which of course you want.

(https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1790/43297005972_204c64333a_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/28Y1tqY)

As we know with most repro parts they are usually a little off, the hole that was drilled in the seal was out of place so I had to drill a new whole and it had to be a little more oval for the rubber seal to fit over it.

(https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1768/29476325948_443f2a2ea4_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/LUHSLm)

Is nice to have those seals available. Unfortunately they don't seal as good as the originals. I got the first version made and they used to get wrinkled on bottom when you rolled up the door glass because the outer lip was not glued on bottom to the rest of seal. Newer versions got this apparently corrected because I have those to replace the first repros I got and could note the correction. But the metallic reinforcement built into the seal is still somehow shorter ( like the first ones I got ) and not extends to all the seal into the door glass so doesn't add all the pressure to seal up perfect to the door glass. When I was driving at high speed I could heard and feel the air coming into the cab throught the seal. No need to say what happened when I washed the car of course.

Dunno If I explained it well.

Understood Nacho, hopefully I will actually be driving the car this year so I can see where all my issues are. I'm just glad there was an option out there for me.

Speaking of... just bought this reproduction accelerator pedal from P.G. Classics. See anything missing? The repro is on the left, needless to say I sent it back.

Yeah no holes, I didn't think I should have to drill my own holes. I know I heard or read somewhere where somebody said, "how could they restore the whole car and leave those nasty pedals!".  Guess I am playing into that, me pedal is not that bad.

Just went to the mailbox in my mask and gloves to pickup a package, just kidding but it's just weird going outside, lol.

Got one NOS white door pull strap, came in the original packaging and all, just has a little rust on the ends that i will sand off and then maybe apply some RPM to the ends. Just need another strap and some of the mounting clips (mounting clips are on their way).

The two black ones I was going to spray with white SEM paint but then changed my mind.

The bottom two black ones is what I used to use when I drove the car. They are Canadian Tire (Canadian parts store) cheapies found in the Help section, but did a good job.

Picking and choosing what I will go with that's original to the car.

Nice, but take that community mail box seriously Alan. I spray the door with Lysol and then the packages/mail in it with lysol and then give it a bit before I scoop it out into a cardboard tray to set in the truck. I spray it all again at home and leave it in the shop for a bit, flip everything and spray again before I actually touch or open it. Numerous postal workers testing postive...

Fully agree Wayne, my wife is keeping me on track. Was wearing gloves and I did take a Lysol wipe with me and wiped down the box and the box the strap came in.

She just came back from Costco, seems like they got things under control and orderly. The cashier thank my wife as not being one of those people that are there every day buying 5 or 6 items.

Actually I am naturally a shallow breather so...

Looks like my engine is ready to go.

Went with a 360 stroked out to a 408

The replacement 360 for my 318 arrived yesterday, just making a list of the parts I need to add on to it.

Probably give a few more coats of orange to the engine, not sure if I should paint the water pump or not.

 I started coating my engine bay aluminum with T-9 Boeshield. It stopped the metal getting fuzzy over time.

Power Steering Pump

So this is my original Saginaw pump, when I had my 318 on the engine stand I managed to tip the engine over, the brunt of the fall was on the passengers side valve cover and the power steering pump pulley. The pulley is all warped and not usable.

I found an NOS pulley (29511989) on eBay to replace the damaged one.

Also ordered a new Power Steering Pressure hose & Power Steering Return hose from E-Booger ;), also on eBay.

Used some paint stripper and Evaporust on the brackets and mounting bolts; will paint them black. Will also re-paint the pump housing as well.

Here is the pressure hose, the replacement I was told will fit but I think I will try and find an original.

The Power Steering Return Hose, 11/32 inside diameter. 14" length, trim to fit, this is long and came with 2 correct OEM USA-mfg. red constant-tension clamps.

Dynamat & Noico

Decided to spend some time on the interior. I used both Dynamat and this Noico product, plus a roller.

Started at the front; spent too much time researching how other people did it, wasn't much help so I just dove in.

May not look pretty but got the job done and will be covered by carpet.

Used the Noico on the ceiling of the car, my car does get kind of tinnie (so) up top so thgis should help.

Was going to throw out the REM insulation I got because it just didn't seem worth using.

In the end just decided to use it and glue it to the Noico, the REM stuff came in two pieces, neither fit nicely into the three/four areas so I just took some scissors and cut it up and made it fit.

As usual used the 3M 90 High Strength glue; works wonders.

I found the dynamat on the floor transformed the noise level on my car. Good job.

Seems most noise in mine comes from the trunk area. :yesnod:

Thanks darbgnik, won't even be upset if I hear any noises when I finally get it on the road.

Did you ever consider using lizard skin vs dynamat for the floor?

Hey CFMopar, the thought did cross my mind as I had seen a member here (Shakey) I think it was use it and a member on road Runner Nest.

For cost effectiveness and less mess (maybe it's not?) and lack of space I have I thought that Dynamat would be better for me.

Only negative I've heard on Dynamat is that it can trap moisture under it when used on the floor. But that might have been a  lizard skin promo.

Yeah I guess it could. But how often is it going to get moisture in it? I think the weight savings is nice also and lizard skin is also just easier to apply I'd think.
