Nope.....notice its an R/T car and the rear window plug isnt there
MaMopar threw that car together REAL quick for a press photo shot to introduce the new Charger Daytona... Obviously, noone was real particular about the "details" as we are today.. lol
Troy
the hidden headlights were taped on too... ???
no scoops, incomplete stripe, and WTF are those other cars?.. :o
Did you find that online or is it a magazine you own?

He said there was none... For some reason I don't believe him... He though showing me those pix would scare me off from buying, but NOPE... I kept at him, then he finally said he didn't own it, and owner was hard to get ahold of, and didn't want to sell...
Careful there Charger Aficionado, I'm on here too. There is no vin tags on it at all, someone swiped them off the car years ago. The car is not worth what everyone keeps offering. This guy will not sell the whole car, not to mention it is badly twisted. Come on up here I will show it to you and you will walk away from it. Trust me I have been on this guy for months about it and finally he said you can take one thing off of it that you want and that is it. So I took the rear window chrome, it was the only thing that was salvagable. Apparently the guy bought 15 years ago in a junk yard and it had been sitting in the junk yard for at least 5 years or more. Sorry you don't believe me but it is the truth.

Every aero car is worth saving. no matter how bad it is someone will want it. that person is Fifthforcon, second in line would be me. ;D
LOVE the stripe on that cover
Hey I'd take another 500 if someone finds one that is for sale that I could afford.
i would love to own a 500 put me on that list. in any condition. Rene
As far as that being the first Daytona, I say yes it is the first Daytona. First car they put a wing and a nose cone on for press release photo's. The other early photo car was F5 green and it was also missing the fender scoops.
The other thing about that car is that the nose and vallance were Glass. That pic motivated me to make my white and red Daytona. I will never do a white one again.

Dane, why won't you ever do a white car again? Is there something I should know? One of my options was maybe to do a white car with a red stripe. Others colors I'm leaning towards doing also, but white was one of the options.
I had my White and red one for one year and found out that it was the most boaring dull color for a wing car. It just seemed to blend in to everything. I felt I was driving a Grandma's Daytona, like all I needed was some hubcaps, white walls and a walker in the back seat. That is why I am not all that hip on black either, it is a ghost color, you seem to look past it. Although my black & Gold one was one of my fondest Daytona's. If you go black you need to have chrome to highlight your fenderwells and big chrome/shiny wheels.

I would never walk away from it. I need alot of sheetmetal for my car. I could use alot of what is there. How or WHY would ANYONE turn-down CASH for something they think is worthless? I need the rear window all the way back to the end of the car (including trunk gutters, and decklid). I will pay you whatever he asks.
NOW, I notice that the auction for the rear window trim is gone. I really can't stand this. I have HAD to ask some people if they would end early since I need parts so bad. Most eBayers seem OFFENDED if you ask, like it has impugned their integrity or something. So, now I don't bother, and TRUST that the auctions will take their course... My mistake. I guess you got a good offer huh? I was prepared to pay 1k for that stuff or more (depending on max bid). Hope you got at least that.

I don't think you understand, that is not surface rust or paint on that car all the metal on it is paper thin. If you lean on it you will go through it. I have restored a few cars and if it was worth saving trust me I would have pushed even harder than I have to get the car. There is barely anything left of the trunklid, quarter panels and tail panel. Sorry your mad but, I can't help it that this guy will not sell the car.

No you can't because someone cut it out. I am only guessing that there is a retaged 500 out there somewhere. Also the radiator support was cut out also.

The other Charger that has the stripe very forward on the quarters is the Super Charger that that is currently owned by Steve Juliano. That car was transformed from its first showcar trim in 68,to the picture shown which was 69,to its current formation as a 70 Daytona nosed, topless Charger.
I've never seen any pictures of the 68 version.
I saw some pictures of the 68 version on Moparts a while back.It was white, with 5 slot mags, the grille was stock 68 R/T,and the tailpanel was stock 68,but was all white, with no blackout on it,it also had sidepipes.the windshield was cut low,and it had the T bird type cover over the backseat area.
I'll have to look for that. I've always liked that car and haven't been able to go see it any of the times Juliano had it on display. Someday maybe.
do a google image search of 1968 charger's at car shows....
you'll find alot of interesting things some of which you never intended like this for example...

:o
here are some pics of the topless 68 charger r/t-MATT
p.s it only wore slotmags when it was transformed into the supercharger
Now that you post those, I have seen that first pic before. None of the others though, thanks a bunch. Does anyone know what those are in the door scallops?
i was wondering the same thing those little rectangles in the door vents were i think this would be a cool car to recreate eh? if i can find a 68 shell without engine or tranny and it was only a 318 car i think i just might recreate this monster except some ow make the roof be able to put back on with clips like the xXx 67 gto-MATT
Quotecool car to recreate eh?
:iagree:
it would be cheap to find a 68 charger with a bad roof. and cut it off. Rene
That white car was a quick put together car .For the automotive press .It had tape outlines for headlight doors .The supercharger was a concept design by stylist .Engel with a 68 charger.Known as the Engel charger .This car has been owned by several.Starting with Tilt on moparts user on this board .Followed by Leo Gephart then Raffi Manasian .Then a good friend and a great guy and collector Steve J got it from Raffi M.later the car recieved nose and tail light treatment .And has 70 seats that sit up higher. But the car still has 68 dash and serial number
Didn't Dave Farro of Totally Auto restoration own the 68 SuperCharger at one time as well? Or was it just at his shop for some work?
.I know Dave F well.Dave Ferro was doing some repairs for Raffi Manisan who owned the car at that time .Raffi got the car at a estate sale.Dave went over and drove the car but recommended not repainting .Left the body and paint how it was.I got a chance to see this car up close.
http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=42989&an=0&page=2#42989
.Here you will find the engel charger pictures as well as the supercharger the same car as it changed
What ever happened to ONE BAD SUPERBIRD anyway?.. :P
His sentence of exile from Moparts was lifted and he returned to his regular site. I spoke to him briefly at the Nats and he was aware of this Charger forum but hadn't gotten around to checking it out yet at that time.
I see, I had thought that Dave had the car, but wast aware it wasn't his at the time, but somebodies he was working on it for.
As far as OneBadSuperbird, he still post regularly on Moparts as well as other boards. John is a great guy.
What about the first Daytona off the line??
Any idea of its whereabouts?
I hear ALOT from car guys around here that a local doctor bought NEW his hemi orange Daytona 440 w/ auto trans I believe. I hear he still has it today sitting in storage and have NEVER actually seen this car.
This infamous doctor's name is Dr. Cheeseborough? and I'm told by everyone its either the 1st one off the line or the 1st Canadian car.
Can anyone clear this one up?
Ah Dr. Cheeseboroughs Daytona. It is the first Daytona on the shipment list. It wasn't the first Daytona made, as there was one built in February, but his was the first one shipped out to an owner. It is also the first Canandian Daytona as well.
AH yes thank you.
Funny how this info is learned and known about in the MOPAR/Charger community around the world when this car/guy is from my neck of the woods, very cool.
Someday I hope to see this car and shoot some pics of it!
I think that there are quite a few people who would like to see that car. I had heard that it has been painted a few times over the years though.
canadian daytona eh? well i hear that in vancouver my city there is an old chinese guy who ordered one of the few black 69 daytonas made and sure enough i chekced the dmv for a registration on a 1969 black charger daytona here and there it was, now all i have to do is go find it wouldnt mind seeing that 1st car tho pretty sweet would prefer a stock black 4-spd one tho-MATT
Mopar sent quite a few of the special ones up here. We like to go fast too.
Going by the daytona shipmemt list the first daytona went to Canada.Followed by the first US daytona on the list went to Shope motors in VA .But then there is this other daytona that has a very low serial number like 287***.That Im curious about.
The Daytona with the 287 start of the VIN is the one that Larry Bell used to own, that is currently for sale for $395K I believe.
